"I could be dead right now, there is no other way to put it"
When 17 year old Ashley Reeves doesn’t arrive home before her curfew in April 2006, her mom knows something is wrong, especially after finding hundreds of incoming calls on her daughter’s phone records. No one knows where she could have gone, but the harassing caller would end up breaking the case entirely, and shed a whole new light on a neighborhood figure no one ever suspected, all while Ashley fights for her life, while her killer goes line dancing minutes after the murder.

No teacher should just be “hanging out” with and privately texting/calling students outside of school. The fact that everyone just thought that behavior was fine makes no sense to me. Like why were parents aware of these relationships with young girls and doing nothing about it?

@barneyronnie that’s not the same thing at all. These students were underage and these messages/hangouts were private/secret. I’m not sure why you even attempted to draw a comparison to your situation to one that is clearly nefarious in nature. Unless you are attempting to say that the behavior I described that was present in this case is normal and not grounds for any suspicion.

@barneyronnie Why is my opinion sad? That hurts my feelings and I might cry tonight. Anyhoo, many professors play these games. Feynman tore through numerous students, if a specific example is needed. He might have been an exception genius, but he was a very normal professor.

Hopefully one day they’ll learn. It seems like law enforcement would use a lot less resources just looking into a missing person while there’s still time, versus the resources it takes to handle a murder investigation.

Kids watching this: Do not make friends with adults/teachers. They're after something, most likely sex. If you feel like you are being groomed, tell somebody, a parent or another teacher. Always audio record or video record your interaction with someone you may feel that is being aggressive towards you.

@Chicken Nuggets but what does a 26 year old man have business hanging out with a minor. And I remember being 17 I would have never been able to identify if he had bad intentions or not if I had a handsome man be charming to me as a 17 year old I would have let it go over my head. Being 24 now I don’t understand how a 26 year old would even want to be friends with even a 19 year old

I heard about this story on another channel that went into the gruesome details and it was absolutely BRUTAL . The fact that she is alive is seriously a miracle, she is one strong soul and I'm glad she has no recollect of the attack. But it bothers me that because she had such a strong will to live, he didn't end up getting life. His intention was to kill her, he thought she was dead when he left her there. He 100% should have gotten life. 20 years is crazy light for what he did. And the lack of remorse he felt by dumping her body in the woods and going DANCING afterwards! True monster. He should never be allowed back into society. *EDIT: The channel that I heard this video on was MrBallen . So many laws and sentencing lengths are completely messed up, especially when compared side by side. This is one of them, because they "sucked" at murdering someone it doesn't carry near as much weight? ....in my mind, the intention was exactly the same, to kill this poor girl. The fact she escaped with her life should be her success and victory alone. Not somehow a benefit to the aggressor's sentencing. It makes so little sense.

She was 17 years old.. *17* ! Preyed upon by a teacher. She should hold absolutely NO blame whatsoever on anything that happened to her. She didn’t lead him on, she was in a loving, serious long term relationship, she genuinely & innocently thought he was a ‘good friend’ & that’s exactly how these predators start out; they’re charismatic, friendly, complimentary, act like ‘one of your buddies’ & how ‘it’s all got to be on the hush’ due to his job, & when they’ve got their victims where they want them (trusting), they go in for the pounce, & when they’re rejected.. their ego gets hit. It breaks my heart she ever questioned ‘that she did anything wrong’ to trigger that attack, & as for that interviewer asking if she saw ‘red flags’ - she was 17 for goodness sakes! But what a fighter! She’s shown him, that’s for sure! She’s made the most remarkable recovery, & gone on to not only fulfil her dreams, but to become a mummy twice over. Amazing young woman 💗 Thank you for sharing her story x

The officer who took the call let something slip. He admitted that depending on the fear in the callers voice determines how serious they take the call. He admits it at 2:40. This is why there are so many who might of been saved if the police would of just taken the calls seriously the first time. Had he decided not to take the mom seriously Michelle most likely would of died like so many others did.

My guess was because it was a small town (I think), it's more socially accepted for everyone to spend more time around each other. And from the sounds of the interview, the mom didn't know the extent of their contact because the younger sister discovered all the calls from him only after her disappearance. So I think part of their interaction was hidden from the Mom and what the Mom witnessed was like a small-town friendship of sorts. Also, people with these tendencies tend to be skilled at deceiving people around them and gaining their trust.

The teacher has a very defensive tone while being interrogated. Unlike the boyfriend who had a very calm, cool tone. The boyfriend was also visibility upset about his missing girlfriend. The teacher looks nervous and agitated, and he was also pacing furiously whole nervously rubbing his chin. The difference in body language says a lot.

He knew she loved HIM, not the teacher. The boyfriend and Ashley were on the same wavelength and he was confident in her love for him, and knew that she wasn't doing anything behind his back. She described it as a very serious relationship. He was naive though, and if he'd been even a bit more worldly he would have probably said to her, you probably should watch out for this teacher and not allow him to call you like this, and not hang out with him.

I have to say this is such a great format for true crime content! It feels so much more respectful of the victims and the survivors to have the story be told by them and to not go into excruciating detail about the assaults. Amazing Ashley. I remember (I live in Brussels) when one of my three daughters told me she received a message from a teacher at secondary school via facebook. I asked her why facebook? There are so many other avenues to communicate such as smartschool. Next day i went to the school and demanded explicitely and forcefully that no teacher ever contact my teenage kids again via social media.

Still watching, but amazing how the timing on this took place, between his confession after so many hours, actually deciding to lead them to her body, and her being found still alive. What a strong girl, being able to hold on for so long!!! Can't wait to see what happens next!

It seems extremely inappropriate of a grown man, especially a teacher, to be keeping contact with a teen girl outside of school. Why are the parents & her boyfriend comfortable with this? I'm so glad that she survived, and has been able to heal & start life anew. My heart goes out to her & her loved ones.♥️

it’s so easy for predatory teachers to manipulate students, that’s why adults need to make sure we educate minors on what isn’t appropriate and that a teacher wanting anything more than a professional relationship isn’t a compliment :(

the interrogation to get sam to confess was honestly very skillful. i tend to not trust officers -- there are far too many cases of cruel actions for me to trust the institution -- but the officer who was using a personal connection and gentle words to get a believed killer to confess was brilliant and obviously effective. if we had a system of interrogation that focused on that, we'd have a much better one.

Thank you for another amazing survivor story! That man is so strange and goes after young vulnerable high school minors bc he's too much of a coward for someone his own age. He doesn't deserve to ever be set free because you know he's going to do it all over again, that's the kind of person he is. I hope Ashley continues to live strong! Her words of wisdom were very inspiring

Prob my new favorite true crime channel. The narration is usually what gets me with most of the true crime channels. They're usually either too animated or dramatic, or too drab or monotone. This one is just right, and the way the videos are put together is very well done. Awesome job!

@Sugar hiccup the keyword is "socially." it's extremely inappropriate for a teacher to be interacting with a student outside of a teaching and guiding capacity. once they start to stray from that, it's a huge red flag.

i just wanted to say how much i appreciate your channel! there are only so many true crime stories you can hear about before it begins to have a serious effect on your psyche. just listening to the countless people who lost their lives at the hands of these horrible human beings is incredibly depressing and rage-inducing. don't get me wrong, these stories also depress and anger me - the fact that anyone is subjected to this kind of behaviour is sickening to say the least - but the difference with your channel is that you share stories where victims become survivors! the ending is a happy one, something that offers hope and inspiration. that maybe these monstrous criminals aren't nearly as charming or clever as the media often makes them out to be, and that we're more resilient than we give ourselves credit for. thanks for everything y'all do!

You’d think not being able to remember such a traumatic experience would be a good thing. But for me it’s been a nightmare. Took me almost two years just to accept the fact I will never know. My heart goes out to her. She does have his confession to tell her his view of it. For some reason the not knowing what the terror actually was is even more terrifying. Predators are evil.

Very impressed with your work, Unseen! Love your style of lying out the facts, but not so desperate to include the horrible parts that we really don't need to help understand anyway. There was a time when *IF* you told the story well enough, there was no need for the gore and horror, and out of respect to the victims you don't go there-love it!!! Thank you for doing what you do and showing these incredible inspirations who deserve their story told! Great work and subbed!

It's sad to me that so many parents and this girls mommdidnt recognize the red flags. I dint blame a niave teen for not being able to imagine what he was capable of but adults should know better than a coach hanging out one on one with girl students. It's amazing to me how trusting some people are. I barely even trust my own shadow to not stab me in the back.

I'm glad she survived this is exactly why parents should be mindful of their kids relationships... theres a lot of these sickos in the school systems just because they work for a school doesnt make them trustworthy if this man had been 55 years old and not very attractive they would've thought it something was up with the calling and texting but because he was "decent looking" and young they just assumed he was just being a friend... never trust strange men around your child no matter where they work or how they look ever.
