Anthony, although I know you from Smosh, but you can’t speak out against China nor Russia. If you still meet up with Ian from Smosh, this rule will still apply to him. No one in my life are allowed to speak out against the Chinese Communist Party. Don’t discuss me about Putin either. I don’t know much about Russian politics.

I'm sorry, but why do you have to be non-binary to like both boyish and girlish things? I watch MLP, but I feel as much male as before! I think it just takes power away from the genders to like different things if our interests are bound to our gender.

Angel's advice is exactly what I did in college! It really helped to be removed from my home life which had contributed to a ton of self doubt and just get out there and open my mind and my self to the possibilities of my identity. I'm really fortunate I was surrounded by a great group of friends who embraced me and my new name and pronouns with open arms and before I knew it, everyone knew me as Baz and I was even bucking up the courage to ask my professors to call me Baz as well! I'm really glad I went through with it, the whole experience helped me become who I am today. I'm still learning and growing and trying new things but it's such a relief to be true to myself ❤

If anyone could please discover a new way to create a new human being, that DOESN'T involve the union of a single complete functional sperm cell with a single complete functional egg cell, then that would break the sexual binary. If you can't, then human sex is in fact a binary. So guess what. Sex is binary. Because that's what the sexual binary means. And the he/she boxes you check on documents, driver's license, gov't census, and online profiles, etc. are asking to correspond to sex. Not gender. And if sex and gender are completely separate as these people say, then there should be no problem continuing to use the regular pronouns we've always used. Problem solved. Except they won't allow it to be 'problem solved,' because they need something to fight against. You already have the freedom to live your life the way you want. "Male" and "female" labels do not limit that whatsoever. It's all in your head.

While I do identify as a Cisgender female I can understand the stigma of playing with toys meant for the "opposite sex". I was always a big tomboy. I always wanted Legos and Hotwheels rather than dolls and most people thought that was weird. I never understood why that matters. Let kids play with what they think is fun!

How would it work with a X on your ID? You would still need to look like your picture, it's your identification.(If you're making drastic changes that is.) If you're not doing that, I don't see a problem with a X. That's something I am curious about. It's cool learning more about it all, so I can be respectful. Treat people the way you want to be treated.

One thing I will say Is this dysphoria can be more than about the physical body it can be much more, can be about how people perceive you, how something makes you feel
SalCee

@Kay T It's possible to overcome dysphoria over how other people perceive you. It just takes good therapy and probably some growth and maturity as well. It's not inevitable.

Language struggles when it comes to enbys is really something. :( At least there's they/them in English but in my language - Swiss German - we still don't have accurate pronouns for non-binary folks. My bestie is an enby too but they're from the US so we converse in English. I'm truly so glad that they're comfortable with she/they/he, so when I talk to my irl friends or family about them, I use she/her pronouns in Swiss German and I know that's okay. I would never want to use the wrong pronouns for them, even when they can't hear me talking about them.😭 But I really hope our language will undergo some changes that an equivalent to the English they/them can become widely known and accepted. And also, as a psychology student, I can confirm that gender is a social construct. I've already learned that in my first semester (although I've known about it before, but it felt good to have this statement backed up by science). edit: typos

@Ziq Scientifically speaking, people will always have a biological sex. but historically there have been people who have had other gender identities for centuries. This isn’t some brand new thing. People have different beliefs at the end of the day. Gender is how you feel, sex is biological. Even most scientists agree with this. If you can’t understand gender identities, the very least you can do is respect their pronouns because pronouns aren’t gendered. Anyone can use they/them pronouns because language is constantly evolving for one. Guys can use she/her and girls can use he/him. It’s basic English, most English instructors would agree. You also shouldn’t harass people in real life either and constantly have them have to explain. They aren’t forcing people to change their beliefs and question their faith, they just want respect and to be seen as such. At the end of the day, we live in a world with billions of different people and different opinions, we need to learn to co-exist with each other and have common human decency.
Ziq
Ziq Gün önce
@Sunny as a religious person, I get it if some people don't believe in religion, cause yeah they need a proof. But gender, it's only has male or female, and it's a scientific proof! You can even check for yourself if you're a male or female, why you guys have to complicated your life by calling you guys them/they. If you are a woman you're pronounce are she/her. If you're a man you're he/his. Is that so hard?
Sunny
Sunny 4 gün önce
Why is being a respectful human being so hard for you? Like even with identity aside, regardless of your beliefs, guys can use she/her pronouns if they like, vice versa, they/them whatever. The very least you can do is respect the pronouns and keep your opinions to yourself. We live in a world with different points of view. You can express your opinion without trashing others.

well, sex is the thing that is determined biologically while gender is actually a system of roles created by society, which is why when women do things that are seen ‘manly’ by others, they appear trans. gender is a social construct and non binary is an opposition to it

I saw this video now, but it still is so beautiful to watch! This is an important thing that needs to be talked about!! But I'm wondering now... and this may come off as kind of a weird question but: What do non-binary people do when going on public bathrooms? And again, I mean this in a nice way, cuz I'm just curious. Do they go to the female bathroom or the male bathroom, or is it kind of a struggle to actually choose? If someone who identifies as non-binary can answer that for me, or if anyone else has other thoughts then I would love to hear it!

This comment will go unnoticed probably but I guess a part of me just wants it out. As a Non Binary teenager living in spain (and with german family) it is kinda difficult, we do not have a They/Them as such, instead we change the gendered words (-a for fem./ -o for masc.) into a “neutral “-e” which honestly just sounds like a dialect here in Catalonia/Spain. As I am REALLY greatful for having such understanding parents, it still is difficult for them to grasp the concept of something out of the Binary, so my mom would go “my dear girl” (we don’t have a word for child or kid, german has tho) and she would apologise, but really just the gendered word like “beautiful girl (niña bonita/guapa)” just sometimes really feels like a punch in the gutts. So language does play a big part. … I could write a whole novel but I think every Non Binary/ Genderqueer person in this society right now has Thanks for coming to my TED talk 🤓

why do people even need to label themselves? This issue is stupid and only creating unneeded conflict. there are so many other issues in the world not need to be fixed before we split hairs over how people want to be identified. instead of talking about this stupid topic lets stop world hunger, or how we need to clean our oceans of plastic.
P Connolly
P Connolly 3 gün önce
@p Agree with you entirely that people getting killed needs to stop! and human rights for individuals to live their lives they want to needs to be the norm in the world. But again, there are way more pressing issues in the world then people getting miss gendered in 1st world countries and the only people on these shows talk about is how "special and unique" they are because of their chosen gender.
p
p 4 gün önce
@P Connolly but it is an issue, people get killed just because of their identity, its not a big deal to use pronouns someone wants to but the cissies make it a big deal, people cant live how they want to-
P Connolly
P Connolly 4 gün önce
@Error Sans It actually does effect me and everyone. Its distracting attention away from world issues that are far more pressing then someone being mis-gendered at a retailer. There are still children being held at the border, the great barrier reef is basically dead, and the threat of war is getting worse and worse every year. I agree that gender norms need to done away with, but we should (as a human race) be focusing on fixing other atrocities. Not all societies are ready for this shift. It is very ethnocentric to think that just because certain groups in a 1st world countries are ready for change that everyone in the world is ready to make the same social shifts.

In Danish, we have a number of gender-neutral designations. Boyfriend / girlfriend translates to "the one I love the most" (kæreste). Husband and wife translate to " The one I share marriage with " (ægtefælle). The term "hen" is used to describe a third sex. He/ his = ham/hans, She/hers= hun /hendes, They / there = hen, / hens. There are no values attached to this 3rd gender concept. Therefore, it should not be understood as a 3rd gender, but as a term for all those who are not he / she.

what i hate is that my parents didnt push me as an afab to like any certain toys, but now with my younger brothers, they actively try to discourage them from any girly coded things, and that hurts me so much. My mom hate how certain things are labeled girl and actively make a point of hating pink herself. Which is fine for herself and all, but she shouldnt push any naratives on my siblings. I know they do that because right now they live in a village and doesnt want their kids to be persecuted by kids brainwashed by their parents, BUT THEY ARE DOING THE SAME. and so now my brothers think automaticly that girl equals pink and princess and they shouldnt like it. which opens them up to being close minded to kids out of that narrative. anyway

Ohhhh ok I’m non-binary. Like actually, what an eye-opening video. My understanding of this concept was completely far from the truth, and I resonate with it sooooo much. I love the idea of being viewed for the person I am with no prior assumptions made about who I am based on my gender. I love the idea of breaking free from limiting, out-dated gender constructs in order to explore parts of me that aren’t typically socially acceptable for a woman. Living life to the absolute fullest because of an adamant refusal to conform, and an unwavering acceptance of and love for myself. My children will always know that who they are doesn’t have to be defined by limitations set by anyone other than themselves. They will always feel safe and loved and accepted enough to explore all aspects of themselves. So, I guess that makes Anthony Padilla my gender identity guru 😂😂😂
SalCee

Why do you have to 'identify as nonbinary' to do that? In doing so you're only entrenching the limiting, sexist stereotypes even further. It's like the women's movement went right over your heads.

@SalCee and trans is a gender identity that doesnt match what you were born as. It's just a fact about the person, it doesnt mean that the person like blue and sports but it means that they identify as a boy. Nothing else. It doesnt matter how you act with that gender identity, it just tells us what kind of person if that gender you are. Its no different to pointing out that one dog is a labrador and another is a pug, when I say that I'm not saying that the pug is hyperactive and nuts and im not saying that the labrador is calm and caring, im just pointing out the kind of dog. We arent putting anything on anyone, we encourage people to act how they want to act and identify what how they want to identify, I dont know what people you interacted with to get the view of us that you have but those people I can confidently say were assholes. And you seem to be against the idea of gender as a whole which is actually quite a cool thing so I'm glad you agree with us on something. Honestly you really cant understand the simple concept of adjectives apparently and this conversation is going nowhere. To anyone with at least a tiny bit of sense reading this, cis and trans are just descriptors. It only takes a tiny bit of sense to work that out
SalCee
SalCee 8 gün önce
@Izzy Butler No. 'Cis' literally means you have a 'gender identity' that 'matches' your sex. That is the definition of sex stereotyping. The extra information that you're giving is that there are people who conform to arbitrary, sexist sex stereotypes and people who don't, making us either 'cis' or 'trans', 'binary' or 'nonbinary'. That is the entire flawed, problematic premise of your 'nonbinary gender identity'. You live for sex stereotypes. You have no issue imposing them onto other people against our will, as long as you get to have your special 'identity'. Stop playing the victim.
Izzy Butler
Izzy Butler 8 gün önce
@SalCee cis is just an adjective used to specify what type of person of that gender we are talking about. Calling a leaf red isnt stereotyping that leaf, it's just giving us more information about the leaf. Stereotyping is saying that girls like pink, so I think you need to check your definition of stereotyping. And being non-binary is hard! People constantly refuse our identities, we cant go to the bathroom in public without discomfort, if we relate to the term at a young age we get picked on because of what we are, there is so much confusion trying to find out our identities, we potentially get kicked out of our homes at a young age and we live with this fear of judgement everytime we go outside and in so many countries we cant even have our gender legally recognised. We just have to pick one. Its not all sunshine and rainbows and feeling special like you think it is. Because society put up those gender standards, we suffer. We dont want to be "special", we just want to be accepted. We dont want stereotypes so we can just live our lives normally.

So I think everyone should be able to express themselves fully. That being said biological sex is still real and there’s biological men and biological females. So sex = male/female nothing else besides the rare intersex cases which are classified as mutations. Me for instance, I never liked the traditional female things. I used to pray to God every day that by some miracle I would wake up with a penis so I would be able to participate in things that interested me and wear what made me happy. I used to be forced into dresses and scream and fight because I felt ridiculous in them. I wasn’t allowed to wear pants. It was just so intense. As I grew older, I started feeling like wait there’s not just one way to be a woman. I can be a woman and do these activities and dress this way. Then it became something I loved about myself. I realized that my sex wasn’t a curse. I was meant to live differently in the world and represent another way to be a woman. When connecting more with my indigenous roots, I came across the term two-spirit. It was like everything I felt inside. I’m also bisexual so during my interactions with most men I take on female energy and with women I take on male. I sometimes dress more tomboy and sometimes more girly. Inside me is a masculine energy and female energy dancing. I get those feelings . I guess the difference is they connect gender to clothing, outward expression, and not feeling totally male or female based on those things set but society. The way I am is to be free to express myself in terms that are my own and have nothing to do with my biological sex. I’m not limiting what a woman can or can’t do or wear to be considered. I can wear and act however I want and still be a female and be ok with that because it is my sex. Idk if that makes sense. Of course it would be different with dysphoria etc. It’s kind of a rant it’s just sharing my perception and I am happy that non-binary people feel better when they use that term.

Can someone please explain why genders need to exist and be separate from sex. I'm not trying to be hateful, I just want to know. The last time I asked someone to explain it they cut me out of their life and got their friends to send me death threats.

Gender identities exist and have always existed regardless of sex- it isn't a matter of needing to or not. It's a millennia old cultural norm. (although non binary identities are also a millennia old phenomena). But directly tied to biological sex? that's the senseless part, and directly the part that these folks are distancing themselves from.
alex
alex 14 gün önce
i'm no expert on this, but the way i see it, both terms are separated simply because they have different meanings. sex is biological, while gender is a concept we constructed to help better define and express what we identify as. does that make sense? i'm not always good at explaining stuff lol

@Emily stop indoctrinating boys. He’s a boy, that’s his identity. The end. He wants to wear nailpolish and have long hair? That’s fine, but it doesn’t change his identity altogether, he still a boy.

hey, she/they here- I don't know how old you are, but live your life. Be yourself. You will find people who value you and honour your identity, and even if your mom never understands or acknowledges your identity, she can never stop you from being your non-binary self!

How to be ''non-binary'' Step 1: Be born a boy/girl and get raised as a boy/girl. Step 2: Think you're special and searches up on google if you can remove gender. Step 3: Get your genitals removed like a fucking psycho to ''look'' non binary. Step 4: Say that you Identify as non binary. Step 5: Still have a boy/girl: Blood/DNA/Body Appearance. Step 6: Walk around like a junkie and call yourself non binary while people think you're a straight up moron. And just like that ur an ignorant piece of shit being mad at everyone who misgenders them even though you have every biological evidence that ur a boy. Like I can understand and agree if ur a boy and u like girly things.

NadirFladir
NadirFladir 17 gün önce
You cant be non - binary. You may call yourself Non binary or "identifying" yourself Non binary in the name of the law. But if we are talking about normal Biological human NATURE. Then its just not possible to be so. Imagine you being born a boy alright? And you grow up being a boy ok? And then without any reason or biological evidence. You want to identify yourself like someone without a gender? You cant choose what gender you are or if you even have one. You still have a male blood. A male DNA. And you're ofcourse born a boy.

That’s true you can’t be the opposite sex, you can pretend to be a woman or man by following this “social construct” but it doesn’t mean you are the real one.
NadirFladir
NadirFladir 16 gün önce
@Hola si Which means that you biological and humanly CANT change gender but you can PRETEND and IDENTIFY as a changed gender.
Hola si
Hola si 16 gün önce
Before you try to invalidate someone try to inform yourself first. Your gender CAN be changed, since it’s a social construct, meaning anyone can change it the way they want. However, biological reality can’t be changed. If you were born a female you can never change you genetical structure but as you grow up and you don’t feel comfortable with being a female you can IDENTIFY yourself as something else.

The way I began testing whether or not they/them pronouns worked for me was to start filling out forms with "other" gender or whatever other option they had, it was a good way to start my journey with figuring out my pronouns, and one where it was making it public but without anyone in my immediate circle knowing or reacting. (I'm out out now)
