That's amazing, I would not have expected that this sort of video capability was possible. I wonder what the data rate was to send that video back? Was it either an exponential increase in transfer speeds, or just really amazing compression?
Steve AdamsSaatler önce
The video wasn’t real-time. The rover recorded the various EDL videos and then downloaded them a day or two after the landing. JPL then merged these videos with the Mission Control commentators to make this video. The rover sends/receives most of its data to/from orbiters around Mars. These orbiters then relay the data to Earth where it is received by the Deep Space Network (DSN). The data rates vary, somewhere between a few hundred kilobits per second, up to 1-2 megabits per second.

I'm honestly not sure if you're right or wrong. What is troubling to me is to wonder - would anyone in that control room know if it was a simulation or real themselves?

Why are ALL videos newer than this one have Comments disabled? Is NASA no longer open for dialog? :(

I'm uncertain if interplanetary exploration would yield any greater results than manned space stations would to promote a living environment. Exploration is great to research or interplanetary existences, history, life potential, but Mars seemingly habitation is at least a generation away. Interplanetary exploration is like learning to run before walking, but hey, it's still exciting to see.

This is false there is no air on Mars to parasuit working
Mike P4 saatler önce
Only false thing is your claim. Air is a mixture of gases. Mars atmosphere is thin but it also contains gases that makes it possible to use parachute.
Steve Adams4 saatler önce
You are wrong. Mars has an atmosphere that is about 1% of Earth’s. Substantial enough for a parachute to bleed off some velocity, but not enough to land safely. That is why the sky crane is needed.

If here on Earth, with everything we have, it's hard to be happy, imagine in Mars, the planet Desert! Is this scientific research, or are you planning to flee Earth? What are you afraid of? ( The Earth is the Titanic, do you occupy the few boats that remain? )
Atlantis4 saatler önce
It's for scientific research and exploration. As for Earth, it's not hard to be happy (well for me anyway).
