He's speaking to a room full of empty seats. Our government has failed us in so many ways.

It’s sad when you realize the country you love isn’t the best country in the world as we were told as kids to believe. Objectively, we’re not even close.

Today was my kid's last day before summer. I have to thank god he made another year safe. Because I can't thank my government.

Can’t even say enough is enough anymore. Truth be told it was ENOUGH the first time it happened back in March of 1891. Unbelievably sad that with so much time passed, almost nothing has been learnt. The world is watching. Rest in peace precious babies😢🖤rest in peace. Thank you Mr. Murphy. Godspeed🙏🏾

Im from germany. The craziest thing that happened was a shooting alarm triggered by a technical failure a few years ago in school. Other than that i never felt unsafe in school in terms of mass shootings. I cant imagine what these kids go through in the US. My prayers go to the victims and their families. Its just crazy to see, and i feel very privileged that we have strict gun laws where you cant go to the store nearby and get an automatic rifle..

Other countries cannot fathom something like this happening even once in their schools. There is something fundamentally wrong in America.

Tears streaming down my face having just seen the news report. These words are so desperately important. Please do something, finally, this time.

when I was a sophomore in high school my school had its first shooting threat. The school was notified that right when the bell rang between classes, there would be a shooting. We were not told this until after we arrived at school, but the school knew and still had us come to school. They increased security as if that would make us feel safer. I remember the dread leading up to the bell. I had to walk from one side of the school to the other (literally the longest distance between classes) and had my eyes glued to each exit I passed in case I needed to escape. I felt like a pig awaiting slaughter in my own high school. Crowds of us could easily have been gunned down before the “extra security” could even react. Most people went home before the school day ended in fear. The worst part is that it felt like an inevitable experience.

In Australia, we are praying and grieve with you. In the 18 years before the 1996 gun law reforms driven by the Port Arthur massacre, there were 13 mass shootings in Australia, and zero in the decade afterwards. Please America, stop this madness. My heart is breaking 💔

As a high school student, this means so much to me and many other heartbroken school communities. Thank you so much, senator. Your words are making history.

He asked, "Why are you here?" Politicians respond by saying, "To get rich!" We have some of the worst politicians in both parties who don't give a damn about common people issues and problems.

Teacher here. Thank you so much Senator Murphy for initiating this conversation with such seriousness and sincerity. I am far from Connecticut, but am willing to do anything that I can to put a permanent end gun violence.

As a common sense conservative; I COMPLETLY agree with everything you said.

This is the political issue that I side with the Dems on. There’s far too many Americans who are too blinded by their love of guns to have the common sense enough to change…and politicians too reliant on the NRA

I have never heard Senator Murphy so angry. It’s righteous anger and much needed. Thank you for being so outspoken about this problem. No more “thoughts and prayers”, or “it’s too soon” crap. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

I'm 67 and have no children. So I feel like every child is my child. Sort of "it takes a village" attitude. It hurts me to the core that we still allow so many guns be to purchased in this country and that so many people are dying. As Sen. Murphy said, we are the ONLY country that has mass shootings at schools. There is a underlying anger in this country. It pushes people over the edge. We MUST restrict assault type weapons. We MUST limit the number of guns a person can own. We MUST do better background checks. There is so much we can do. It won't solve the entire problem of murders in the U. S., but it will down scale it. Look towards England and see how they handle gun laws and ownership. Those children in Uvalde did not need to die.

Senator Murphy, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm so proud to say that you are my senator. My Husbeast and I have 3 kids, and our youngest is just 11 years old. The relief deep in my heart when my oldest 2 graduated stunned me. I didn't realize just how much fear I was clinging to over the years.
