So, i also know this is a year later, But if my filament is coming out like, strings vs the 0.4mm Filament im using, does that mean i have a partial clog?

What can you do to prevent jams? I have been having jams mid print, when I try to measure extrusion, it will be fine but after repeating for a few times, it will sometimes jam, then next try it will be fine again, cant seem to find the cause

this just happened to me. The compression nuts ended up broke at the compression. So I had to order a new set. To be honest, while I enjoy 3dprinting, I kinda regret buying a 3dprinter, it just added more trouble into my daily task.

iv been having issues with my Labits 3d printer (comparable to an Ender 3 Pro). and have had very little success seeing what could be the issue. Iv tried the needle trick etc to get the girl unclogged. But when you said to just push a metal rod down in there, I grabbed the nearest wire hanger and just pushed that clog through the heating block with no problems!!!! AMAZING work btw on not making a boring video on how to fix this issue too. I was about to suck start my glock-a-chu if I had to listen to one more middle aged dad in a garage explain to me his printer specs before showing me the wrong problem to fix.

Thanks Tom. I believe this traces my problem to the gripper wheel in the extruder housing, and I'll have to experiment with the tension. Shouldn't have taken it apart :( in the first place. First problem turned out to be a bit of filament broken off during a hot pull. Slit the Bowdon tube with an exacto knife, picked out the filament. Colo-rectal surgery, here I come !

clogs is a pain i have ordered copper washers to see if this can help against clogs and leaky threads, a copper washer will seal the nozzle to the heatbreak 100% stopping the posibility for leaks around the threads, they are often used on engines to seal the diesel and petrol system and can be reused 2-3 times , if this will work remains to be seen.

I have some matte pla that constantly jams no matter what temp I print at. It will start to underextrude then gush a bunch of filament onto the print and then the filament will strip in the extruder. I can pause the print, extract the filament, clip the end off and load it and it prints till it happens again. I have a V6 with a Orbiter extruder.

A very well-prepared explanation of the possibility of blocking the filament. Recently, I myself had a big problem with filament jamming and stopping extrusion altogether. The problem turned out to be quite counter-intuitive. Well, my old plastic extruder from Ender 3 in the place where the filamen enters, the filament after houndreds hours, cut a slot ... which probably caused filament blockage .. I replaced the extruder elements with new ones made of aluminum. But the jamming problem occurred, I replaced the nozzles, PTFE tube, finally replaced the complete hotend, hotend insulation, thermistor ... and nothing chgange. Interestingly, the filament jammed after few minutes, the first 2-3, sometimes 5 layers, worked very well, and then suddenly the filament flow was completely blocked ... ..The real promlem was deformation (indentation) made by to tension spring in ektruder. this deformed filament as it reached the hotend caused the filament to jam after a while. After replacing the spring in ekstruder with a weaker one, everything started to print well, I printed a few elements (several hours of printing each) and everything works, before that, each print after a few minutes was blocked. Sometimes, when we replace several elements at once, assuming that all new parts are working properly, we may have a problem finding the cause, as it was in my case.

(UPDATE BELOW FIXED) I don't know why I didn't watch this video sooner. I've been looking through scattered information on this topic for over a week now. If I had seen this earlier I would have progressed a lot faster. I keep getting jams mid print. (It's really frustrating when I see one print finish and another fail misprint) But now that I can see what goes on inside the hot end. I believe I should be able to diagnose what's happening. Just throwing out a bunch of solutions to a possible issue is just frustrating and a waste of time. Your video actually showed me and explained what the issues are and how it should actually run. Thank you!!!!

UPDATE: Got it working! Interesting this video helped me realize there wasn't a problem with my hotend. I did trim the bowden tube to make it more flush. However, I was finally able to stop focusing on the hotend and look at the extruder where I found the real culprit... the ridged metal part meant to feed the filament was missing one screw! So I found a spare and tightened. So far so good!!

Excellent video! Thank you! I think I had about every problem you described in this video already.... One question: Isn't the heater block on the left section printed hotend the wrong way around? I'd put the heat cartridge down, closer to the nozzle and not up, closer to the heat-break or cooling fins.

I have a ender 3. I use pla plus. Nozzle temp 22p and bed at 60. I'm on the end of my second spool of filament. My prints are now making errors so that it look like a nest. I changed my nozzle. When I run test print for bed level. Even though I don't make changes I get results. Sometimes good then print goes bad in one corner. Any help is appreciated.

Nice presentation! Btw, how can we be sure that the top of the nozzle is completely flush/flash (sorry i don't know the right word ) with the bottom of the heatbreak? I mean, how can we be sure that either the nozzle or the heatbreak is not just stuck at some point, because of hardened plastic due to clogging or oozing, that may tell us that they are already flushed to each other but in fact are not.

Excellent explanation and description of curing the various problems. I would add, make sure that when reassembling heat break, heater block and nozzle, that the nozzle is able to screw up tight to the lower surface of the heat break. You might need to screw the heat break a bit further in to the heater block to achieve this. This will mean that there is a thread or two on the nozzle which is visible below the heater block. If this is not done, melted filament will seep down the threads of the nozzle and corrupt the print.

I was getting jams on my Ender 3 direct drive setup. Heat creep maybe an hour into the print. My fix was changing the short bowden tube to a new one. I can't explain why it fix it, but it did. When I measure the old tube, there wasn't any big change in thickness. My guess is that the tube CAN get softer overtime and less able to keep its shape when heated.
