McLaren produces high-performance custom-designed cars using the technologies it has developed for Formula 1.
It is possible to see the traces of Formula 1 technology in the McLaren 765LT Spider model, which was introduced recently. The McLaren 765LT Spider is the most powerful convertible McLaren has ever produced. The car's UK price starts at £310,500 and only 765 will be sold worldwide.
McLaren 765LT Spider uses a 765PS 4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 Engine and a 7-speed Reverse Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG) gearbox. The V8 engine with the code M840T placed longitudinally at the rear produces 765PS of power at 7500rpm and 800Nm of torque at 5500rpm.
The maximum speed of the McLaren 765LT Spider is 330km/h and it accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds, from 0 to 200km/h in 7.2 seconds, and from 0 to 300km/h in 19.3 seconds.
The McLaren 765LT Spider weighs 1388kg and is only 49kg heavier than the coupe version. Compared to the coupe version, the weight is due to the different opening hard top mechanism. The 765LT Spider has the best value in its class with a dry weight power ratio of 598PS per ton.
The McLaren 765LT Spider uses a carbon fiber monocoque chassis called the MonoCage II S. In order to reduce the weight of the car, carbon fiber body parts, thinner windshield and side windows, ultra light alloy wheels, titanium bolts, light suspension springs, full titanium exhaust system, nickel chromium pinion and gears are used.
The hood, front and rear fenders and exterior door panels are made of aluminum. The front splitter, front skirt, air intakes in the body, door blades, side skirts, front and rear bumpers, rear diffusers and active rear wing are made of carbon fiber.
McLaren 765LT Spider's sunroof is among the fastest and quietest roof mechanisms in the world. The carbon fiber hard top roof can be opened and closed in 11 seconds while driving up to 50km/h. Only 50dbA sound is heard when the roof is opened and closed. Thanks to the rear window that can be opened even when the roof is closed, the sound of the 4-outlet titanium exhaust system can be heard while driving.
The Proactive Control II suspension system with independent active shock absorbers and double aluminum wishbones used in the McLaren 765 LT Spider provides an excellent driving pleasure whether on the road or on the track. By choosing one of the Comfort, Sport or Track modes, the transmission and suspension settings can be changed. When it is necessary to pass speed bumps or parking ramps, the nose of the vehicle can be lifted using the driver-controlled vehicle lift system.
Pressing the Aero button to increase downforce automatically adjusts the angle of the rear wing depending on the car's speed. When using the McLaren 765LT Spider open-top, the wing angle is further increased, regaining the downforce lost due to airflow. When braking at high speeds, the rear wing opens fully and acts as an air brake.
McLaren 765 LT Spider has 19” wheels and 245/35 R19 tires at the front, 20” wheels and 305/30 R20 tires at the rear. The Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires used were specially designed to optimize the chassis dynamics of the 765LT and increase cornering speeds.
Apart from the standard black Mclaren calipers and 10-spoke platinum light-alloy wheels, calipers in different colors and ultra-light forged alloy wheels of different design can be selected as an option, as in the 765LT coupe version. Front 6-piston monobloc, rear 4-piston forged aluminum Mclaren calipers are used. Carbon ceramic front brake discs 390mm, rear brake discs 380mm in diameter. The braking distance of the McLaren 765LT Spider is 29.5m from 100km/h to 0km/h, and 108m from 200km/h to 0km/h.
