A total iconic masterpiece in music history. This song best describes what ABBA was going through as a group at this time and tells the whole story with just the beat. So sad considering this was their last song ever recorded together. It gives me chills knowing that Agnetha refused to sing this song unless the lights were dimmed in the studio and the air was just right. She even had a certain distance from the microphone during the recording. The fact she left the studio right after her last vocal in this song, not saying a word to anybody, and valuing to never go on stage again is haunting. Just makes this song ever so much more meaningful, beautiful, and powerful with how much heartbreak and talent that was involved in its creation. You can hear her heart through her voice. There is no music that comes close to ABBA. They are one of a kind, never to be duplicated again. Everything they did together was a success. And it still holds true today. I hope they never forget what they did for our industry and how much we love them. We miss you ABBA!

Their final song, a true piece of art. More than music, a statement. The proof that maybe ABBA was at the end of the road but not because they are burned out, no Sir, this was their best recording, the first time i heard it i burst into tears, it mirrors life itself with minimal effects. Sometimes i asked myself how many more great songs they could have gifted the world with more time...i like the new ones too, but the lost years are...well, lost.

This song described my life 32 years ago, working two jobs as an immigrant who came to the US with nothing, I was working routinely without aim, lived the single life yet still without aim, 5 years later I saw her smiley eyes in a night that changed my life. The very next morning I stood at the window and listened to this beautiful song for the thousand times yet I finally felt what it meant, I listened to my life in a song and I discovered that I am in love with that beautiful girl I saw the night before, fast forward almost 28 years that girl still my wife and I still feel the same feeling that I felt the morning after I saw her the first time. ABBA has impacted my life in the most beautiful way.

I think that, not only is it Abba's best song, it may well be one of the best songs ever written.

This is the best song Abba ever made. Truly amazing. Makes you wonder if they’d carried on a little longer. This song is a masterpiece.

Эта песня песня, прежде всего - об атомизации современного западного общества, об одиночестве обычного человека во вроде как большом и перенаселённом городе.

People don't realise it but this is truly one of the greatest masterpieces in modern pop music. No chorus, a double-beat that comes at intervals that feel right but you cannot put your finger on, an extremely mundane story that actually is so powerful from what it doesn't say. The feeling of sadness in the song, a contradiction given the implication it is about finding a new lover. There is so much it leaves you thinking about - just wonderful!

You know this is the first time I am hearing people interpret this song as a positive. I have always thought that her life became worse after the guy came, and she was singing about the last time she was happy, or at least not sad.

A masterpiece. My absolute favourite song. Have played it a million times. Agnetha sings and performs perfectly.

This song has always intrigued me. The arrangement is absolutely brilliant. Bjorn and Benny were definitely, in my opinion, musical geniuses. The plaintive, haunting melody line is juxtaposed against a driving rhythm in the base, a brilliant balance. The recurring dove like accompaniment adds to the sense of the approaching climax. Agnetha's voice is lilting, haunting and almost intrusive as she relates her story. The accompaniment is almost jaunty as if it's trying to break the mood of the melody. Even the video is clever. The story first played out as a narrative and then switches to the group, each in his or her own silent world with taut faces, mute and like statues, no smiles, facing in a different directions, except for the sharp turn of Benny to look at her as she moves on stage. For me, it's one of my top 5 ABBA songs. This was (pop) music at its best. You live the song as you listen to it

An incredible song showcasing their musical talents and sung by the most achingly beautiful woman I have ever laid my eyes on. Stunning all round....
