Yellowstone - The Breathtaking Beauty of America's First National Park | Wildlife Documentary
Watch 'Gates of the Arctic - America's Most Remote National Park' here: • Gates of the Arct...
Yellowstone National Park is an American national park located in the western United States, largely in the northwest corner of Wyoming and extending into Montana, and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. The park is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful geyser, one of its most popular. While it represents many types of biomes, the subalpine forest is the most abundant. It is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.

Enjoyed every minute of this documentary. The narrator was just right, enough humour and equal sobriety and lovely voice a wonderful story was told. Big thank you to the whole team, especially the script writer. Excellent. Shall now watch again.

I grew up on the Idaho side of the Grand Tetons just outside the West Yellowstone entrance. This video is amazing and really shows the beauty of the park but if you can ever visit in person you should. Every time I visit I leave realizing that I need to take life less seriously and enjoy and appreciate the things I have.

Last year when i visited YS, I lived on Idaho side. I was obsessed with all the mountains around the highway. As a person living in the city, it was an unforgettable experience.

Another Park I've been to, and again, your intimae photography of the interactions these animals have with each other are far more focused than any sporting game😀I have now watched three of these, and am really grateful for such intelligent, artistically, and music etc. to seduce us into realizing how marvelous life is, and how little we know and appreciate.

Made the drive out to Yellowstone with a buddy of mine all the way from Chicago… took lots of pics and took in the beautiful sights and nature it offers. It is definitely a must visit before you die. Also Grand Teton is super beautiful as well. Not to mention all the neat small towns on the way to Yellowstone .

The wolf-bear dynamic at c.24 minutes in was VERY interesting. The bear mother reckoned her cubs were safe enough to lead them in and was more hostile to the male bear than the wolves, who themselves hung around reckoning the bears would leave enough to be worth their while staying. Neither will kill the other over a meal, the wolves might try an easy kill of a bear cub but when the stakes grow too high, they fold and quit the table -not cowardice, just prudence. Hunting is not fighting; it's food provision, any sign of a fight and they hedge their bets to look elsewhere. You may wonder who'd win a fight to the death between a grizzly and whatever-number of wolves; but the wolves or bears wouldn't want to know.

That little calf was so lucky his momma found him in that vast wilderness just in time. That will surely shape the type of bison bull he will become. He's already persevered when all was lost.

@Ma Wi You can be sure that the balance of predators and prey, grazers and grazing land is observed for reasonable balance. This, and what you've seen, are hard to watch, but it's how nonhuman nature is. There are only these few patches of nature in balance in this huge country. Whatever animals originally lived there are being restored (unless extinct), including wolves. Obviously, I haven't seen what you have though. I'm hoping that many of the elk calves do survive....

I think what it means is that its three months old and still nursing, but cougar kittens start to develop a taste for meat (from already killed mammals) when they're six weeks. Doesn't mean they're eating it yet, but its like when they start to get weaned off of their mothers milk

Was the mother bison finding her calf real or set up? Earlier we're told she gave up hope and instinctively moved on with the herd. Does she then go against this "overpowering" instinct to search downstream for her calf? Would a bison have the intelligence to conduct such a search? I want to believe it's truly what happened but it seems so unlikely. Was it just dumb luck? Why would she break away from the herd, when that's against her instinct and extremely dangerous even for an adult? Great documentary but this mother rescues baby scenario raised some doubts, sorry.
morningstar
morningstar 10 aylar önce
@Sea OC Interesting to hear an eyewitness account of this kind of thing taking place. Makes me believe this filmed event was not staged. Perhaps as you say it wasn't the calf's mother but just a random bison coming to the rescue. Maybe it was the mother, moving in the general direction of the herd downstream and she got lucky. Still, for her to be there right at the time of the wolf attack and the camera crew to be on the scene is a lot of happy co-incidences. Maybe the crew were monitoring the calf and maybe the bison heard it bleating. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt down to your having seen something similar. Thanks for replying and enjoy your day.
Sea OC
Sea OC 10 aylar önce
it is extremely unlikely for them to find a cub that's been dragged away or gotten lost, but it's not impossible. I grew up about 30 minutes from the park and actually saw a similar thing at one point when I was about 12. It's probably a mix of dumb luck as well as instinct. Bison often travel downstream, so it was probably luck she got there when she did as the herd moved, and obviously luck at the exact point she showed up when the wolf was there. But they're also extremely loyal and very herd oriented creatures that work together, so even if it hadn't been her mother other mothers will often defend young calves from wolves (especially just a singular wolf) if necessary.
