I LOVE CHARLIE PUTH SO MUCH the "anti-drop" ❤️

What the fuck is an anti drop? That is just a drop like 1000000 others

anti drop is actually a thing commonly used in music and in many pop songs nowadays like 'don't start now' by Dua Lipa.

Murat Bayraktar

That's more than a gift, imo. There you can see the hard work and effort he puts in; moreover, he is graduated from Berklee College of Music meaning he has the musical background and sufficient knowledge to put what goes from his mind. Other than that, every soul is special and somehow produces special things, he is just mastered the way he expresses himself.

His voice is actually tenoral or high baritone, but he prefers to speak in deep voices so as not to tire his voice. It uses falset but also has very high full tones.

i love how self conscious he is about everything. it almost feels like like he's really afraid that the music nerds are gonna roast him for being too basic and formulaic, but the normies are gonna roast him for being too pretentious, and he's trying to be relatable to both ends of the spectrum at once haha.
B W Aylar önce
'basic' is the hardest thing though. And Charlie knows that. It must be hard for him , knowing what people must be thinking.

In my experience the faster an artist can get away from conventional theory and production mindset the faster they can be an artist. They turn into scholars, not artists. I have a buddy who went to Berklee and is the most hardcore and well rounded student of music I've ever met. 15 years into his career he's giving lessons in the same town we grew up in. Music theory and the study of what others have done are good tools to learn and use. But put them down and create like a kid without rules too. Or else you'll make a career out of emulating the empirical.

That 'anti-drop' is what made me love this song so much because there's a great build-up to fewer instruments and that was pretty new when this song came out. People are following the trend a lot more now though and I love it. Charlie Puth is probably one of my favourite artists because he's just so talented!

i feel like charlie also utilizes silence in song making a lot in a way a lotta folks arent quite yet
scur 4 aylar önce
@Dave F i believe you just described what an antidrop is haha. a regular "drop" would have that build up and then go even further or punchier, but in this case it builds up then goes into a really toned down, bareboned rhythm.
Dave F
Dave F 7 aylar önce
Idk it cuts out and then it's just a heavy bassline. That kinda still feels like a drop

It’s impossible to not appreciate artists like that. Being able to sing is talent. Being able to produce is talent. Being able to do both and on that kind of level? That’s something else.

I envy this guys musical intelligence. He’s honestly a musical genius.
skierpage Gün önce
You set the bar for "genius" ridiculously low. He can sing and play piano and self-produce (by necessity, since record companies won't advance most artists the money to record with a producer). Tens of thousands of other musicians do the same. Now Sturgeon's law applies, 95% of everything is cr*p, and Charlie Puth is really good, but that doesn't make him a genius. There isn't one genius-level element in this song: not the melody, the chords, the lyrics, nor the production; it's just another good song much better than the 95%. I'm not even sure he's more talented than Shawn Mendes, are they both geniuses?

As a musician myself, I really really like his brain and the way he's doing things. I did the phone thing pretty often in my car because I've never learned writing notes 'n stuff.. What a great musician..

He is to songwriters what Penn and Teller are to magicians, in my opinion. And I do mean that in the best of ways. The only people who get mad at him are people who are more interested in elitism and exclusion than in songwriting.

That's exactly how I am I play music by ear and I hated taking piano lessons. I have a hard time just like right off the bat looking at notes and knowing what they are I have to like basically go in and count up from C and figure out what the note is in write it in and it just like practice and then it's all memorization after that because I play by ear and so all use my voice note on my phone and a Melody will come up in my head out of the blue or I'm listening to a song and it inspires me to make some other Melody based off of the song that's playing and then I'll record it into my voice notes and then save it for a future date to make a song out of it.

There's nothing impressive about his singing voice. Coz' Charlie said that he is using Auto-Tune. He is also using Auto-Tune live in his many concerts. Sometimes his Auto-Tuning is horrible in some songs like Done For Me from the Voicenotes. But his music making skills are really-really impressive.

The first single I had my parents buy me was "She Loves You" by the Beatles. So yes, I'm old. But I loved 70's disco (especially "Car Wash" which Charlie plays the bass line to here). And I wrote songs on sequencers back in the 90s. So I'm really impressed with Charlie's breadth of musical and technical knowledge, on top of his obvious vocal and compositional talent. Great stuff!

of course manny doesn't mix everything, no top engineer does. they will usually have an intern or assistant prep mixes for them. In this case charlie will mix what he can then manny will take it and enhance it one or two steps further manny can't do what charlie does, but charlie can't do what manny does. two different art forms
ZakkADSR 7 aylar önce
@Yakshraj Singh "The Music Production & Engineering (MP&E) Major at Berklee College of Music is notable for attempting to give students an integrated understanding of the recording and production process, rather than focusing on the engineering aspects alone" they focus more on music production, and then learn enough recording/mixing to make something sound good. if he knew learned everything he needed to know about mixing from your beloved berklee, why would he hire Manny Marroquin LMAO

@MINIE fact is, if you know how to use autotune and you have a good voice, then autotune can be a really good element to the song. You just need to know how to use it. And there is literally NOTHING wrong with autotune but the reason people think of autotune as a bad thing is because some people use it without training their voice at all and not using the right amount of autotune.
