This is exactly right. When I, as a Korean, first heard Ellen ask BTS about hooking up with their fans, I was literally in shock. That was SO rude to ask them such a nasty question. No wonder what Ellen’s personal life would be like.

I am 62 and don't really take much notice of the music scene, but the fact that these young men saw this witch for what she is, makes them one of my favourite groups.

When sakshma Srivastav interviewed BTS i feel so happy because she didn't asked questions like that the Ellen did .Her interview is the best interview ever rm didn't faked smile and she focused on all the members and asked questions to all the members and praised every one .she literally rocked out of all the American interviewers tho. Ellen does make people uncomfortable while interviewing, but you really don’t know what actually happened. BTS are really humble and they didn’t revealed anything or talked about never goin to her either. I don’t really like Ellen but just assuming what might have happened is just wrong. Edit-I’m glad to know so many people think the same way as me but please don’t fight in the comments.

The BTS members are such hard workers. They DESERVED to be treated with respect same with all the other guests. She should NOT have asked them during the second visit OR even ever. It’s a disgustingly rude question to ask and she should be doing research or at least know boundaries to RESPECT these guests. I also found it really heartwarming when they pointed at army when they didn’t understand thinking it meant if they ever loved anyone. It shows they really care for their fans and don’t just consider them people they make money from. Edit: I’m actually really happy RM stood up for what was right in the place of the other members. It really shows how connected they are and how much they care about each other.

They gave her a second chance and she blew it. That was blatant disrespectful behavior on her part. It made me upset the first time, so I can only imagine how the members felt. If she truly cares about her show and content she should have understood the boundaries and prepared properly the first time they appeared.

I am an indian army and my personal opinion is that whenever a foreign interviewer wants to interview bts they must do a little bit research on kpop and bts . The way sakshma interviewed bts was very impressive . She didn't ask any uncomfortable questions but she asked very intellectual questions based on their hardwork, hardships in life , their career etc . In kpop dating has to be really private . BTS are soo busy on their comebacks . I feel that they don't get enough time to sleep . Jin also mentioned in his previous vlive on August 9 2021 that he sleeps like at 1 or 2 and the others like 3 or 5 . Jhope and jk did a vlive like at 12 30 am KST. If we see this they don't even have have time to sleep how can they have time to date? Armies don't bother if they date because they r 23 -28 year old boys so there is nothing wrong in doing it . Please stop asking bts such kind of questions

I personally think these aren't factual reasons, these assumptions and theories about why they don't support or associate with Ellen. However, BTS I support you for not being around Ellen because she does make her guest uncomfortable by doing too much. Along with accusations of mistreatment, racism and rude behavior, I can understand why they don't want to come to her talk show again.

About the dating question, of course they understood it immediately but what surprises me is that for any interview (at least with idols), the questions are validated way before the shooting and their answers are prepared beforehand so the question is: was this question not on the list and Ellen actually trapped them (which wouldn't surprise me...) ? 🤔

Based on the Kpop industry, the artists are told what to do/say and what shows to be on by their agency. If they have to go to Ellen show even if they are uncomfortable, they still have to. Usually when someone has a bad rep, they are cancelled in korea and no one wants to associate themselves with that person. Ellen has a bad rep now and the company probably dont to associate the boys with her show anymore

I remember watching Ellen with my grandma and even dedicating a projects in school about Ellen because we had to make a pumpkin look like someone and write about them I use to love her but for the past couple of years the fame is really getting to her head

I’ve never been a big Ellen fan myself. I did drop into a couple of episodes-NOT the BTS interview, before that - of her show a couple of times and I was getting uncomfortable vibes even then. During my first year of college, I attended this school that mostly farm kids and small towners went to and I think I was the only one on my side of the dorm from a suburb (for the most part). This one girl next door to me would invite me into her room every night and put me in the spotlight as if I was the latest Hollywood sensation or something. I actually was trying to hook up with my best guy friend then (complicated story though we were engaged years down the road and he ghosted me four years later, that’s why I call him my ex-fiancé in most cases but that was YEARS before he proposed to me) and I had told her a little bit about him. At some point, she asked me how far I wanted to go with him. I was COMPLETELY caught off guard that she would ask me such a thing even though she hardly even knew me! I’m autistic (though that was also years before I accepted that fact about myself) and one of the most private people I know. I was very unused to sharing about myself like that with a tone at that time. Plus it wasn’t at all helpful to the depression that I was battling at that time. I don’t think that’s something that should be shared as casually as seeing your family for the holidays, either. I can only imagine how humiliated BTS felt when Ellen asked them that unnecessary and incredibly degrading question! I’m not normally like this but it made me want to gather all seven of them in the warmest hug I could muster-though I’m not not sure about that culture-wise. They handled what Ellen did to them with more grace than I handled that one dorm co-student of mine-though I did stop hanging out with her and her group shortly after. And it’s actually making me tear up. And I’m also not sorry to be hearing about Ellen’s ending that show this May. I’m just so awed at how incredibly humble and common sense BTS really is!

When interviewing celebrities specially from other countries, i think it would be proper to know their beliefs and culture to avoid "accidental" disrespect. Of course, it's anyone's right to unfollow whomever they want, but anyone in the entertainment business should know what the talk show circuit is all about...looking for tidbits for their audiences. All of these shows are negotiated before the stars hit the stage, and BTS's management should have been more direct / clearer as to what is tolerated. After the first show, there should not have been a second show it that's how they felt. The news about Ellen hit the airwaves I believe in 2020, during lockdown, so in 2017, if BTS felt that uncomfortable, they should have turned down the invitation in 2018. Obviously, in America, there are various shows to raise your visibility - if that's you're after. Ellen is not the only show!

Completely inappropriate behavior. In their culture, as the video said, that's a big no no. In my opinion it not only disrespected them but also their fans. If I was in their place that would have definitely done it for me. In fact, after the visit during which she asked the question for the first time, I would not have gone back. The BTS members deserve respect. No one should be on the receiving end of that behavior.

I'm all for being culturally aware when approaching someone of such things. It's pretty horrendous behavior she did that. The show is notorious for toxicity, rudeness, insensitivity, restrictions, and just ridiculous "rules", I'm disappointed it's still even a show that continues. If we want to only see A list celebs than fine, but other celebrities are still celebrities. Foolishness.

The only thing is the celebrities in The US are used to that behaviour from ellen. They even laugh sometimes, because they know the way she is, but is is totally different for BTS, because their culture is completely different. She should get more educated in other peoples cultures and realized that, she should be respectful to others. To me, she is a nasty person, thinking she can do or say anything she wants just because is her show and she is famous. I aplaude BTS for not wanting to go back to her show. That's the kinds of questions you get in America. She was being a bit messy and trying to be funny at the same time and had no idea that it was going to be unacceptable. She also underestimated the fandom. I can see it happening the first time, but definitely not the 2nd time. I just think that she was probably a bit dismissive of them and kept to her script regardless of how they reacted or felt. The translator probably never explained to her how inappropriate it was to ask them that question. I always said that the first year was a mess in the US. They needed to have better PR and to be able to do it like they do now so subtitles are there and all the members can answer.

I respect every human being and culture but I never want to be so politically correct that I am forced to lose my sense of humour. I think laughter brings everyone from every background together so at some point we have to look at not endangering the freedom to laugh and be free. This feels too much tbh.

I am personally glad BTS is never dealing with Ellen ever again and that gives me peace of mind. They don’t deserve this and of course they really need to be very careful who they keep around especially now. I say this as just a ordinary adult, not as an angry ARMY. I understand cultures are different between Korea and United States. Ellen may not have known that it’s a taboo to ask dating or romance related questions to BTS. I personally think even for an American standard, what Ellen asked was out of line. Well, asking about romance should be avoided at all costs with BTS because whomever they date will also face a lot of stuff and everyone will be after the men too.
