You know I am always looking for a new analog horror series to watch and analyze. I think I may have stumbled upon the SCARIEST one yet! Welcome, Theorists, to _Boisvert. This story is filled with glitches, otherworldly figures, and a terrifying yet relatable theme. Depression. I think this horror series may just be trying to give us the one thing we all need, hope.

The aesthetics and character design! There is a rather mature fighting scene where the cat person ( btw pretty cute guy) fight the hand-centipede, which is just marvelous from the technical perspective.

As someone who was very very close to committing suicide, This is actually amazing. You have to be through the spiral of depression to understand. It was an very, very dark point of my life. Looking back at it now, I felt there was no point in life. I didnt feel bad for myself at all, I felt bad for my family. When I did do it. Yes, I was so close to doing it I felt there was no point or hope, I thought I had an week or two before I'd be dead, But.. That was false and I'm very proud, And happy now.. I'm very glad I didnt let my thoughts swallow me, Just passing on the depression to my family.

There’s something so disheartening about realizing the only reason you haven’t ended it yet is because you fear making your loved ones feel any worse than they would if you were still alive. You don’t care what happens to you, but you can’t bring yourself to put those around you through that. You tell yourself you could do it if no one cared, if you didn’t care, and sometimes your mind can convince yourself that it isn’t worth it to feel anything at all. The most dangerous thing in the world is your own psyche.

I think "When does a home become a complex?" refers to how people with depression spend all of their time in their room, essentially making their room their entire home. With this, leaving the room and going to a different room is essentially like going to a different home, like a housing complex.

Watching this with my wife, who suffered from depression for a long time, it hit us both differently. I saw a pretentious, gratuitously grotesque, unnessisarily dark animation. She saw a tragically beautiful depiction of what it's like to go through and overcome these dark feelings and hopelessness. I think one may have had to go through it, to understand it.
David Solovyev
David Solovyev 15 gün önce
i think in part its because those (myself included) who have experienced the feelings it touches see a reflection of how those feelings felt. when people asked me to explain how i felt when i was at my lowest, i could only produce 'an all-encapsulating darkness.' i think your last sentence is probably correct; i think there are a lot of things that people just cant have a full grasp of without having experienced it, and there's nothing wrong with that, so long as they're aware of that fact.
breatheinjuniper Aylar önce
Yes thank you for saying this. It's taken me a long time to be able to come back to this because of the emotions it pulled from me. It's a very hard-hitting series and oddly comforting.
bloohazze 2 aylar önce
Idk how someone, knowing this piece is about depression, can say it’s ‘too dark’. Depression can make people do some awful things to themselves, it’s common knowledge what could happen, it’s lack of control in one’s own life. With that said what could someone expect out of media with that premise? To ask for something like that, someone’s pain, to be sugarcoated is the real grotesque thing.
Jackson Barker

When I first started watching this, I thought there would be absolutely bone chilling, spine shaking LOOOOORE, but instead I found myself with a video about actual real world stuff and it didn't seem all that scary in the end MatPat, you've accomplished two things: 1) helped possibly millions of people deal with depression and 2) made a super scary series seem docile almost You really do help people MatPat!

Honestly, my cat, the emotional outlet of art, the safe, quiet room of my closet, (when I couldn't deal with family- the same people, same personalities, same narratives, every day...) and my backyard, are some of the only reasons I got through quarantine. My cat, ever since her sister died, shares my social anxiety. But, she's dealing with it, and so am I. She's gotten a lot better at getting along with and being around the other two cats that we have, and though the only living being she truly trusts anymore is me, that's okay. She's doing better, and seeing that... It helps me be better as well.

Hey, done some digging about the origins of the name, "bois vert" and i have actually been following this channel for quite some time aswell, and also loved the Mandella catalouge. I believe this channel is somewhat centred around religion, especially christian/catholic, but in a specific chapter of the bible (John 23.31) they say “For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?" I have done some research and the green wood symbolises the physical holy form of the body of christ. I don't know how this adds to anything lol, but it just seems as though the channel (_Boisvert) is referring to themselves and their videos as the forms of christ. Don't think this helps but i was bored lol.

I think you misread one thing Matpat. He isn’t flailing at the party, he’s showing off some sick dance moves… And nobody cared or noticed. Thus, he becomes too ashamed to interact with people and our story begins. It wasn’t a metaphor, it was a flashback of the inciting incident. Everything else is a metaphor.

I really needed this today. Honestly, my life is going great right now, so it's hard for me to admit that my anxiety is high. Plus, I'm slipping into a depressive episode right now and have spent the last few days feeling like I'm clinging to the edge of a pit. While this can't magically pull me out, it's given me hope that no matter how far I slip, or how long it takes me to regain my strength so I can keep climbing, there will be people who understand. So whether you're in this hole with me, at the bottom, or out entirely, let's all keep climbing.

I’ve suffered with depression for most of my life. Its gotten a lot better, but recently Ive hit another depressive episode. And for me, seeing this video really was uplifting. A lot of us are trapped in our minds, or know the struggle of being trapped there, and for some of us that feeling just never leaves. For me I suffer from anxiety, depression and dissociation. The dissociation especially has been getting worse and Im going to organise councilling for it. I’m optimistic that everything will be ok. I struggle perceiving my own emotions, and reality, heck a lot of the time I can feel my very warmth sapped as I try to feel something other than sheer emptiness. Its scary. But as much as my nihilistic mind tells me otherwise. Im sure there are others just like me. And there are answers. Not necessarily a cure, because these things dont go away. But im optimistic that Ill learn to manage it all. Sorry for the rant everyone. Make sure to ask someone for help, even if it takes talking to a friend about it until you can feel comfortable enough to talk to a professional. As long as you can start to recognise that you’re worth it. Because you are. Each person on this Earth is beautiful and unique and important. And each and every one of us deserves to know that. You dont have to be ok, but it helps to have someone to depend on when you’re low. Youre important.

Honestly this story is genuinely so beautiful, it deals with these topics perfectly, this story has helped me understand depression a lot, watching it made me understand that depression is truly a never ending battle and sometimes the aftermath can be as bad as the actual depression, I'm currently recovering and doing well but the fact that it could come back at any moment terrifies me, however knowing that it's normal is comforting, it makes me feel like I'm not fighting this battle alone, you can ask for help and there are people going through what you're going through, it's ok to fall back into it because no matter what, when and if you do,,, there will always be a way out

As someone who's lived with depression my whole life and agoraphobia for the last few years this hit really hard. It's a horrifying depiction but *it should be* people don't understand how truly debilitating depression can really be. As someone diagnosed with anxiety and depression I can confrim this is 100% accurate. There are good days, bad days, and nightmare days and it doesn't just "Go away." It ebbs and flows and sometimes it's really hard to talk to people about it. If they don't understand what you're going through they try to give you solutions, and when you try and explain that it doesn't work that way they can get confused or upset with you. Having something that explains this for "outsiders" is helpful for those of us who are struggling.

Dude, Matpat; I can't thank you enough for the content warning. I hadn't gotten a good night's sleep, so I wouldn't want to be depressed halfway through the video and therefore for the rest of the day.

I remember watching it in 2020 and showing it to my friend. We both found it creepy, but he kinda found the song distortion funny, so I was less creeped out at that video.

this guy really put too much thought into that channel and you, my lovely matpat, make it look like its easy to understand

I’m a huge chicken and get easily scared but I never really found this one actually scary. Like the Mandela catalog is in the real world and seems like it actually happened, but this just seemed like a critique of the human condition through a somewhat creepy medium

@Kingsly i mean distracting yourself from bad thoughts works but i dont thin it works the same way for everyone...

I’m absolutely terrified of Mandela Catalog, the way regular human faces are twisted into the demented ones just sets me off-

I appreciate it when explained like this....but I feel iffy on watching dark content that makes my skin crawl like this does cuz it somewhat gives me the feeling that I may backslide into those dark feelings by watching it. Boivert thank you for this story, and matpat thanks for translating this into a way I can appreciate it
Jay711 2 aylar önce
The art is to too unique and dark for such a simple reddit like message, I love the artwork to death but it should have gone deeper into the human psych

This series is amazing. An old friend of mine last year unfortunately took their own life. People claimed they were gaslighting others for their depression when really, they were asking for help. If you see someone that needs help, don't stand still and let it slide. Bad things happen to people who stand idle upon the face of unknown.

That was the most accurate depiction of depression I’ve ever seen. It’s nice to know others deal with this too. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention

1 in 4 is the statistic for depression 25% of people have it. You're never alone because there are always people who can relate.

When I've first found that channel, that's what I thought. It's pretty deep and can be sometimes hard to watch because it represents it so well.

7:59 - It has been brought to my attention, MatPat, that I came across something you overlooked: Names for these two particular figures. Puppet God and Dogtooth. Just letting you know because I love this vid and what _ Boisvert is trying to tell us. To prove my point... I just subscribed to your channel. =) But Pessimism and Optimism works too.

I was watching this with my parents sleeping in the living room but then the power went out in the intro of the video. I was bracing for death that moment

As someone who struggles with depression, and has been having a depressive episode these last 2-3 weeks, thank you Matpat. I've never seen those videos, but I see myself in them. I don't have the words to say how much it means to me, how much this video touched me. All I know is that things have so hard and I'm so tired, but I'm trying, and seeing your videos, especially one's like this, make it a little easier. Thank you Matpat.
