Come along for a walk around the extensive ruins of the Charters Towers Pyrites Works, constructed in the early 1880s to extract gold from complex sulphide ores using a chlorine solution. The works were abandoned in the early 1900s after cyaniding replaced chlorination as a simpler extraction method. The Pyrites Works closed under tragic circumstances and the structures were cannibalised for other ventures in the area. All of Towers Hill is on the Queensland Heritage Register.
