During the summer, we all spend far more time outdoors in the sun. We also tend to become more relaxed in our skincare lifestyle, perhaps not staying consistent with sun protection or our skincare routine, or not wearing clothing that will protect our skin from the sun's UV rays. Dr. Karam is sharing today what we MUST do throughout the summer season to keep our skin healthy and protected all while preventing skin aging. First and foremost, sun protection is an absolute must. As we go through the summer, we sometimes either neglect to put sunscreen on, are using sunscreen that is not sufficient for protecting our skin, or we're failing to reapply as the summer days progress. In order to properly protect our skin, we need to be consistently using an effective sunscreen, and we need to remember to reapply at least every 3 hours during the day. Secondly, we need to be consistently using the appropriate, active skincare ingredients that will hydrate, repair, and nourish our skin. Throughout summer, the most aggressive season for our skin, it is vital that we stay true to a skincare regimen that will feed our skin all the nutrients it desperately needs to stay healthy, glowing and youthful.

Dr Amir, thank you for your advice. At 50 I panicked over my skin. I came to your site to learn about facelifts and immediately decided I’d do it later. In the meantime I’ve started a wonderful skincare routine. After a few months I visited my hometown and was told by my mother, brother, and cousins that I look amazing and haven’t aged. That’s because they didn’t see where I started from. As a dark skinned black woman I also wear sunscreen faithfully in addition to my retinol at night and vitamin c during the day. My skin is more beautiful than it’s ever been!

As a fair to medium person, I used to L-O-V-E tanning. After about 26ish I noticed I couldn't do it without getting extremely dry. I was already on retinoids at that point. Now more than 10 years later I'm just a vampire that relies on self tanner but overall I'm happy with my skin. Cheers!

Turned 50 last year and been to Mexico after 7 years of no beach holidays... I was so burnt and dry for 5 months afterwards...and had 2 huge wrinkles appearing that I never saw before. Now I repaired my skin and wrinkles gone watching some youtube skincare videos, until then never used retinols and never used any active ingredients, just random moisturizer.

I love how you hammer the reality of sun protection. My friends think I’m psycho because I always wear a hat and walk/sit in the shade. I live in San Diego! The most basic way to prevent aging is to prevent damage in the first place.🤯

Here comes another one with that, "I prefer physical sunscreen". Experts have different opinions, different skincare philosophy. So, when it comes to sunscreen, just find one that you like, and apply enough of it on your skin. It's so easy.

Dr.Karam I have really enjoyed watching your videos and great educational advice you give your viewers in “Skin School” .You’re phenomenal!!I have a question I am a 56 year old African American Woman with fairly dark skin and am interested in your vertical restore procedure. I have a tendency to keloid , is there a solution to prevent this from happening if I were to partake in getting this procedure with you ?Do you have any before and after photos of women of color with deep Melanin skin ?I would love to see this. Again thank you so much!! You’re a rockstar!!

I am "doing all the right things" using all the skincare/sunscreen and supplements to avoid hyperpigmentation and in a short time I am starting to see some darkening along my left upper cheeks ( I religiously apply sunscreen and reapply). Any tips on keeping this at bay? I ordered facial patches to place on my sun exposed areas as well as a wide brimmed UPF 50 visor. I am so sad because I really beat it down over the winter :(

Dr Karam, what do you think about the addition of Heliocare? My Derm suggested it and I believe it has helped avoid sunburn. I’m very sun sensitive so I use sunblock daily regardless of whether I’m outside or not. But I like the extra security of heliocare.

As someone from England I’m lying in the sun with hat sunglasses cream etc watching this as we all go bit crazy here when the sun comes out!! Rain most of the time or cold …I’m nearly 47 i try to put sunscreen on more than I use too. I’ve noticed my hands aged the most but put sunscreens on them but feel it’s not enough now.

Sun feels good, looks good on tanned skinned but it has its drawbacks. You must be diligent about sun protection. Mineral based is best. The neck and facial skin are completely different in how they age. It appears easier to reverse aging on the face than the neck. Once the neck is aged most times the only best option is surgery. Also putting perfume on your neck accelerates aging since many perfumes contain oil. The oil literally fries the neck skin. Just say no.

I was a tanning junkie. I live in Florida and I haven't been in the sun for 10 years. My skin is so different now. I even used to go to the beach and then me and my BFF would' go to a Tanning salon after a full day of surfing and being in the sun. She didn't stop and I did and one time a girl in Starbucks thought She was my Mom.

Yup ! On the other hand, it allows you to see if you missed a spot. And even the tinted one would leave a white cast, that would become more relevant as time and/or sweat go by. I applied mine and put SFP make up on top of it. 'Cause I don't have a good eye for make up, I went to M.A.C and Kiko and let the seller pick my shade and textures. I believe a decent result could be achieved with the right technique and products. It's will take time, money and a few stares, but it' will be all worth it !!!

I switched from mineral to chemical sunscreens after getting a scientific UVA meter to test all the sunscreens I have ever tried, and realizing that no mineral based sunscreens can adequately filter out UVA (talking about longwave UVA approaching 375 nm close to 400 nm). US-based chemical screens also do not filter out long UVA adequately. I have been wearing a zinc oxide SPF 30 most of my life, but because of the UVA exposure, i still have hyperpigmentation on my cheeks. My skin also developed a hyper sensitivity to UVA and light. The only sunscreen agent that can filter out the long UVA to a notable degree are Tinsorb S and Tinsorb M and that's what I am now using. If I wear these I don't feel burning when exposed to sun (UVA can come through regular windows so that's also a good tester for UVA exposure). But these ingredients are very chemicaly and only available in overseas sunscreens like korean and japanese products. the chemical names are also very difficult to remember and check for when shopping. Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinsorb S)

Hmm...I've been hearing Vit C applied under sunscreen will provide 2x the sun protection. I apply both to my face and neck. I sunbath outside in shorts for about 15-20 min...am I really doing a lot of damage to the body skin? I never burn doing it this way and go from fair to medium-dark in the warmer months.

I lean towards purchasing mineral sunscreens as well, but it seems that I have the opposite than most- too much zinc irritates my skin! Sunscreens that are heavy on the zinc-oxidize dry out my skin rather to an almost painful extent. It’s bizarre, because isn’t the opposite supposed to happen? I don’t have particularly sensitive skin, and my skin type is normal-oily. I would be interested if anyone else here has encountered this before

If you look at the inactive ingredients of mineral zinc oxide sun cremes they are all chemical. Your skin absorbs them anyway. So you are not avoiding chemicals by using mineral sun screens. I keep hearing how dermatologists want us to reapply every two or three hours. I use a powder sunscreen to reapply, but is that as effective as regular sunscreen? How am I able to reapply cream or regular sunscreen on my face when I already have makeup applied from that morning? I’m not willing to reapply bronzer, and my blush and the look I worked on that morning three times a day too…So what is your suggestion with easily reapplying to maintain my makeup? Thank you!

I had the same problem. I've read that you could simply use your beauty blender, dip it lightly into sunscreen and lightly dab it onto the makeup, repeat until you applied enough sunscreen. Also, I tried to dab it with my bare hands (rub it a little between your palms first) and then lightly dab (works best with no white caste sunscreen of course) Hope this helps :)

Hey, Dr. Amir Karam, I wanna ask you that: Did you do a brow lift [I mean, the lift that makes the upper part of your face (Like your forehead or something) younger, is that called brow lift?] recently or something? Because I think that I can see that the gap between your eyes and brows wider, am I right about that you did a brow lift recently? And btw, is there ANY way that you can prevent from hairline goes backwards if you do a brow lift btw?
DrAmirKaram
DrAmirKaram 4 aylar önce
😂 No I haven't had any procedures done recently or ever. I have used botox before though! While a brow lift primarily focuses on lifting and repositioning the brow area, it does not directly address or prevent hairline recession. Hairline recession can occur due to factors such as genetics, aging, and hormonal changes. However, techniques used during a brow lift procedure can be customized to minimize the impact on the hairline.

Hi how can I get rid of dark circles under eyes
Jocelyn Belle
Jocelyn Belle 4 aylar önce
Usually, when i don't sleep well or enough, the dark circles tend to appear more prominently. Also, when dehydrated There are also some lymphatic massaging techniques for around the eye area (very gentle movements of course) where you can help the lymphatic system transport the "bad stuff" out. Search for these type of videos on TRshow and I hope it helps. Consistency is key though

I went to this Dermatologist and He wanted me to buy this gel like product that was made from male babies foreskins. I went with Retinol. I had no idea that was invented. It was a little bottle with a pump. No thanks.

Right! I think the distinction needs to be made between toxic chemicals and ordinary benign.

Nah, mineral based sunscreens not fav. I'd rather perefer chemical based sunscreens. And there is no difference between them.

What about their Vitamin D?
DrAmirKaram
DrAmirKaram 3 aylar önce
Regular sun exposure to the face, arms, and legs, typically a few times a week for around 10-30 minutes, can help the body produce adequate vitamin D. You often get this anyways in the car or from windows in your home.
