For those who want to know: this volcano is called Fuego in Guatemala. It erupts every 5-15 minutes so its actually fairly easy to get lucky and be right with the countdown. I have been there 2 months ago and it what was the most amazing experience of my llfe

Those handprints were not from homebuilding, they were from the tile-making process, and were likely not children, but women who did a lot of manual labor just like most men at that time. There are numerous records of this. It is also noteworthy that tile-making was rather specialized, and so you would not have the tile-makers/potters also engaged in carpentry.
