This exactly happened to the family of my paternal grandfather in Russia, they were considered kulaks because the man of the family didn’t drink and instead worked hard on the land he owned and even hired a few people from his village to help. As far as the Dutch farmers concerns, the problem is NOT nitrogyn. They need their land to build. Farmers being visited by Gov. with buy-out proposels have counter proposed to dump their live stock and reform to growing patatoes or other vegetables. The answer from Gov is NO. We need your land. In some villages where farmers took the bait, plans for building refugee camps on that lans have already been approved and will start soon. So, 'we need you to stop farming for the environment and when you do we will use your land to build houses'. In other words building houses is good for the environment? What?. Of course the problem is not nitrogen. In fact, if anything, the problem is a lack of nitrogen. The only natural way to sequester nitrogen back into the soil is with livestock (mostly large ruminants). Get them back out on pasture in large numbers, and work them into intensive, regenerative (I don’t use that word lightly) rotations. But of course, you are 100% correct. “They” are just using “environmental buzz” to justify their real plan, which you outlined precisely.

I too immediately noticed at the beginning of the lockdowns how the mechanics of neighbor against neighbor, snitching and all was the same as in totalitarian regimes. The consequences were much much smaller, but the process the same, which is real scary. Like if it were a test drive. I could just imagine rewarding the snitchers with a % of the fines and voila, we are in a Police State. Police that BTW complied instantly and nearly totally. Individual policemen did not, but overall, wow, that is scary too.
