In honor of Halloween, we are returning to our favorite space alien and supernatural creature, Pennywise the clown from IT. Today we are focusing specifically on IT Chapter 2 and the Ritual of Chüd. Late but I don’t think that would have worked, the way the ritual works is that the token has to be destroyed. If Eddie was Richie’s token, the Eddie had to be destroyed in order for the ritual to work.

My theory is this: When Richie was caught in the dead lights, he sees his worst fear, right? So maybe the rest of the movie from when Richie goes into the deadlights is from his point of view, seeing his worst fear played out. Watching the man he loves die and, having to live without him. Cuz Andy Muschietti even said they might make another movie and, how could you do that, if Pennywise is dead.

Pennywise, in some form, survived, or resurrected. Stephen King's cosmology is vast and funky, but the Turtle's dead nowadays, and Dreamcatcher has a memorial to the Loser's Club with an explicit bit of graffiti that says Pennywise Lives.

I'll try to dive a little deeper. I think Stanley's suicide broke their pact & ultimately guaranteed Pennywise's survival. The *remaining* Losers' Club won the battle because they learned the strategy & were true to their cause. Pennywise won the war, though. He was defeated, not killed. Just my theory... An ADDED FILM THEORY!. We'll find out in 25 years, I guess😧😄

After seeing these movies, and the deep dive commentaries about them, I'm glad big budget movies were made about such a great book, but at the same time I'm also wishing they just didn't do it at all. The best case for doing a proper onscreen adaptation of IT would be a multi season TV show, where the story could be properly told over the right amount of time. Even with these combined run times, they still took a wood chipper to the actual story and made an absolute mess of the narrative.

I think the only other way for Richie to overcome his fear would be to confess to Eddie, which in theory is way easier but Richie only would've realized Eddie was his token and biggest fear either if they had more time or if Eddie died. And they didn't have more time..... This whole entire two movies make SO MUCH more sense after this video-

I recall in the book part of the reason they’re able to beat pennywise is because his transformations obeyed the rules of the form, partly because of the belief of the kids he was feeding from. The werewolf form was weak against silver because that’s what the kids believed and the final battle as adults the gang got back in that mind space and used their childhood beliefs to fight against pennywise. Otherwise I can’t remember too much about the book, though I recall it wasn’t that difficult to understand

There is a simple option - the Losers have a fair degree of Shining between them, enough to harm Pennywise if focussed properly, such as through a fully completed Ritual of Chud. Knowing this, Pennywise fakes them out rather than risk continuing a fight that might have resulted in significant harm to the Deadlights, and allows them to believe that they won. The fact that they won in a manner that seems to contain a rather negative message of the power of petty mean spiritedness could be a clue that this was not a true victory after all. Having convinced the Losers the threat is passed, IT can then simply wait them out, since the next time it emerges from hibernation they will be 27 years older and so that much further away from their childhood bond that forms a major part of their power.

The only time I cried for OT 2 was Eddie because can you imagine having the person you've loved for so long but never told your feelings to getting killed and that chance at a happy ending for you both is taken away? Hit me right in the feels.

I actually think eddie got over his fear in the basement with the leper. He says at the end that it felt so weak when he was choking it. He only left cause it puked on him.

This is actually great, and reminds me of Gravity Falls. The comparison of getting over fears and getting over ego is really interesting to me. The characters in Gravity Falls all sacrifice themselves to help each other, which is what eventually brings Bill down, and finally getting over their trauma, enough to fully move on and to not sulk and regret over their past, to be on the aggressive against Pennywise instead of running from him, is his downfall. It's symbolized by Eddie's sacrifice, his final actions to realize what had to be done and attack Pennywise to get over his fear. It's unfortunate that he was one of the tokens, but it was the only way that Pennywise could actually be defeated. Similar to Bill being erased along with the rest of Stan's mind. I'm not sure why I thought this, considering the themes aren't even the same, but the sacrifice really makes you think about the similarities.

All I could say is everyone is entitled to there own options as such a theory in definition, because it wasn’t confirmed by Stevan king himself as film theory tackles this movie talking about the cast and crew overcoming there fears as such the quest to find said tokens of there past, witch made an adventure as a group . As told by the theorist himself it’s just a film theory but in regard to all of this I don’t even come to think that if pennywise was wise he wouldn’t have killed Eddie as that became his demise

I can probably explain the phone call question! First of all, the character remember that they grew up in Derry, Maine, but they don't remember details about each other. Second, for some it says the place, for some it says says that it's an unknown number. Eddie- Might have thought it was someone calling about his family or his mother's home. His mother is already dead by Chapter 2. Someone might be interested in buying the house in his mind. Richie- Unknown number. Possibly a fancall, possibly for work. Maybe someone calling to book him. Yeah, that would be his managers job, but once again, it might be a fancall. Stanley- He's shown to remember. He remembers everything. Bill- Once again, a work call. Bev- Work call. Ben- Work call. Most of the time, it's a work call.

During Ritchie's token gathering, he's literally confronted by (the now dead) Adrian from the beginning of the movie, who hands him the funeral services pamphlet with his face on it. Ritchie himself reveals in the beginning that he doesn't write his own material either. So yeah, the director was subtle about it.

This is why I prefer the books, adaptations often make everything _so_ much more confusing... Very good layout of what the movies _were_ going for at least... Also, they didn't just _punch_ Pennywise to death in the book, nor did they _need_ Eddie to die for them to defeat It, they were fighting back and hurting It throughout the story.

I had thought they simply misunderstood the translation for the ritual. That it wasn't supposed to trap him but rather summon him and or make him vulnerable. Kind of like counting before a duel. The ritual simply starts the fight and the Natives just didn't win. Edit: though both could be true. The ritual burning could summon IT and the overcoming of trauma is what was needed to win.

I think the IT movies carry a deeper meaning that the past is something that we fear but actually its just a way for us to see how should we act in the future we should act the way we didn't in our traumatic past so that the trauma remains the past

I find it funny Eddie throwing the spear at Pennywise is very symbolic. Like in the movie 300 when the leader throws the spear at the Persian leader. Unfortunately for him. It mearly grazed him, but you saw it hurt him and that was really all that mattered. That he can be hurt. There for, he can be killed. Just like Pennywise
