Dr. Roy Casagranda pushes back against the artificial East-West paradigm and show how the so-called "Dark Ages" was in fact a period with enormous intellectual achievement. After laying out the contradictions within the construct of the paradigm of western civilization, Dr. Casagranda examines how Muslim Persian, and Jewish, Christian, and Muslim Arab philosophers preserved and advanced Western civilization while Europe wallowed in the Medieval.

Dear professor, On behalf of all the Muslims in the world and truth-seeking people of the world, I warmly and infinitely thank you for sharing all this intellectual treasure with us. Hundreds of millions have been taught all types of lies about Muslims. Millions are now researching the truth and giving credit where it is due. Time will tell.

..l.... do you follow the Sunnah of the Prophet can you send me a pic of you cross dressing like your Prophet “Do not annoy me regarding ‘A’isha, for inspiration has not come to me when I was in any WOMAN’S GARMENT but ‘A’isha’s.” They then called Fatima, sent her to God’s messenger, and she spoke to him, but he replied, “Do you not like what I like, girlie?” She said, “Certainly,” so he said, “Then love this woman.” (Bukhari and Muslim.)

Apocrypha does not mean ‘wrong’ as the prof says ~ it means ‘hidden’. In general, he presents a somewhat cynical and highly debatable interpretation of the Christianization of Rome. I haven’t watched the rest. If he speaks of the Islamic Golden Age, the polymath scholars of Central Asia, and the reintroduction of ancient Greek thought, with great additions by Central Asian scholars, he’s quite right although to say “saved civilization” is a gross stretch

I am Muslim and I am from Uzbekistan. When Dr. mentioned the names of Al Khorezmi, Abu Ali Ibn Sina (they are from today's Uzbekistan) I felt so proud. Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Persia (Iran, Iraq) were the world centers of science, philosophy and knowledge in general. They had world known schools and medresses where all scholars around the world would gather and share their knowledge. It all started around 7th century, when we say it as the beginning of world renaissance, where as the renaissance in West started only around 13th century. So proud that our ancestors saved civilisation and brought back the science.

Happy to say I took a class taught by this guy at Austin Community College Rio Grande Campus in the Spring of 2017. An American Government-type class I want to say; can't remember exactly. Bottom line, he definitely stood and stands out as one of the most charismatic, engaging and memorable teachers I had throughout my entire educational career. I saw him as a hidden and underappreciated gem at the time. So cool to see him and his lectures reaching a much larger audience.

@Nikita Afrin Jesus was born in Mount Paran of Egypt never Nazareth of Palestine.Israelites were exiled from Egypt in 100 AD after being defeated by the Romans..! Also in the original scripts the referral to the All Mighty God is Creator in heaven not the Father in heaven.. However ,it is true that Jesus pbuh was the promised Messiah that children of Israel were praying for and Jesus never called himself God or son of God but always servant of God .
Shaolin Showdown
Shaolin Showdown 5 aylar önce
@Hatice Ergun one thing Muslims do not understand, (which I can see why, just wasn't taught or studdied doctrine properly) is that the Bible usese idiomatic expressions from Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek to mean completely different things when phrasing in our modern "Arabic, Or any other language" translation. And when the Bible uses phrases as, son of God, messenger, or messiah ect. These are titles understood by the old languages and the cultural people of the past. We modern people do not use the Bible's phrasing and titles the same way as the people of the past understood it. So we can't say "Jesus was not God" based on our modern Grammer and lack of cultural knowledge of the past. I argue that the Bible (based on its own interpretation, not our own modern way) does in fact suggest Jesus claims to be God, and is not contradictory when he accepts and/or calls himself titles that doesn't sound like God in our modern words.

@Hatice Ergun what I'm saying is that the Bible uses a different way of understanding it. Not the same as the Quran. Meaning? The bible holds firm in its own claims and some archeological discoveries. But mainly it's scripture is validated by itself. So don't say the bible says "X,Y,Z" when in fact it doesn't. It ultimately comes down to you Muslims to agree with the Bible's credibility and belive you stuff is true. That's it. When the conversation (which I'm not looking to get into this, but it is the core of the argument) should go to the validation of each book; the Quran or the ingil, on its own claims. Don't say what you interpret. Say what the Bible says about itself. 👈🏼 that's how we need to read everything. Your and mine included.

;M::::Allaah says “And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the ‘Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubt (about their periods), is three months; and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise” [al-Talaaq 65:4] In this verse we see that Allaah states that for those who do not menstruate - because they are young and have not yet reached the age of puberty - the ‘iddah in the case of divorce is three months. This clearly indicates that it is permissible for a young girl who has not started her periods to marry. Al-Tabari (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The interpretation of the verse “And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the ‘Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubt (about their periods), is three months; and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise”. He said: The same applies to the ‘idaah for girls who do not menstruate because they are too young, if their husbands divorce them after consummating the marriage with them. Tafseer al-Tabari, 14/142

Why should God let you into Heaven? Have you lied (even once in your entire life), looked with lust (sexual desire), dishonoured parents, stolen anything, had hatred towards someone, had premarital sex, adultery etc If you answered yes to any one of the above then you are a sinner like the rest of us. So, I ask you again, why should God let a sinner into Heaven? Sinners don’t go to heaven they go to hell, But we are blessed to have Jesus (God incarnate) die on the Cross and rise from the dead. If you Repent (forsake your sinful, unholy ways and live righteous instead) & Believe in Jesus as God, you will be seen as a Saint and welcomed into Heaven. John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved

@veganath please read the whole post, for all have sinnes and fallen short of the Glory of God but yes some sins are worse than others. Someone who simply lusts will go to hell but not suffer as much as someone who sleeps around. Someone who is full of hatred will go to hell but suffer as much as a murderer, but if you repent and believe in Jesus then Heaven is your future and it will be absolute bliss, get right with God today so i can shake your hand in heaven

@There is none Good but God John 3:16, Rev 3:16 *_"believe in Jesus then Heaven is your future and it will be absolute bliss"_* It isn't Heaven that I was asking about it was Hell. I have, just a few extracts from your Bible: Matthew 23:33 'You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell?' John 3:36 'Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.' Luke 12:5 'But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!' Matthew 13:50 'And throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' Just a few verses that explicitly & implicitly show your God creating us sick(expelled from the Garden of Eden. vegetarian) & commanding us to obey him or be thrown, sentenced, cast into hell... Keep in mind your God allows it to continue this in spite of the unimaginable suffer.... Question: *_Do you condone or condemn your God for ALLOWING any beautiful human to be incinerated(3rd degree burns to 100% of their body) causing unimaginably terrifying suffer for an INFINITE duration??_*

Historian of science *Victor Robinson* succinctly summarises the contrast between medieval Europe and Islamic Spain: “Europe was darkened at sunset, Cordova shone with public lamps; Europe was dirty, Cordova built a thousand baths; Europe was covered with vermin, Cordova changed its undergarments daily; Europe lay in mud, Cordova’s streets were paved; Europe’s palaces had smoke-holes in the ceiling, Cordova’s arabesques were exquisite; Europe’s nobility could not sign its name, Cordova’s children went to school; Europe’s monks could not read the baptismal service, Cordova’s teachers created a library of Alexandrian dimensions.” ( Robinson, V. (1936). The Story of Medicine. New York: Tudor Publishing Company, p. 164. ) Professor *Thomas Arnold* Said : “..…Muslim Spain had written one of the brightest pages in the history of Medieval Europe…bringing into birth a new poetry and a new culture, and it was from her that Christian scholars received what of Greek philosophy and science they had to stimulate their mental activity up to the time of the Renaissance.” (Arnold, T. (1896). The Preaching of Islam, p. 112.) Perhaps one of the most poignant summaries of the greatness of the civilisation that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ created, is in a speech by the former CEO of *Hewlett Packard,* Carly Fiorina: “There was once a civilization that was the greatest in the world. It was able to create a continental super-state that stretched from ocean to ocean, and from northern climes to tropics and deserts. Within its dominion lived hundreds of millions of people, of different creeds and ethnic origins. One of its languages became the universal language of much of the world, the bridge between the peoples of a hundred lands. Its armies were made up of people of many nationalities, and its military protection allowed a degree of peace and prosperity that had never been known. “And this civilization was driven more than anything, by invention. Its architects designed buildings that defied gravity. Its mathematicians created the algebra and algorithms that would enable the building of computers, and the creation of encryption. Its doctors examined the human body, and found new cures for disease. Its astronomers looked into the heavens, named the stars, and paved the way for space travel and exploration. Its writers created thousands of stories. Stories of courage, romance and magic. “When other nations were afraid of ideas, this civilization thrived on them, and kept them alive. When censors threatened to wipe out knowledge from past civilizations, this civilization kept the knowledge alive, and passed it on to others. While modern Western civilization shares many of these traits, the civilization I’m talking about was the Islamic world from the year 800 to 1600, which included the Ottoman Empire and the courts of Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo, and enlightened rulers like Suleiman the Magnificent. “Although we are often unaware of our indebtedness to this other civilization, its gifts are very much a part of our heritage. The technology industry would not exist without the contributions of Arab mathematicians. Leaders like Suleiman contributed to our notions of tolerance and civic leadership. And perhaps we can learn a lesson from his example: It was leadership based on meritocracy, not inheritance. It was leadership that harnessed the full capabilities of a very diverse population that included Christianity, Islamic, and Jewish traditions. This kind of enlightened leadership-leadership that nurtured culture, sustainability, diversity and courage-led to 800 years of invention and prosperity.” (Hewlett Packard. (2001). Carly Fiorina Speeches. Technology, Business and Our Way of Life: What’s Next.}

Oi Ulti
Oi Ulti 5 aylar önce
@MuGikuyu anti seminarian is hate of Jewish people, that can be any race if they are Jewish, Islamaphobia is the hate of the people who follow Islam. You can hate if you want to hate, but hate will not make you think straight. You can dislike, which is something separate from hate, but Islam doesn’t teach intolerance and violence, it teaches tolerance and accepting of others. It is why I converted to Islam. You should learn more about it and why jealousy, envy, and hate is bad for you. I can dislike you lied to me, but I wont hate you for it. I also became a Muslim because God loves me, and I love God. But the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said, if you love God, you have to love your fellow human beings first Alhumdulilah. Such a beautiful religion. Who can hate something so beautiful? Well, I know the answer to that, people who are jealous and envy it’s beauty, they choose to hate it and are racists. You know shaitan was kicked out of heaven cause he was racist. He thought he was better than Adam. Don’t be hateful, don’t be racist. In sha Allah, you’ll be a better person, ameen. Stop spreading the racist hate of Islamaphobia, it will destroy the world.

"If there is much misunderstanding in the West about the nature of Islam, there is also much ignorance about the debt our own culture and civilisation owe to the Islamic world. It is a failure which stems, I think, from the straitjacket of history which we have inherited. The medieval Islamic world, from Central Asia to the shores of the Atlantic, was a world where scholars and men of learning flourished. But because we have tended to see Islam as the enemy of the West, as an alien culture, society and system of belief, we have tended to ignore or erase its great relevance to our own history." -King Charles III

And that is the one whose menstruation has stopped due to her older age. ♦️Historian of science Victor Robinson succinctly summarises the contrast between medieval Europe and Islamic Spain: “Europe was darkened at sunset, Cordova shone with public lamps; Europe was dirty, Cordova built a thousand baths; Europe was covered with vermin, Cordova changed its undergarments daily; Europe lay in mud, Cordova’s streets were paved; Europe’s palaces had smoke-holes in the ceiling, Cordova’s arabesques were exquisite; Europe’s nobility could not sign its name, Cordova’s children went to school; Europe’s monks could not read the baptismal service, Cordova’s teachers created a library of Alexandrian dimensions.” ( Robinson, V. (1936). The Story of Medicine. New York: Tudor Publishing Company, p. 164. ) ♦️Professor Thomas Arnold Said : “..…Muslim Spain had written one of the brightest pages in the history of Medieval Europe…bringing into birth a new poetry and a new culture, and it was from her that Christian scholars received what of Greek philosophy and science they had to stimulate their mental activity up to the time of the Renaissance.” (Arnold, T. (1896). The Preaching of Islam, p. 112.) ♦️Perhaps one of the most poignant summaries of the greatness of the civilisation that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ created, is in a speech by the former CEO of Hewlett Packard, Carly Fiorina: “There was once a civilization that was the greatest in the world. It was able to create a continental super-state that stretched from ocean to ocean, and from northern climes to tropics and deserts. Within its dominion lived hundreds of millions of people, of different creeds and ethnic origins. One of its languages became the universal language of much of the world, the bridge between the peoples of a hundred lands. Its armies were made up of people of many nationalities, and its military protection allowed a degree of peace and prosperity that had never been known. “And this civilization was driven more than anything, by invention. Its architects designed buildings that defied gravity. Its mathematicians created the algebra and algorithms that would enable the building of computers, and the creation of encryption. Its doctors examined the human body, and found new cures for disease. Its astronomers looked into the heavens, named the stars, and paved the way for space travel and exploration. Its writers created thousands of stories. Stories of courage, romance and magic. “When other nations were afraid of ideas, this civilization thrived on them, and kept them alive. When censors threatened to wipe out knowledge from past civilizations, this civilization kept the knowledge alive, and passed it on to others. While modern Western civilization shares many of these traits, the civilization I’m talking about was the Islamic world from the year 800 to 1600, which included the Ottoman Empire and the courts of Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo, and enlightened rulers like Suleiman the Magnificent. “Although we are often unaware of our indebtedness to this other civilization, its gifts are very much a part of our heritage. The technology industry would not exist without the contributions of Arab mathematicians. Leaders like Suleiman contributed to our notions of tolerance and civic leadership. And perhaps we can learn a lesson from his example: It was leadership based on meritocracy, not inheritance. It was leadership that harnessed the full capabilities of a very diverse population that included Christianity, Islamic, and Jewish traditions. This kind of enlightened leadership-leadership that nurtured culture, sustainability, diversity and courage-led to 800 years of invention and prosperity.” (Hewlett Packard. (2001). @Rami Rambou ...,...Muslims pray in dir. of the black stone . Muslims touch and kiss it believing it can erase sin. Only God can or may do that even with God no guanrantee but kissing a black stone yes. Muhammad changed prayer direction from Jerusalem to pagan Kaaba when he realised Christians and Jews would never accept him as Prophet. So he made Islam his own Arab religion mixing pagan tradition with his own personal new religion. First he started to adore his former pagan stuff again only thing he did was get rid of the competition the 360 idols. If the Christians and Jews did not want him arab tribes would have to follow him.That is why he tried to marry as many women of different families to become their son so he would be protected under tribal rules.

@reba singh we are also against it but what can we do,we are just waiting for a spark as much as you because hijab cannot be enforced upon any women,its their choice but because some people exaggerated it to extreme.you cant blame the whole community for it.not everyone thinks violence is a solution neither the religion allows nor supports such extreme actions!
reba singh
reba singh 7 aylar önce
@Raheem Feroz it is not some people. The Ayatollah of Iran is to the Shia muslims what the Pope is to the Catholics. The Ayatollah is the Supreme leader of Iran. The laws of Iran are Islamic laws which are approved by a 22 member supreme council which invludes 6 Muslim clerics. It is they who have approved the Hijab laws and all other Islamic Sharia laws. They have appointed an Islamic morality police to enforce these laws. In many other Myslin countries the situation is similar. Hence please do not try to mislead innocent Christians.

/::::Allaah says “And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the ‘Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubt (about their periods), is three months; and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise” [al-Talaaq 65:4] In this verse we see that Allaah states that for those who do not menstruate - because they are young and have not yet reached the age of puberty - the ‘iddah in the case of divorce is three months. Quran Tafsir Al-Jalalayn Surah 65:4 And [as for] those of your women who (read allā’ī or allā’i in both instances) no longer expect to menstruate, if you have any doubts, about their waiting period, their prescribed [waiting] period shall be three months, and [also for] those who have not yet menstruated, because of their young age, their period shall [also] be three months - both cases apply to other than those whose spouses have died; for these [latter] their period is prescribed in the verse: they shall wait by themselves for four months and ten [days] ....waiting period after divorce from children pedo Bedouin garbage

@Andy Miller When you quote something, you should be honest and truthful. The verse in the Quran does not "young" nor does it say: "who have not reached the year of menstruation", it says: "those who have NOT [do not, could not] have menses." The words and opinions of people are not part of the Quran, and not the words of God.

Professor Casagranda is a remarkable historian! What a pleasure listening to his lectures which connect me to my parents’ countries ( Spain and Lebanon), two countries dear to my heart and through which I got to explore the regions around them ( the Levant in the case of Lebanon and the Iberian Peninsula and furthermore travel and live in Italy, Malta, Crete, Turkey and France, countries where Arabs left their imprint directly or indirectly. What’s sad is that none of these historical facts have been taught by my European teachers at the French Lycées where I was schooled when we lived in London, Rome, Madrid, Stockholm, Santiago and Houston, nor at any European university. Europeans don’t even know their own history, they think that everything goes back to the Greeks and Romans. They’re so ignorant! They don’t even know where Europe was born and that she was Phoenician from Tyre ( what is today Lebanon the land that gave us the Alphabet and many other inventions.

Wow.. This is what I call an eye opener.. It's really sad that our world is lead by ignorant people the same as those burning the great libraries in our history. But the knowledge always find a way to survive such events and I really hope people like this gentleman get more aceess to more people.

I am an Arab Muslim, your lecture is interesting, especially the second text of it, when you talk to your students about the inventions of Muslims and massacres, and prove the truth hidden from most people in the West and civilization, and we are all interconnected, whether language or otherwise, we cannot isolate ourselves from each other, etc. Nice video

.l..l..l.. do you follow the Sunnah of the Prophet can you send me a pic of you cross dressing like your Prophet “Do not annoy me regarding ‘A’isha, for inspiration has not come to me when I was in any WOMAN’S GARMENT but ‘A’isha’s.” They then called Fatima, sent her to God’s messenger, and she spoke to him, but he replied, “Do you not like what I like, girlie?” She said, “Certainly,” so he said, “Then love this woman.” (Bukhari and Muslim.)

Fantastic Lecture. With some funny bits in there. I like how you used comedy to keep the darker bits a bit more palatable without diminishing the seriousness of the subject.

Finally a lecture from Dr Roy. I've sat through different classes and professors but there comes a point where you lose interest and consequently fail to understand what's going on. However with professor Roy, I ve watched his lectures and I am completely engrossed from start to finish and its guaranteed after the lecture you will know more than you did before . I wish we all had teachers like Dr Roy but thanks to YT and Austin School Channel we can still benefit from his knowledge and talks . Thanks to the professor and all those who are involved in uploading the video.

... waiting period of those who do not have menstruation because they are too young.This is the reasong Saudi "marry" little girls in Yemen many die the first night. You know that why do you try to defend it ? Child marriage has long been a scourge in Yemen, one of the few countries in the region without a legal minimum age of marriage.An eight-year-old Yemeni girl has died of internal bleeding on her wedding night after marrying a man five times her age, It's Sunnah the Prophet did it. Please Muslims stop this madness

Historian of science *Victor Robinson* succinctly summarises the contrast between medieval Europe and Islamic Spain: “Europe was darkened at sunset, Cordova shone with public lamps; Europe was dirty, Cordova built a thousand baths; Europe was covered with vermin, Cordova changed its undergarments daily; Europe lay in mud, Cordova’s streets were paved; Europe’s palaces had smoke-holes in the ceiling, Cordova’s arabesques were exquisite; Europe’s nobility could not sign its name, Cordova’s children went to school; Europe’s monks could not read the baptismal service, Cordova’s teachers created a library of Alexandrian dimensions.” ( Robinson, V. (1936). The Story of Medicine. New York: Tudor Publishing Company, p. 164. ) Professor *Thomas Arnold* Said : “..…Muslim Spain had written one of the brightest pages in the history of Medieval Europe…bringing into birth a new poetry and a new culture, and it was from her that Christian scholars received what of Greek philosophy and science they had to stimulate their mental activity up to the time of the Renaissance.” (Arnold, T. (1896). The Preaching of Islam, p. 112.) Perhaps one of the most poignant summaries of the greatness of the civilisation that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ created, is in a speech by the former CEO of *Hewlett Packard,* Carly Fiorina: “There was once a civilization that was the greatest in the world. It was able to create a continental super-state that stretched from ocean to ocean, and from northern climes to tropics and deserts. Within its dominion lived hundreds of millions of people, of different creeds and ethnic origins. One of its languages became the universal language of much of the world, the bridge between the peoples of a hundred lands. Its armies were made up of people of many nationalities, and its military protection allowed a degree of peace and prosperity that had never been known. “And this civilization was driven more than anything, by invention. Its architects designed buildings that defied gravity. Its mathematicians created the algebra and algorithms that would enable the building of computers, and the creation of encryption. Its doctors examined the human body, and found new cures for disease. Its astronomers looked into the heavens, named the stars, and paved the way for space travel and exploration. Its writers created thousands of stories. Stories of courage, romance and magic. “When other nations were afraid of ideas, this civilization thrived on them, and kept them alive. When censors threatened to wipe out knowledge from past civilizations, this civilization kept the knowledge alive, and passed it on to others. While modern Western civilization shares many of these traits, the civilization I’m talking about was the Islamic world from the year 800 to 1600, which included the Ottoman Empire and the courts of Baghdad, Damascus and Cairo, and enlightened rulers like Suleiman the Magnificent. “Although we are often unaware of our indebtedness to this other civilization, its gifts are very much a part of our heritage. The technology industry would not exist without the contributions of Arab mathematicians. Leaders like Suleiman contributed to our notions of tolerance and civic leadership. And perhaps we can learn a lesson from his example: It was leadership based on meritocracy, not inheritance. It was leadership that harnessed the full capabilities of a very diverse population that included Christianity, Islamic, and Jewish traditions. This kind of enlightened leadership-leadership that nurtured culture, sustainability, diversity and courage-led to 800 years of invention and prosperity.” (Hewlett Packard. (2001). Carly Fiorina Speeches. Technology, Business and Our Way of Life: What’s Next.}

9...,,,,Quran book of Allah chapter 65 verse 4 - Tafsir Ibn Al Kathir The Iddah of Those in Menopause and Those Who do not have Menses Allah the Exalted clarifies the waiting period of the woman in menopause. And that is the one whose menstruation has stopped due to her older age. Her Iddah is three months instead of the three monthly cycles for those who menstruate, which is based upon the Ayah in (Surat) Al-Baqarah. 228 The same for the young, who have not reached the years of menstruation. Their Iddah is three months like those in menopause.....The same for the young, who have not reached the years of menstruation. pedo pigs

L;::::Allaah says “And those of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the ‘Iddah (prescribed period), if you have doubt (about their periods), is three months; and for those who have no courses [(i.e. they are still immature) their ‘Iddah (prescribed period) is three months likewise” [al-Talaaq 65:4] In this verse we see that Allaah states that for those who do not menstruate - because they are young and have not yet reached the age of puberty - the ‘iddah in the case of divorce is three months.
