The fact that at my k-12 school I wouldn’t be able to find my 8 year old brother and that I would have to just leave him there, as well as my house would be the safe house since it is so so so close to the school scares me so bad.

2 years ago I posted how thankful I was to have never personally experienced this as either a student or parent…I might have spoken too soon 🥺 Last week, a neighboring community, Oxford Mi, did and the rippling effect into our community is is something I didn’t expect. A classmate of my daughter was friends with one of the victims that didn’t make it. My daughters teacher is a friend of one of the teachers there that day who had to ignore a student’s desperate pleas for help. The copycat threats made in our district, at my child’s school, forcing school to close the rest of the week…today they reopened and my daughter went back to school and I was home terrified I would lose my daughter and having anxiety attacks! I think I’ll lose my shit if my daughter has to go thru this trauma firsthand. These people- victims, survivors, parents, first responders, dispatchers…these are heroes in my book! I dunno how they get over something like this

As a high school student, i hate having to fear simply being at school because of shootings. A few weeks ago we had a lockdown drill and even though we knew it was a drill, me and many of my friends couldn't help but be scared. It's all so heartbreaking

The fuked up thing is we got teens with tattoos on their body of the dead shooters saying "best day ever" and it was the worst day of many peoples lives. I've been in traumatic events and that never leaves your mind... I hope they all are a little bit none at peace now. Good on them for speaking out. There's always been so much interest in columbine.

The teachers who created a shield, what horror. These kids are their life. All their problems, fights, successes, smiles, tears, first loves, were all shown in some way at some point to these teachers - they were THEIR children. And most of them probably already felt like they failed them, and they weren't going to again. So the students across the street congregating, who had no cover available if Dylan and Eric turned their sights outside. So these teachers created their own cover for these children to hide behind using their own flesh organs and bone. Every one of them ready to die if it meant saving just one more.

i’m in high school. seeing all of this is really eye opening for me, now school shootings are seen as just another common causality. a few weeks ago, a student in my school brought a gun and pulled it out of his bag in lunch, and i just sat with my friends in my chemistry class, laughing as nothing was going on. the police came and searched our bags, and then the day went on as usual. on that same day, we had a fire take place as well. yet it all seemed so normal to me, and just now i realize how dumb i was not to take it more seriously.

How come when the shooters were asking the kids hiding under the table in the library to identify themselves, they let some of them run out without being killed? Does anyone know? Were the kids told to just "get out and run" friends of acquantances of the shooters or whats up with that?

We were in a lock down once because the rumor was that someone had brought in a weapon and we didn't even know if someone had even been shot or died or not just that we were in lockdown and that we could only hide under a desk and we were all wondering what was going on. The lights were out, door was shut and blinds were drawn. I was worried for my friends at the time and everyone in that school but mostly my class and teachers. The administration finally cleared that it was okay to continue school and we were finally let go. It was the scariest experience of my life thinking it was about to be a school shooting. We had policeman in school at the time so I believe that's why nothing happened that day and no one was hurt.

The truth is I do not blame Harris and Klebold’s parents at all. In my honest opinion I blame both Dylan and Eric only because they knew what they were doing was just pure evil. I have no empathy for Dylan and Eric at all just their families plus the Columbine survivors. Especially the victims that were murdered and their families so depressing plus sickening how people can behave like that. I understand that it is possible that Dylan and Eric were bullied which is so horrible because no one deserves to be bullied at all whatsoever because it is so disgusting and immature. In the same time just because you were bullied that does not give you the right to bully others. There is no excuse for that type of behaviour at all because you do not bring your personal issues towards innocent random people in their lives. It turns out that Dylan was suffering from suicidal depression who hated his life and Eric was a psychopath who enjoyed being cruel towards innocent people very disturbing. If you have no self-control and no self-discipline then you need to seek some serious help from good professional people with real empathy. May all the victims rest in peace because they obviously did not deserve this at all. As human beings we should all follow the three principles of life compassion, empathy and love to have a more perfect union.

What kind of irks me is that some of the survivors don’t even really know what tf they talking about. What transpired during the altercation is all believable but they are talking about the trench group mafia like it was that group of people and saying the reason why when they don’t know the reason and they are just saying rumors they heard. It wasn’t bullying of the trench coats that caused the attack it was 2 really messed up kids within the trench coat group that did it for reasons unknown. It wasn’t because they were outcast, even if it played a part that wasn’t the reason.

Was in ninth or tenth grade when this happened.... will never forget it. I the year I graduated, I had recieved an "IM message", (instant message) online while I was at home one evening that said they were planning to shoot up the school during our graduation. I had no clue who this person was or how they knew to message me. Thankfully I was connected thru family to law enforcement and talked with them about what happened and what I was told and they were able to retrieve and track down where the message came from and removed this person. I'll never know if this person/person's were serious or not but I thank God that he allowed me to be the one to recieve that message and contact law enforcement in hopes that it might have saved our lives. Prayers to all of the survivor's and the victims families...

Wendy Pollock

@K.I.A I was bullied all through all 3 levels of public school because I was a big girl and I NEVER thought about killing the bullies. This is a combination of mental illness and a gun culture of guns being more important than human lives to many people.
K.I.A 2 aylar önce
@Victoria Ross I need you to do some more reading on the subject. They were bullied, people who were in their class said so at the time and years later as well. Again that doesn't condone the actions they took, just brings more context to it. Context is imperative when discussing such issues, no "one size fits all" answers. Could have still happend without the bullying, bet money it didn't help thou!!
Victoria Ross
Victoria Ross 2 aylar önce
No they weren't. That's been debunked multiple times over the years. Outcasts that were ignored, yeah. Relentlessly bullied, no.
K.I.A 2 aylar önce
@Daniel Chang I agree, all I'm saying is don't put people in a position that makes suicide or killing others palletable. Like bullying, however unacceptable suicide or killing is if u bully people that is the road they go down mentally. Can't blame the bullied for thinking that way, they don't see another way out. That's why they go these extremes, this has been studied infinitum. That's why bullying is tackled so intensely these days, happily so I might add. Less bullies mean less school shooters, that's an undeniable fact!!
K.I.A 2 aylar önce
@Daniel Chang i never offered an excuse, just an explanation! One thing always leads to another. Everyday bullying led to tragic loss of life on the part of the bullies. This wasn't a mental health issue, as far as is documented it was bullying! Again no excuse just an explanation.

Mental health issues can be devastating, people lucky enough to be healthy don't understand what its like to live tormented by your own mind, sadly too many of us don't seek help because we can't even realize we are sick, I was lucky enough to have a wonderful woman in my life who is now my wife, she convinced me to see a doctor, and my life is so much better now that I've found a treatment that is right for me, living with chronic anxiety and depression can make you irrational, and to you it makes sense but to everyone around you it doesn't, I used to think everyone was out to get me, that everyone was trying to hurt me, everything was always about me, it made me bitter and angry, always had a short fuse, all kinds of bad thoughts would always be floating around my head, I was desensitized to human pain and suffering, I couldn't care less about anyone but myself, I saw the world as worthless most of the time, I was suspicious of everyone at all times, I was manipulative... When treatment started working, I didn't feel like the same person any more, the guy I had been most of my life at that point seemed to me like a stranger, it wasn't me any more, I don't know how else to describe it, most of that crushing weight I had been carrying around for so long had been lifted and for the first time in my life I saw and understood what had been dragging me down all along, it was myself, I feel so much better now, I enjoy work, family activities, talking to people, life is just better now, I only wish more people could get the help I got before its too late.

Pretty powerful. I can relate to their shock, not being able to process the weight of the situation at first. I graduated HS in 1994, & I can assure you the idea of a mass shooting in school esp. by another student was inconceivable to us. To us, school violence only happened in "inner city schools." And double kudos to these guys, because to endure Columbine and then endure 9/11 just a few years after - can't believe they powered through. For younger folks, I can't tell you how those 2 events changed the American psyche forever. Until that, we suburban kids were pretty darn innocent-minded.

The 90s was such a radical change for America. Of course the economy was booming, but there was much tension between races. We became more divided over time and we started lashing out with violence, hence the Oklahoma City Bombing.

What happens if you have a Daughter being a regular target of any forms of harassment in School. How would you feel ? Other groups of students that are harassing your daughter all the way until the end of the School year are NOT your daughter or your son. So it does cause a huge impact with the victim's families. I think it's best for everyone to forgive and forget. You knew these guys were sick and were only trying to do harm. I can understand your feelings about what happend because I myself too have gone through a murder with my stepdad killing my whole family in Wagstaff Kansas on Halloween in 1984 but this is my message that I want to get across to you. Forgive them and forget about it. It's the only way your going to heal from the Trauma that occurred and just like what i went through with my StepFather murdering my family in front of me I had to let the pain and the horrific scene in my head go because what happend to me was soo horrific that no 8 year old little boy should witness at such a young age and handle that kind of trauma in front of him. Forgive and Forget is my message to you because it is what the Heavenly Father asked of me to do with my own experience.

I’ll never forget this day. I was home from school, sick. I’m fourth grade. I came back to school the next day and my teacher told us what happened. I’ll never forget it, it will haunt my memories forever. Later in high school I studied Columbine in detail, including their journals and internet posts. Now, shootings are so common we forget about them shortly after they happen.

I wouldn't say that, hence Parkland. It was just as bad as Columbine and we all got together as one.

At my school the first years have a day where they get thaught about safety with like bikes and cars and we had a tracktor, ambulance and firetruck and ee were in third year and all of a sudden one of my friends just comes to us and says "guys theres a fire in one of the lockers" in the most calmest voice ever and this happens so much where people think its funny to burn paper in thier lokker so we just laughed and then we looked down and saw like half the school filming it so we were confused and then we went to check and apparently somebody lit a firreork in his friends locker and lit his jacket on fire and to understand why we were laughing one of the teachers went to grab a fire extinguisher and he just falls 2 times so we didnt take it seriously even though we hear people scream to go outside because it was just a little fire so now everytime i hear the firealarm I get a bit scared

Why doesn't America just ban guns? My sympathies to the survivors and families but so glad I live in Australia. We never have to really worry about gun violence at schools. Poor people.

@M'aiq The Liar letting one person own more guns than a small army platoon is stupid.

You do know their main objective was actually to blow up the cafeteria so the library fell on top of it right? The bombs just didn’t work (thankfully).

I was 10 years old that day. My friend’s brother went to Columbine and she told me how he saw blood splattered on the walls of the hallway. I can never get that image out of my mind 😢
