Excellent video - very clear explanation and you kept it moving along so it stayed interesting. I knew a little bit about this topic before I watched this and it helped me confirm that I indeed was solid in what I had learned but now I feel like I learned a lot more and I am going to watch the part 2 video right now.

Exchange the "LOUDNESS" of this video with "SWEETNESS" and, you'll get slimmer and with less pain in your body.

Another great video, thanks! But, I think the back track is too loud. Not intended as a pun. But I have some difficulties hearing your voice from time to time. Of course, I'm at a busy restaurant and I'm listening thru Airpods. But anyways, just thought I'd share this subjective experience from my side.

I can't hear some of your examples because of the sidechain comp on your voiceovers. You should allow more space in future videos so I can hear in the tracks what you're talking about!

This is also what destroys music. I love drums. But when you increase overall loudness, the drums suffer because they need so much headroom to be clear and interesting.

I'm pretty sure streaming services mesure integrated loudness and brings it to something like -12 LUFS. So the point is, when you want a "perceived loud master" to make a loud drop (-4 LUFS short term) and a quiet break and gradually quiet build up. So when streaming services calculate the integrated loudness of your track and brings it (mostly) down to -12 LUFS, you have your drops louder than a track with a stronger integrated loudness, so the perceived loudness is higher.

Ive found that when I upload & record onto Rapsody, I can run it slightly into the red & dont hear any clipping or distortion on playback. .... So now I wonder if I can also run intpo my tascam and have the record level ever so slightly peaking into the red.,, by gaining 10% more signal on the tascam & 10% more uploaded onto Rapsody, maybe I will have a punchier fuller sounding recording. Your video sparked this idea, gonna try it

The problem is very simple to tackle, the government should be advised to make a law against squashing mixes more than a certain threshold. Any mixes loudness found to be in breach of this rule will be declared illegal and taken down.

There are some tricks however to achieve (stupidly) high loudness with preserved dynamic range WITHOUT a limiter-crush (which diminishes the kickdrum and snare...).

The so called “sweet spot” of an Amplifier with respect to minimising distortion (S/N ratio etc) may not and usually does not match the sweet spots of the other electronic components in your sound system - especially the speakers. There are individual optimal settings for each component as well as an overall sweet spot of your sound system, which depends on how the components interact as well as how the resultant sound behaves in the listening space. Then of course we have a “sweet spot” associated with the listener which is entirely subjective - ie based on personal bias and taste.

I love how mediocre recording engineers repeat, "If it's too loud, then you're too old." Especially since most that say this are 'old'. Though if I had a boss and clients that repeatedly asked for more loudness I might act the same way. It's a lot easier to talk down to strangers on the internet than it is to convince your boss that they're in idiot, that's for sure. I have to say, the fact that the evidence of loudness being better begins with how it sounds to a teenage boy seems incredibly appropriate.

Notice for me: You have to care about a good loudness of your mix, otherwise it could become to silent in Radio/Streaming/whatsoever. But, however, i cannot rescue a bad mix with a good loudness. If it is crap bevore, it'll stay crap after.
