Thanks! What is WRONG with our media? Why doesn't EVERYONE know about Zipline and their awesome (both from a technical and a humanitarian point of view) system, ? I haven't seen squat about them in Mechanical Engineering, Technology Review, or Discover magazines, much less mainstream media. They definitely deserve more coverage. Thanks so much for your coverage, as well as all your crazy/silly/fun projects. Continue to keep us smiling, Mark

As a Rwandan, I am thrilled to see the progress my country is making through technology, and the impact that innovative companies like Zipline are having in developing countries. The revolutionary work of Zipline in providing medical supplies via drone technology is changing lives and improving access to healthcare in rural areas. I am grateful to see this highlighted in a video by Mark Rober, and I appreciate the attention it brings to the positive advancements happening in Rwanda.

@Wayne Bimmel They will. They just won't be a first adopter. Physical technologies take time to knock out all the issues and reduce risks. We have become to enamored with the rate of change of software and computer processors. This is just not possible in the normal iterative environment of physical components. Give it time, you will see. It won't be next year though.

This is absolutely incredible. Way to go Zipline! I have a question - has the company thought about revising the fulfilment process such that the planes are already assembled with batters? This may reduce time in setting up the wings and batteries each time. This may require the space to be reconfigured of course. This way the batteries only have to be replaced once they're closer to being depleted.

@Thorwald Johanson they probably hold most of that value in the fact that they are building for the future, it may not be worth that at this very moment, but based on projections and the fact that they've got VERY strong proof of their concept means that their valuation is sky rocketed (pun not intended)

Western Australia area = 2.646 million km² , Rwanda area = 26,798 km² . With WA being nearly 100 times the size of Rwanda, coverage is the challenge. But with better battery tech, I think we'll see this in very remote areas in the future. For further reference the Tokyo metropolitan area alone is about half the size of Rwanda.

Thank you so much for sharing about this company to all of us, and I really hope they spread across the world because just imagine, 88% of deaths in hospita could be prevented with this (although I guess it’s gonna be more impactful in somewhere like Rwanda, but still, it’s crazy

That was an overarching percentage number. Realistically how many supplies are needed on-sight for birthing? Some yes but not enough to improve that 88% statistic. I think that is an overall healthcare reform and the drones are an added benefit that helps.

Mark, this video should win some sort of award. It touches on so many positive things. First, it was produced so well. It was engaging and inspirational. It highlighted brilliant engineering and described the process from concept to prototype to solution. It was entertaining. It makes me want to visit Rwanda, It demonstrated the resilience of a country besieged by terrible civil war. I could go on and on. This video gives me hope for mankind and was a breath of fresh air. It was an escape from all the political nonsense going on and negativity we are exposed to 24/7. Thank you again for this video.

Exactly my thoughts, stated so much better than I could. This is a very important presentation of excellent technology, purpose, people, and hope for a nation.

The kid showing Abdul his model drone was one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. Imagine seeing someone be inspired like that by something you built

I don't get it Zipline is a pure American company founded by someone else, Abdul didn't invent or build those drones what am i missing? Zipline is an American company that designs, manufactures, and operates delivery drones. The company operates distribution centers in Rwanda, Ghana, Japan, the United States, and Nigeria, with signed agreements to begin service in Cote d'Ivoire and Kenya.

@Holio I'm curious about this as that is very different from the story presented in the video and what Rwandan people say in the comments. Where did you find this information?

@Holioi believe it’s because ziplines biggest market is rwanda its where they first started to do the drones the US actually came waaay later rwanda played a big part in how they service rural areas you know how they plan it and stuff rwandan division of their company also likely made massive contributions to the company to drone development their plans ect to give a example how important zipline is to rwanda and how important rwanda is to zipline outside of kegali 75% of blood deliveries are made by zipline

From tragedy to triumph he is an amazing person! Just the part about learning to fix MRI machines from youtube videos was impressive, but the drone program has made him a globally recognized genius. He did what others said was impossible. Abdul is a national hero!

Where would the world be today, if he hadn't survived the atrocities he faced. How many lives has he saved, because he lived? This is the butterfly effect in real life.
