Well I've been refinishing furniture for a long long time and always thought my work was good and it was a piece left my shop looking alot better than when it came in but after watching your videos and studying them hard I realized my work could be a lot better and because of you it is I have taken my work to the next level I have learned to pay attention to detail the small stuff I don't release something any more untill it is at the next level and the best it can be so I thank you for making these videos and I also will try to teach Others to learn the craftsman ship to keep antiques around for years and years to come

I think that cone and washer combination was deliberate. I've had a lot of experience with old mirrors that used a washer on each side. There are only two ways they can be adjusted: so tight that something will break if you try to tilt the mirror, and so loose that no matter where you tilt it, it will go back to it's natural repose position. But with a cone on one side, you have a controlled friction clamp arrangement, and you can get the happy medium where you can adjust the mirror and it will hold its position.

That is one of the best looking finishes I think you have done yet. It turned out absolutely beautiful.

I love that there's still a very small hint of the stain still on the mirror stand. It's part of its story, its history; so it should still have a small presence. Have you started signing and dating the pieces you refinish? You're part of their history as well. Many pieces would end up in a scrap heap, if it weren't for your special talents, that bring them back to life. They deserve your mark, and those in the future deserve to know you saved them.

Chatoyance, a great new word for me! Looked it up, of course. It means changeable reflected bands of light caused by alignment of the fibers in the object. Usually referring to gems such as tiger eye or star sapphire. Thanks Tom!

Too notch job as always! On 31:21 I was surprised to see the top mahogany veneer was broken off around dowels and stayed attached to the mirror frame supporting pillars (presumably!) kinda odd to see veneer preferring to stay attached to end grain rather than face grain 🙂 yet I bet you had them at the end of the pillars anyway and they “went back right to where they belonged” (notice how I used your rhetorical style😁?!) I became I love with this looking glass set 💗

What a beautiful mirror. It's amazing what a difference just a good cleaning already made. I regularly use oxalic acid to remove stains and it really is an amazing product. Looing pretty good, as usual 🙂😍

What a difference! The finished mirror is a beautiful antique that anyone would be proud to have on their dressing table, but it could so easily have been overlooked and perhaps even discarded before you worked your magic.
