Edit: I'm still reading into this and get contradicting information :( Make shure you heat lentils long enough. Raw or undercooked lentils contain phasin. Although red lentils seem cooked easily, getting rid of phasin takes time.

You know what I love about this vegan recipe? This doesn't try to "imitate" meat. It just takes the ingredients and tries to make them as tasty as they can be without trying to be as tasty as something else is. This is how vegan dishes should be.

Yes I agree. Im an omnivore and still eat some meat but our son is a vegetarian so we have many vegetarian meals. And every time I got something that was trying to be meat like Boca burgers or Chik'n... GROSS. So I stopped doing that. A good product btw is Morningstar Farms black bean chipotle burgers. Theyre really tasty and arent trying to taste like a beef burger. Some cheese, tomato, a good bun... we have those about once a week. Tofurkey? PASS.

@@suchabadkitty1293 Ah, so you still pay for the enslavement, exploitation, abuse and murder of defenseless animals for you, when you can easily eat something else. Since we're all against animal abuse, perhaps it's time to start living in alignment with our own beliefs of being nonviolent towards others.

Yes, after transitioning most don’t necessarily want a meat flavor (it’s mainly the salt spices herbs that give the poor beings’ cooked flesh flavor anyway)

Thats how most indian food is as 40% of Indians are vegetarians and we dont want veg food to taste anything like meat. And it tastes lot better than simulated meats.

This is the most helpful comment section I’ve ever read on TRshow. They are definitely worth reading before making this recipe. Placing the mixture in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before frying and making sure the pan and oil is hot enough seems to be the most common suggestion to make them easier to flip. A lot of people mixed in a small amount of flour or chia seed gel as a binder. There are several people suggesting additional spice variations for flavor. Someone mentioned wrapping them into a tortilla and adding sandwich fixings (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, avocado or whatever you prefer) and condiments or sauces. Another person put them on top of pasta and added pasta sauce. Wow!! Thanks for sharing. It’s great to see everyone contributing.

These are so delicious and relatively easy to do. But, since we are not vegans, I added 2 eggs and they stuck together perfectly. Everyone loved them and they were literally gone in about 30 mins, between my husband and myself. We shared 1 with a friend, but that is all he got. LOL Thankfully, he had a dinner to go to, so he didn't want much, but he loved it.

These look delicious and I'm certainly going to try them, but as someone who's been making veggie patties for years I find that the insides are soft and squishy if you just cook them in the frypan. Brown them in hot oil as shown, but if you want them truly firm, pop them in a pre-heated oven on 180 deg Celcius (350 F) for 15-20 minutes and they'll be absolutely perfect.

I have had trouble with lentil patties/burgers falling apart when they hit the pan or when I flip them, even if I add a bit of binder like breadcrumbs. I solved this by letting the formed, uncooked patties rest in the fridge for maybe 30 minutes. It definitely helps keep them from disintegrating when they hit the hot oil.

Use chia seeds, place them in very warm water and let sit, it will turn into a gelatinous consistency and this will help as a binder. Also, do not fry them. You can coat them with avocado oil and bake them which is much healthier 🙏🏼💜

I made a half batch of these yesterday and my wife and I were very surprised how well these hold together. These would be excellent on a brioche with lettuce, tomato, sprouts and a thin slice of onion. We ate them as you did, with a dipping sauce. These would be good with cilantro and celery in them as well. Spice them up any style you wish, but these are a winner! Thank you.

Thank you for this recipe. I made it today and followed the recipe. I fried it till it was much darker in color. Otherwise, they couldn't be flipped to the other side. For others who are thinking about making it, this recipe is mild in flavor, so you can add your own seasoning to it, make it indian or other way. I divided the batch into the original recipe and second batch into indian style with these ground seasonings: cumin, coriander, cayenne, clove, tumeric, cinnamon, and more salt and pepper. Overall, successful recipe.

@vikasarman

@natashajain9086 Chia seeds absorb all water. It's impossible to separate it. Mix it and add to the mix with confidence. As I'm vegan for 10 years, I learned many tricks bit by bit. I use chia seeds instead of eggs in any patty mix, pie, hotcakes mixes or dough, etc 1 egg = 1Tsp chia soaked in 1/4cup water for 20min aprox. Cooking and eating healthy is the best! Once you get your first dishes right, you'll love the feeling! Best of all on this wonderful journey of learning to love your body!

Excellent thanks for the recipe. The key to the patties not falling apart when you cook them is to use soaked split lentils and beans. Never cook them beforehand or use canned lentils or beans. It's the same principle as when makeg falafel. Never use cooked chick peas and or fava beans. Soak them for a day or so and use the food processor to grind them up with other required ingredients. Never fails.

These are really tasty. I'm not vegan so I bind mine with beaten egg and don't suffer 'falling apart' problems, but for those who are struggling with this, have you tried aquafaba? (The liquid in which legumes have been cooked, or the fluid from canned legumes, including lentils,) as a binder. It's often used in vegan dishes as an egg replacement and usually works quite well. It's also available commercially (but not cheap), as a powder.
@WeCookVegan
@WeCookVegan 11 gün önce
👋 Hello Miss Merrily and welcome! 🌷 Thank you so much for watching and sharing your feedback and info about using aquafaba! It's a very good idea although you do not need any binder in this recipe. If you place the mixture in to the fridge for 30-60 minutes it works miracles and the patties will hold together perfectly. It is important no to over mash or over blend the mixture too. I use aquafaba for other recipe and never thought of using it for this one, so thank you for sharing your idea! 🙏 👍 Sending you my best wishes! 🌞 😊 💖

I was thinking a little ground flax seed mixed into the liquids added--adding too A1 or vegan Worcestershire sauce plus maybe some liquid smoke and Texas Pete or Encona hot sauce (I don't use garlic/onion or oils in cooking so might try to bake or just put a little water in a pan to fry them)--they look very tasty, thank you!@@WeCookVegan

I've tried it - it's better than nothing, but it's definitely not as good as eggs. The chickpea-veggie patties (very similar to the recipe in this video) I made fell apart 😕, I ended up being able to substitute up to half the eggs the recipe called for with aquafaba before they became structurally unsound but did still have to use eggs in the end.

These are great! I used a Vitamix (with wand) and it worked well. I substituted tomato paste and a splash of water for tomato purée because that is what I had on hand. I may add more spices next time, or try basil, cilantro, dill, or different herbs. For folks who are saying you have trouble with them falling apart, maybe make sure the pan/oil is hot enough? My first one stuck to the pan a bit too, but I turned it up a bit (just over medium for my range) and the subsequent patties turned out well.

I accidentally blended mine too much, so it became more like a thick dip. But it still worked to make more pancake like things! I just made these tonight for the first time, and they are DELICIOUS! The flavor layers are subtle, but complementary. Just...YUM! I was so worried about them falling apart as others mentioned, but I patted them as the person in the video does from hand-to-hand and it seems to have "compacted" them (also, could be beginner's luck--LOL). They stayed together. Woohoo! I made a garlic aioli with Greek yogurt to go with them, and...NEXT LEVEL! I think the leftovers will recrisp really well in the air fryer. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

After reading the comments, adding chia seeds, chick or oat flour to help them stay together are great ideas!! And i would be adding nutritional yeast for added nutrition. I was also thinking I could use my old "meatloaf" flavorings to make it like an old favorite. We used to make the meatloaf and cook them into patties sometimes, we called them poor mans steaks.. Enjoy.. cant wait to try these recipeis.

While i do these recipes often as side dish along with rice and lentil soup combination, I would recommend steaming these in lightly greased shallow bowls. You can also ferment the lentil paste so that bubbles get trapped while getting cooked. You can also temper the batter using curry leaves and mustard seeds.

i made these tonight. while the flavor was very good, i don't think i realized how important the soaking part was (specifically, covering the lentils with 2 inches of water) because they were very crunchy. i'll try again sometime soon, because the flavor is worth getting these right!
@WeCookVegan
@WeCookVegan 2 aylar önce
Hello peculiar star! Thank you so much for watching and your feedback! Yes, you are absolutely right, lentils needs to be soaked properly. The soaking time also depends on lentils type. The lentils I used for this recipe are red split lentils and they are perfectly soaked in 2 hours, for some lentils you need more time. You can soak them for 4-5 hours or overnight. Soaking also improves lentils digestion and significantly reduces its cooking time. Hope you get it right next time! Sending you my best wishes! 🌞 😊 💖

Good comment, James! I never get why soooooooo many vegan or vegetarian recipes insist on focusing on making food that "tastes just like meat." Impossible burger, indeed. Nothing like lots and lots of processing and genetic modification to try to make your fake food taste like what it isn't. @@WeCookVegan Putting everything into the food processor now, in fact. Looking forward to them! Editing to say that wow, these are really delicious. To be honest, I was skeptical about them once I processed everything because I think I over-processed them a little too much. The mixture was thinner than I think it should have been. But I put the mixture into the fridge for about 1/2 hour and that helped some. However, it was still too 'gooey' to form into patties with my hands. So what I did, once the oil was nice and hot, was drop the mixture into the pan by large spoonfuls and then used the spoon to form them into patties. And it worked! They crisped up nicely and came out firm and delicious. I'm enjoying these and will definitely make again.

👋 Hello Paulo! Thank you for your comment and watching my video! Lentils are fully cooked by soaking them for at least 2 hours (you can soak them overnight if your cooking planning is good) and then you fry patties for 4-7 minutes on each side with the pan lid on. Please note the following: ✅Fact 1: Soaking lentils improves digestion and nutrition absorption as it neutralise lectins and phytates. ✅Fact 2: Soaking lentils also reduces its cooking time. Hope it makes sense. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Have a nice day!

Made the lentil patties and they formed well, cooked perfect. But needed more spice for my tastes. Second batch I added cumin and 1/4 tsp cayenne...better. Has potential, thank you. Question though, is that dip you plunged the patties into also Vegan? Love that recipe!

@WeCookVegan Aylar önce
👋 Hello MrSeaneboy! Thank you so much for watching, subscribing and sharing your feedback! I agree, more spice for these patties is a great idea! I encourage everyone to add the spices you like the most and the qualities you like! As for the sauce this is a home made plant based tzatziki sauce - mix dairy-free yoghurt, a bit of salt and pepper, minced garlic, grated cucumber and chopped parsley or dill. Sending you my best wishes! 😊

This looks yummy. And you don't have to do all that chopping when you're putting everything in the blender!
@WeCookVegan

👋 Hello Alyson! Thank you for your comment! So glad to hear you like the recipe! You can skip chopping if you like! I like to chop it first as if you put the whole carrot, onion and parsley/cilantro to the food processor and start to blend, you will have to blend it more or less to the puree which is not good for this recipe. So if you skip chopping, do not over blend the mixture to a mushy puree mix as your patties will not be as lovely as in my video. Wishing you a wonderful day! 😊 💖

@fiorella5216
@fiorella5216 2 aylar önce
@@sutil5078 pero qué tiene que ver, si la receta lleva lentejas, no garbanzos? Aparte son lentejas turcas, no necesitan mucho remojo.

Hello! Thank you so much for watching! Happy you like the patties! This is home made plant based tzatziki sauce. To make it mix dairy free yoghurt, a bit if salt and pepper, minced garlic, grated cucumber and chopped parsley or dill. You can use natural dairy unflavoured yogurt if you are not a vegan and prefer it instead of plant based yogurt. Thank you ones again and wishing you a wonderful day! 😊💖

The processor will process all the ingredients. No need to chop them! If you are worried about them remaining chunky or lentils getting too mushy, pulse the other ingredients first , then add the lentils and pulse again to desired consistency. Saves a lot of steps and time!! Enjoy!

I was thinking this too, like why spent so much time cutting everything so finely if you're gonna use a food processor anyway? I mean that's the single one thing I love most about getting to use those things, that I dont have to spend half an hour cutting everything up😂
