As a fan of all billiard sports, I love seeing this! Like others said, it will be interesting to see Judd against higher skill opponents. Also a thought.. I was surprised Judd used an American cue as well. When Ronnie played away from snooker, he kept using his snooker cue. :D I love seeing players testing themselves!

@SethH88 intentionally, yeah, it’s called ‘ranking’ them or ‘seeding’, the best players. The best gets a no 1, and can’t play no 2 til the final in theory, can’t play no 3 til the semifinals etc. Rankings in knockout sports have to be 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64… to work as intended.

Love to watch Judd playing in pool tournament! He is always incredible
paul green3 aylar önce
@TheNuggzt3r I agree, they are 2 different games, Judd didn't play well at the snooker world championships, but still made the final, if he left snooker and went to play pool for a few years he might get near the top level, but he has a lot to achieve in snooker, including winning more world championships, on his day he can pot balls on a snooker table for fun
TheNuggzt3r7 aylar önce
@Cricket England But it still takes time to adapt. The skill of snooker players is on another level but it's not enough to counter the experience of a great pool player. I'd love to see what Trump can do on a pool table if he keeps on practicing!

@andy That’s nonsense, if you review your losses, you can learn from mistakes made, learn areas you need to work on to win next time. If you‘d never lost (or came very close to it), have you really ever been challenged? Also, no one starts off an expert in, sports for example, name someone who has never lost, you grow and learn as you move up in leagues, levels, age, whatever. What about learning you need to work harder so as not to lose? Very naive if you think you can’t learn from losing, you should be learning every time you compete- win lose or draw.

Yes great to see yet another snooker player playing this type of pocket billiards and my goodness can he play! And I must say on first impression Judd is as fast a player as the Tornado Tony Drago who himself has taken to to the game like a duck to water. So there are other well known snooker players that have played 9 ball to but Tony is by far as I know plays only 9 ball these days. The only other snooker players I know who play 9 ball are Steve Davis, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Jimmy White and the late great Alex Higgins. Alex also had Jimmy as a doubles partner on a few occasions and with explosive results with mind blowing shots! Steve was more famous for "Straight pool " beating the best of the best and Ronny had his own TV program playing pool all over America and lastly Mark Selby played a lot of English pool. Check this out and tell what you all think of Alex with Jimmy verses the famous Mike Massey and Bobby Hunter in their debut's trshow.info/watch/W7xiae-32rM/video.html

Props to the commentators on this one, I don't watch pool but I just couldn't refuse clicking on this for Judd's debut. /Spoilers/ Shame he got rolled just after this but it still shows how good of an athlete he is, making such a debut when you haven't played the game before professionally. We expected this much from one of the greatest snooker players ever but I feel Magee was just trying his luck with this open cup, he has no registry of ever being a professional player and I am sure some of us are capable of beating him in a real easy manner. Still, tho, he played through and we can cut some slack when you play against someone of Judd's caliber.

When I comes to Shooting Pool there will probably never be another Eferen Reyes the man is Incredible
hamoostaffat2 aylar önce
Trump could catch up quick tbf, he has Almost a quarter of the titles Reyes has in a fraction of the time already, be interesting to see how many pool titles he can claim down the road on top of the snooker ones It's just a shame most pool players don't go the other way, (it's a lot easier going from snooker to pool) it would have been good to see the likes of Strickland and Reyes take on the big snooker tournaments over this side of the 'pond'

Phillip Chadwick10 aylar önce
@auto98 Thankyou so much, that was absolutely superb. I enjoyed that almost as much as RO'S! Without question the best cueman I've ever seen. In 1999 to 2000 my business partner and I were given US $1m and a year to write a business plan. Locked away in a farmhouse with a pool table (UK pub 8 ball). We played 3 or 4 hours a day every day. My partner was already as fantastic player, but after a year he was stratospheric. Breaking and clearing up at least once a day. I got so I could pot 2 balls never a 3rd, but adore the game. My partner shares a very close friend with S Hendry, but as far as I know they've never met across the pub baise... Anyway thank you so much for that, very kind of you, and a joy to watch. Best regards P

Top players aren't going to give Judd as many opportunities to get in rhythm like Magee did. He looks pretty good though no lie.
mon opinion10 aylar önce
@The Intergalactic Transdimension Pizza Delivery Servicewrong spin ? I thing he misjudged the shot, and scratched but what do you mean wrong spin ? It depends on the angle he had he could have been playing right spin with a little bit of high to avoid the middle pocket for 3 rails or low left to avoid the middle pocket. But believe it has nothing to do with wrong spin... Anyway Judd tried competitive pool he was ok for a pro i hope he will do it again. He can only get better at it with his skills.
The Intergalactic Transdimension Pizza Delivery Service10 aylar önce
@mon opinion I think he played really bad not showing much ball control, using the wrong spin @5:40 caused him to scratch and lose the first match. To be fair Judd also played very defensively not giving McGee any room to breath when possible. But what else to be expected from #2 Snooker player? Just kind of a wasted opportunity to see him face someone more skilled.
Khurram Ali10 aylar önce
Judd can raise him game to ridiculously exceptional levels.
mon opinion10 aylar önce
@Why So Salty that's just an impression believe me. If you are a good really good amateur player lets say aaa or semi pro you should know that the biggest gap in skill is actually between semi pros and pros. He is playing that bad just because he could not handel the pressure, knowing who judd trump is and knowing what he is capable of. But if any pro plays against you believe me you will be consistently struggling to win one or 2 racks in a best of 11
Why So Salty10 aylar önce
Magee literally played so bad you or I could have won this match tbh

Great to see Judd playing pool. Worst thing about the match was watching Joe. Felt sorry for him really, couldn't handle the pressure.
Machete Moonlight5 aylar önce
@B Not only that, it's most likely 100% untrue. A guy can have a bad day, especially when he's playing a pressure match against one of the top Snooker players in the world.
Ed Leifer7 aylar önce
@LudosErgoSum Does not excuse the level of some of Joe's misses, which were to put it mildly inexcusable. It looked like he was completely out of his comfort zone and his stroke was all over the place.
Uh Oh8 aylar önce
@Philip Haycock Looked to me like he already knew his fate. Therefore his game went to pot. If he played judd 1000 times he’d lose 1000 times
Florian Kastner10 aylar önce
@LudosErgoSum thats true. Joe realized that he faced a day, his oponent could play blindfolded with on hand tied to his back and still pots every ball.

Who ever thought of putting up the footage of trump has hit gold, I can promise you, it's going to get soooo many views and also show the pool guys why he's consider one of the best cue spots plays (not just snooker) of all time...period... Same as mark Selby, former pool WC and multi time snooker WC...it says so much about how good snooker plays an pool plays are but being at the top in snooker means you can just walk into pool an be considered on of the top, because snooker is a harder game which means your technique just has to be better, making the game so much easier for them, especially when it comes to just walking around potting balls lol Anyway just trying to say what a brilliant idea to get trump involved.

Peter Swindley5 aylar önce
It does show, though, everyone has their specialism. Trump missed a good number of shots here that he wouldn’t have dreamed of missing on a 12x6 table. It took him time to adapt, even though difference was that the game is much easier.

@TheNuggzt3r there's also the legs, the leg on the same side as the arm you hold the cue should be straight and the foot pointing in the direction of the shot, while the other leg bends a little. Mcgee's legs stay to the side of the cue, really ugly stance
TheNuggzt3r3 aylar önce
@Robert Casey Thank you! Always looking for things to improve my stroke.
Robert Casey3 aylar önce
@TheNuggzt3r look how low Judd gets when taking his shots, his cue is nice & flat, parallel to the table. judds back hand comes through the shot nice & straight. by comparison, Joe barely bends down, so his cue is angled down into the table

Bromar Vids10 aylar önce
Funny how the commentator was basically saying he needs to learn the angles, but ended up missing 2 shots. The discipline in snooker makes for a vicious potter. Look at mgees posture and cueing technique, i see better in the pub.

It’s crazy that snooker is settled over first to 18 sometimes where you might need to pot 30 balls in a frame, this round you could pot 9 balls and get through to the next round. Does seem to favour luck more than skill with a really short format
Boterham met Pindakaas & Hagelslag6 aylar önce
@Jimmy Jones You're basically giving confirmation to OP's statement. Playing pool and getting run out after run out, is not a matter of pure skill. In pool it's all about the breakoff and not giving your opponent chances. Potting is easy. I would like to see Shaw try playing snooker. I doubt he'll even be able to succesfully pot 5 balls in a row.
Jimmy Jones9 aylar önce
@Poolmaster gav Many pool tournaments have alternating break.. like the World 10 Ball Championship for example.. and one player who keeps the other one in his chair for 10 racks straight is a monsterous achievement... how can you not deserve that when you play brilliantly well? You're making up silly excuses.. Shaw gave Trump chances but he just blew them..
Poolmaster gav9 aylar önce
@Jimmy Jones Trump sat in his chair for 10 racks because pool is a stupid game which allows winner breaks. It's one of those sports which you can literally be powerless to do anything to get a result. Snooker, alternate breaks so good safety gives us chance to win a frame. Darts, alternate throw so you can win by throwing out first. If it was alternate breaks it wouldn't be that result.
Jimmy Jones9 aylar önce
@Elevated Elevation Nah.. I'm chill. Somebody needs to put snooker fanboys back in their place. Pool is easier, but cannot be played at a top level without many years of practise! A cocky snooker player without proper experience in the pool game will lose to a pool pro... and that's exactly what happened!
Elevated Elevation9 aylar önce
@Jimmy Jones Mate you are letting people get to you lol, chill a bit.

DruMcDoo8 aylar önce
The legendary cricketer Donald Bradman became brilliant because he used to practice cricket playing with a stump and a golf ball. Because snooker is played with large tables and small holes it's almost as easy for a snooker player to win a game of pool as it is for a pro golfer to win a crazy golf tournament!
Bolt Aurelius6 aylar önce
Quite a lot of sportsmen use this technique of practicing with a smaller version of their sport to give them an edge. Eg. Michael Phelps would practice the butterfly in a paddling pool.
Piyyushhh6 aylar önce
44:54 wow! that was pretty hard shot ngl
Mike J.7 aylar önce
Some of the Brits need to realize that in pool, only the top players are full-time pros. There's no money in pool past the first twenty or thirty places in the rankings. In the early 2010s a friend of mine was friends with the guy who ranked 27th, and he told me the guy had to drive to tournaments and sleep in his car. Most pool tournaments have lots of part time players, amateurs, former pros who have stepped away from the game full time, etc. My friend for instance is a 60+ year old rare book dealer and yet he plays in the pro tournaments that are local to him. I don't know who Joe is but I haven't seen him in a match before. With that said it's just lovely watching Judd on a pool table. He's got such a gorgeous stroke and his long shots are so pure.
El Duderino9 aylar önce
An excellent chance for Judd to get some practice in... I think it was sporting of McGhee to just concede at the end.
Arthurp3 aylar önce
Must be another cultural difference between pool and snooker - in snooker it's considered bad etiquette to concede when the other player is at the table. I think you could see Trump didn't quite understand what was happening when he stood up to shake his hand as he was about to play his shot. Is that kind of concession a common thing in pool?
