Colt 45

@demonsluger go tell them that then. As far as I’m concerned they built and back their company and can do whatever they want when it comes to paying employees. All I know is they deal with buying what’s broken, paying their fees to stay running and if they go bankrupt then the employees aren’t paying for that. They can just find the next job. How about they pay more but when they need to update machines, pay for maintenance or if they go bankrupt then the employees have to help pay for it and go bankrupt themselves? But they make a nice check at least. I’ll agree with that

Biggest issue i have is with bonds action, he either has the biggest stack in which case he is not all in and able to muck his hand... Which is exactly what he does, he pushes his cards into the middle of the table face down (muck) before revealing what he had. Or he doesn't have the biggest stack, something looking at the stack sizes is possible in which case he can not muck his hand and he is ok, but the game is not over and the bad guy can come back and win

@MightyJabroni hey dude, why have you gone? I would enjoy seeing you explain how casinos that prohibit card counting (like literally ban people for using a good strategy in BJ) is not a robbery & is fair while playing in the underground scene is?
MightyJabroni
MightyJabroni 11 gün önce
@Ivan Dankob "so what you are saying about underground is not necessarily going to happen in any possible scenario" Wrong. Gambling is one of the oldest leisure activities known to men (there were already bets placed during the very first Olympics ever) and will always happen in one shape or another. If you criminalize it, guess who will run it. And guess who will find it much easier to rob gamblers in ways much worse than them having to deal with a house edge. Also, you would lose out on taxes.
Dexter's Beard
Dexter's Beard 11 gün önce
@Ivan Dankob could society exist without gambling? Yes, but a large part of society not participating in gambling on a regular basis is not going to happen in any realistic senario either. What I said has happened in many senarios throughout recent history so I'm not sure how you figure its not a possible senario? It's happened with alcohol prohibition in the 1920s, its happened with prostitution, in this specific situation of gambling its happened in 2 states, in Hawaii Gambling is illegal and people going to illegal gambling houses are dealing with people also dealing drugs and illegal weapons.. Also you being able to ban it isn't realistic either so I don't know why you bring reality into it only when I respond with what qould happen in your fantasy
MightyJabroni
MightyJabroni 11 gün önce
@Ivan Dankob "casino is not a necessary business society needs to wholly function." The same is true for a beer brewery. So I guess let's ban this, too. Because that worked great the last time around. Also, if you reduce everything to what society needs, "to wholly function", you will not be left with much.
Ivan Dankob
Ivan Dankob 11 gün önce
@Dexter's Beard that’s a whole another topic but as I said society can live off without the casino industry, so what you are saying about underground is not necessarily going to happen in any possible scenario

It always bugs me when casinos allow players to calculate odds based on the cards that've been played in poker, but won't allow it in blackjack, when it's the same strategy. Feels a bit dirty to say 'yeah, you can play well when it's against other players, just not when it's against us'.
Space Lapsus
Space Lapsus 17 saatler önce
@Ànradh Official well not really though. In poker you can't really count the cards since the deck is shuffled after each hand. What are you going to count in a poker game? You can only see 7 cards at the most. All you do is speculate on what the other players have based on how they played the hand (and the previous ones).

I played in Atlantic City with a guy, just happened to be at the same table, who went on a solid run, was up almost $1000 playing $25 a hand min. He stopped there, saying he didn't want to win too much of the casino's money at one time. I'm guessing he was a small time counter who kept things moderated to avoid being called out.

There is a lot more people who THINK they can card count than people who actually can. Added to the mix the proliferation of card shuffle machines and 'card counting' isn't such a big problem.

The Blackjack players are doing it across multiple hands, so the difference ends up being more significant than a single round of poker.
Hyphy Juice

It's a fun but dumb game for that reason. Why play blackjack if you can't use your knowledge to help you win? That's like playing a sport and not being allowed to figure out the other teams strategy.

Solid info. I’m a (former) professional poker player, and I’ve also been backed off at every casino in Vegas for card counting in BJ. Their facial recognition tech is sick. It got to the point where I would enter a casino I had never previously visited, sit down at the BJ table, and get backed off after 5 min before I even got started.

If anyone wants to see how a card counting team works, in real life, some students and a professor at MIT created a card counting club and applied what they learned in real casinos in Vegas. At the end, they really did get kicked out of casinos, had their names in black books, there really was disguises involved, and so on. There is a documentary about the entire "MIT card counters" on TRshow here if anyone is interested. I enjoyed it.

John S
John S 29 gün önce
@Bara Robber Baron nobody gave you a definitive answer to this question so here it is: when card counting players will determine when the count is favorable to them. it is at this point in the count that their bet sizes dramatically increase. bad count : bet 20 per hand. good count: bet 150 per hand, or something to that effect. The people in security can over a fairly short period of time watch the players tendencies and monitor the cards being played to see if the betting pattern matches the count. Generally any BJ player who has wide variation in their bet sizing is a red flag that casino security would be watching, most often tipped off by the dealer. ultimately card counting does not guarantee a win, but you'll win more often when it's favorable (and thus why bet sizing needs to be bigger) and losing minimally when the count is not favorable. any one session can be a loss due to the element of chance but if played over a large enough sample size a card counter who is counting accurately will certainly come out well ahead.

@TRshow Account That's not true. They would much rather be guaranteed the same as they make in tips don't be ridiculous. Tipping is mostly an American thing. It's not considered universal or even normal. That said, even though they should be paid properly by employers, since they aren't you should still tip them if you're winning. Same as it's right to tip a waiter, although they too should be guaranteed that salary.

Dealers are paid minimum wage? and he asks his customers who have almost 100% chance to lose all their money, to pay his employees? If that's not a mafia move right there. The boss and corporation make shitload of money by keeping losers and kicking out good players, and the dealer is paid minimum wage. ...that's somehow even worst than what corporations usually do with people who run their business. Because who else than the dealer is the number 1 employee, in a place where people gamble money on a table.

Always love the Hollywood depiction of the Surveillance Rooms. I was fortunate enough to get a tour of one in Atlantic City. It was relatively small, poorly lit, and with just two personnel to watch all the cameras. What was interesting is it had cameras in it also. The Surveillance Division watches the gaming action, but the Security Division watches everything else, including Surveillance. We had to accompanied by a member of the New Jersey State Gaming Commission, just to be in the room.

What a great insight into human behaviour as much as an insight into the gaming industry. The commentator is very articulate. My wife and I spent a total of $100 gambling in Las Vegas and had $1 million worth of fun. We played craps and I still have no idea as to the rules but the fellow running the table was extremely patient with us. We also made instant friends with the other players and I felt like we had known each other for a lifetime. We ended up with about $35 and my wife gave it to the dealer because she said he was such a nice young man. He definitely earned it.

So wait, you can tip the dealers? What's to stop a dealer gifting cards to a tipper then? Here in Aus and NZ, you are expressly NOT allowed to tip ANYONE who comes into contact with any games of chance because it could be seen as trying to buy favour. You might be allowed to tip the bar/wait staff if they aren't involved in the gaming side, but there is no need to because all these people are earning a liveable wage without the need for forced tipping.

Lived in Vegas through the 80's. Fabulous town. Dealt 21, drove a cab, other things. One guy robbed a casino for $20,000 but stayed in town. Just walked up to the cage and demanded money. Security won't make too much of a fuss if it's crowded. (A little secret) The reward was $30,000 and someone turned him in. No, it wasn't me. I can attest to the notion that whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Mostly. Good luck.

Leo's hand wasn't a bad beat. It was a cooler. A bad beat means you got your money in good and the opponent drew out on you. A cooler is a very strong hand that was played correctly but beaten by an even better, improbable hand. Both are unavoidable. Leo's mistake wasn't how he played the hand, it was that he was betting with his entire bankroll.

Fair enough. I was actually ok with the liberties they took to help the average viewer better understand what was going on (like the dealers narration/dialogue and actions). The worst part was the actual poker side of things where it would have been easy to get right (without affecting the viewers ability to understand what’s going on). I mean they didn’t even do the simple math right for how much money is supposed to be in the pot.

It was going to be the last hand of the night in Casino Royale with everyone going all-in, and if this casino guy watched the hand right before this, the dealer just pushes up the winning combo cards. So he was doing everything normally done by dealers even if there was more commentary. But being the last hand of the game, everyone knows what is played.

He might actually know the man, which is hardly impossible, or he might not. But "Mr Potential" actually had zero other reason to make his comment. It's not contributing anything, no interesting story (be it true or false), it's just gathering attention by trying to please the usual highly negative, suspicious, and pessimistic Internet throng you find everywhere. It also doesn't fall within healthy source criticism because the whole thing is totally meaningless and impossible to verify.

Honestly, cheating in a casino is just playing by the same rules as the House plays by, rather than those the House sets down (i.e weighting the odds in your favor no matter what happens on the table). And since they don't saw off or hammer people's hands any more, it has to be a better bet than trying to rob a security car and potentially getting shot.

@barnoldwhv Lol that’s not true. If they know you are a card counter they can ban you and refuse to let you play in the first place. That’s not a scam, that’s a business making a business decision. By and large casinos want people to win, and even win big. It’s good for business long term. It generates excitement and shows people that it is possible despite being unlikely. If a casino were to refuse to pay out, it would not only face legal ramifications it would also gain a bad reputation and lose business in the long term.
