Before I heard of Jordan Peterson I did not even realize that in these new times we were missing a public figure who we can look up to, someone who inspires us, teaches and gives us a good example. For me, and millions of others, JP feels like the father figure

"For me, and millions of others, JP feels like the father figure I finally found." And that's the problem right there. He targets his myopic and one-dimensional platitudes towards your kind. The lost, the father-less, the ones who (wrongly) believe everything will change overnight in their lives if they just "think right". "The father figure I finally found." And that is telling. For only lost people listen to him and are "inspired".

In addition to calling him myopic and one dimensional, can you use reason to disprove any of his claims?

@Coline Collard I'm sorry I don't get your point, happy for you that you are not lost, either its true or you are in total denial. Some of us are struggling to keep our senses. Besides; what's the issue with feeling lost in this modern fast crazy society? It only shows how sick it is. If anyone is helping me on my life path for the good I can only respect and cheer this person,

@Deniz feneri Not only that, but Dr. Peterson did that in the mist of extreme personal turmoil and bad social pressure. Extra props for coming out of that better viewed than before.

What a shame that some colleges are prohibiting their students from hearing Jordan Peterson's very important lessons for life. What a great loss. What i've noticed in my "working class life" is that many of the younger people have found him and that his lectures are available online (youtube). We need more of this man and those like him.

They want them to be soft and pliable. They don’t want them to face their dragons. Isn’t it sad. I’m a 50 year old woman and I have an entire playlist I go to often when I need a dad. He just makes so much sense and awakens my soul.

Never have I been so moved than when I listen to Jordan Peterson. His humility and pure concern for us as humans, as individuals in need, calls to my soul. Each day, to be just a little bit better, a little kinder, a little more honest, to listen with real interest, all of this and so much more. To be just a little more, than I was yesterday.

Honestly, I don't follow him like a cultist but this man has definitely helped me become a better person today. I lost my job during the covid-19 outbreak but I took what he said to heart and ignored the crisis and worked hard. during a job test I cried in the middle of the night because I thought I would never get to the cut off but It was really ingrained into me that we have the power to change our lives, it is up to us. So, I stood up! Sat down straight, Wiped my tears and took control. I made it! I got the job, built my very first computer, got tons of freelance work and retained my relationship with my family, girlfriend and peers. There are more fighting to be done but it gives me courage to have that control. His lessons change me a better man, father, lover and son. Thank you.

I can add another piece to that, "Resentful people only want to tear down and have no clue what, if anything, should replace that which they want destroyed." Technically this is why you should not trust them.
Blake Abernathy
Blake Abernathy 4 yıl önce
@Grimm Liberty I don't think that's generally true. People usually know what they want installed as a replacement, that replacement is just generally not better. Demanding a restructuring of a system that is a product of decades of wisdom and thoughtful adjustment demands a solid foundation; one resentful people tend to lack.

I don't know. I can't imagine the impact of that idea, along with his paean to humility, if they were to be applied by conservatives to American politics presently. Unthinkable. It is a race between embittered resentment or all-knowing pride being the more honored. Quite like the far Left.

I have just begun to listen to Dr. Peterson, after being aware of his work since he was an obscure professor at the University of Toronto, but assuming for years that he didn’t have anything to teach me. A few hundred hours of listening later, and the inner light in my heart, that was a smoldering bed of coals, is now a leaping flame. I’m a better mother, a better university student, a better writer and novelist, and a better follower of Christ because of Dr. Peterson. What I want to do right now is to shake his hand and look in his eyes and tell him what he’s meant to me. And this isn’t fangirl stuff. I’ve had plenty of fangirling in my day and this isn’t it. This is, here is a good person whom I can look up to and esteem very highly in love.

I love the book, I ready it twice and really engaged me in a lot of changes. It made me realize I was mentally ill and thus look for medical treatment. I discovered to be bipolar, and I am getting better everyday. If I haven't read it, I would probably be dead by now! Instead, I am accepting my condition and learning to live with it day after day. I am here to recover the core concepts of the book.

Hah, I see my comment still, one year ago. Here I am watching the whole thing again. This is absolutely one of my favorite lectures from Jordan. I still haven't bought the book, but I will, soon. About two years ago my mom passed away,. And as many people know is that it's a very difficult time, she was only 56 years old. I got very bad anxiety and panic attacks from all the stress and emotions thinking of "What is the meaning of life" or "I have lost my mom, the person in this whole world that regardless of what I do in life, she will always love me. What am I even supposed to do now?" types of questions, I also started to question if it even really was panic attacks, maybe my heart is just failing me, scared as you can be. However, about one and a half years ago I decided that I wanted to become something, I don't want to work at a place to do something for the rest of my life that I dislike. But before I could apply for a course (in IT) I needed to study up a few subjects in order to qualify, or have enough points to even make it to the list of applicants. I did that for six months, really working my hardest, and for my panic attacks and anxiety I started running and now also taking cold showers for the bast 2-3 months, it has helped a lot with that. After those six months I applied to the course, there was about 200 or something applicants, they only had 35 spots open, so I had to do a test that involved questions about the subjects that the course taught you. So I spent about one month or so just preparing for that test, writing down everything I could find online about it on a paper. I recorded myself all 20-30 pages on my phone and every time I went out on a walk, which I did almost every day walking 10 miles and just listening on my probably 2-3 hour recordings, and also when I worked, when I could. I did the test and I patiently waited to see if I got in or not, 2-3 weeks of nothing and let me tell you the anxiety I had my just waiting, what if I don't get in? My future, or the live I want to live would be set back hugely, I couldn't imagine having to work with what I was working for another year. If I don't get in this time, will I even get in next year? My motivation is now. Then the email came, I got in, I got super happy and felt such a big burden lift off my shoulders. Here I am now been studying to become a "Cloud and IT- Infrastructure Engineer", I have about a little more than a year left and so far I have aced everything on the course and I am so proud of myself. I cried writing the part about my mom, but there is a difference between my crying when she passed and crying now. I still cry thinking about my mother sometimes, but the difference between then and now is that now I know that I am okay and I will be okay. I love Jordan Peterson and he has so many great advice. So whatever you are going through, just know that it will be okay, you will be okay. Work on yourself.

I really wish I had found someone like Peterson when it might have helped me. Almost every negative life event a human could undergo I have. Not all, but most. Abandoned by my moms at 7, then raised by violent drunks who would beat me until I pissed myself when angered. Unless they were feeling lazy then they would throw glass ashtrays or firewood at me. When social services showed up I hid under the house because reasons. Sexually assaulted by some one 7 years older than me when I was still a virgin which I was punished for by being kicked out of my home while still a minor. I didn't tell anyone I was convinced I must have done something to bring it on. Buried my 4 month old daughter from apparently (this is the end of the innocence) SIDS. Then the issues with alcohol, and pills. Couldn't maintain longterm employment was kicked out of college for having cannabis in my off campus apartment. Couldn't maintain relationships because I only partnered with toxic people due to self esteem issues. Never really got it right and now I'm in my fifties so I can't help myself there's nothing worth helping. The only thing I have left to look forward to is death and I'll probably fuck that up too somehow. If anyone bothered to read my pity party I want you to listen. Your life is worth saving. Don't do what I did. You are worth it. I don't care what your circumstances are. You deserve better and you can have it. DON'T give up on yourself and compound failure with self pity. Be the light you were born to be one small step at a time. And listen to Peterson he's a gifted communicator and a wise man who is not some right-wing ideologue. He is trying to help. And before you throw it all away like I have let him show you the way out of darkness. Please don't fuck it all up. There's no point in it.

thank you for this, i needed to read this message at this time. please follow your own advice for those suffering from circumstances like yourself! you are worth saving, and being 50 is not the end. You deserve to be loved, you are worthy, and you did nothing wrong to suffer the way you have, and im sorry horrendous people made you feel this way. as children we cant help but think its us, when its their own suffering internally, and projecting it on you because of the light and good inside of you. as peterson says, the world is a dimmer place for you not bringing your light in to this world. let this be the beginning of you living a life that brings this light out in you, and dont ever settle for being around another person who doesnt see the good in you and help bring this light out of you. I am working on not punishing myself, and not being in toxic relationships. but being 50 is not the end of your life...let the pain youve been through show the empathy and good in you because you know what its like to be in pain and because of that you dont want others to feel the way you have. it makes us stronger and kinder. dont let mistakes youve made while being lost and suffering dictate how you treat yourself for the rest of your life.

Let’s say you change your mind about your future and believe you can be the type of person you wished those you resent had been. Then you take small steps each day to make peace with your past - you’ve already started down that path by encouraging others to not waste their lives. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to turn all of your pain into fuel for change and as that change takes root it becomes your duty to help others move beyond the limits they’ve set for themselves. Small moves…

Sandy, I can relate to your story. I also am a victim of sexual abuse. I battled drug addiction and self-destructive behavior for most of my life. I was in relationships that were abusive and demeaning. Even though my life is much different now, I know I will always be at war with my personal demons. No amount of therapy can wipe away the memories of being abused. I know from experience that is impossible. It is always with you. It affected every part of my well-being. I struggle with anxiety, insomnia, and PTSD. On some days I feel worthless and damaged, but I know it is my stinkin' thinkin' trying to get the best of me. I do not trust strangers or most people I know. (That's from being physically abused, robbed, and stabbed by those I thought were friends.) I believed it was my fault that I was molested. What saved me was when my therapist told me I was the child. My abuser was the adult. After many years of therapy, only she ever told me that. It made a world of difference. My life was far from perfect, and I did some things of which I am not proud. In my defense, I was trying to survive the hand that life dealt me. I have forgiven myself for those past mistakes. It took 52 years. I just turned 55 this past June. Your past will always be a part of you. No one can change that. Please do not give it the power to define you and your future. You've made it this far. The road is not easy, but only you have the right to claim what you rightfully deserve. Do not allow anyone to take that away from you. May God help you along your journey. I wish you all the best today and for always. Your life is not a mistake. You are unique and here for a reason. Do not give up on yourself. You are worth it! Believe me, Sandy. You are totally worth it. Your words reminded me how fortunate I am to be alive. Thank you. (August 6, 2022)

I almost dropped a tear, you're so courageous and conscientious if after all of that tragedy and misery you've gone through you are still so much thoughtful and generous. Have you ever consider to write a book? I think you should definetly write one. 50's is not late to start, it never is. You can impact lives with your story, and it doesn't even need to be a story with a happy ending. Happy ending may come after publishing of your book, 'cause it's like Peterson answered in the end, that he basically wrote this book to himself too. If you ever to remember this video after you wrote your book, text me in this comment section i would absolutely read it

Mark Hi Mark! Being an old-fashioned Christian I've found "The Naked Bible Podcast" by Dr. Michael S. Heiser very helpful. He's nondenominational like me. Thus 'naked Bible'. No denominational filter between him and the Bible. And ... listening to Jordan I've come to think that maybe God has ALSO put some psychology into the Bible. It's such a rich book. So maybe. I don't know, but am thinking about it. And ... I think Jordan is on the brink of becoming a Christian.

In one speech he mentions that we must set goals and make sacrifices and just find a place to get started, even if you have to start in small pieces that you can handle. All that matters is that you start it, and the rest of the pieces will start falling into place. This process builds new parts of you and ofc it builds more and more neural networks, which then allows you to see more and understand more, unlocking more of yourself and your brain, and your over-all character and perception of life. You build up a hierarchy of information all while unlocking hidden information within yourself, that's been coded in our DNA over thousands and thousands of years of our existence. All that information our fathers and their fathers have collected over time, is up to us to keep it going or else lose it all. That's why we need people like JP because he's a mentor to many that are now growing up in a society where those strong male role models are rare and almost a dead breed. That's something we can't let happen and now that I'm 30 and realizing what he's teaching, one of my top goals will to be just as articulated as he is and better, in order to carry everything he's teaching to future generations or else the chain breaks and we will likely be screwed as a species

17 year old here: (I‘m assuming some things here and they may or may not be right, but I just want to make sure) Don‘t get too cocky about you being „special“ because a lot of other 17 year olds are wasting their time away with expedient goals. As Jordan Peterson said: Don‘t compare yourself with other people, especially with people that are doing worse than you. This can lead to a sense of illusionary accomplishment, which is not constructive in propelling you forward. If you want to compare yourself to someone (as a starting point or a personification of an ideal you strive towards), then make sure it‘s someone who has accomplished more than you. I fail at this often too and I think a healthy amount of acknowledging the fact that you may actually be in the small percent of soon-to-be successful people is OK, but don‘t let it go overboard and stop bettering yourself everyday.

I agree. Sometimes the more someone experiences, the more jaded they become. It takes patience and wisdom to be open to giving and receiving love, in a world that often feels cold. We're all dependent on each other and when we close ourselves off to the world because we assume others don't care, we die a little bit inside... I feel like we're collectively becoming more aware of our emotions and it's wonderful to see and be a part of. Bitterness will destroy the soul. We must be kind to one another and have empathy if we're going to survive and prosper

He tells me exactly what my parents taught me. Every single rule. They were WWII parents. First child born 1941. August. Depression teenagers. Also, valedictorian and salutatorian if their same class. Played Romeo and Juliet opposite each other. Their Dec 7th was in a movie theater, a month ahead of their wedding. They celebrated 50 years of marriage, a month before he died. It was his goal. And they went out in style. I was a trailer, born in 1957. But everything Jordan is talking about is how I was raised from my first breath. Every single thing. So, how did I work out? Married at 21. Married twenty four years to a woman who I loved, dead at 43. One son. Then married her best friend. 20 years. I love her too, but not the same. Just different. She is by far the better woman. My first was, by far, the better wife. But life goes on, and how many men can say they were married to two opposite women, yet never felt he made a bad choice? 44 years. Eat your heart out, guys. I would that each of you ever knew such a love for even a year. Why? My parents. God bless them. Even when dead, they had created a good person. I thank them daily.

I wished I could meet u in person. Aftering watching you describe your book, I just felt a sense of connection with u , myself and this world. I enjoyed every minute of u talking about life. Alot of it I already in countered with but u make so much sense of everything u spoke on. U are truly gifted with the ability to put in to words and describe what it is that it takes to be a good productive person in this life. I loved it and I will try to find ur book and I will tell as many people about u as I can and who will listen. During ur speech u said some things that I really needed to hear and it made me realize that all the abuse that I have went in my life did not and will not defy me. And I am a good person because i do try to be a good person to everyone I meet. And u showed me that . After so much criticism and mental abuse from a boyfriend I started to think he maybe right but I always knew it was him that needed counseling because he has underlying issues that has never even been addressed. But I can't get him to listen to me about anything cause he acts like he knows everything and I know nothing because we are same age. I enjoy learning and it fills my soul to have a meaningful conversation with someone who like I said listens. But I just wanted to thank u so much for just being you. You are a great speaker and very wise person .

Great lecture, my first exposure to this brilliant thought provoking man. I look forward to more of his thoughts.

Listening to Jordan Peterson has helped me become a better man over the past 7 years. It's hard not to get emotional listening to this.
