Hardly any other natural wonder on earth is more impressive than the Grand Canyon. Over millions of years, the Colorado River has dug up to 1,600 meters deep into the rock and created a gorge that is almost 30 kilometers at its widest point. To protect large parts of the canyon, the US government established a national monument in 1908, which became Grand Canyon National Park in 1919. In 1979, UNESCO finally declared the Grand Canyon a World Natural Monument.

In Canada it's Called the Gimpy Canyon... we have a few 1500 kilometers long and 60 km at the widest with a river with 5 x gal/sec flow rate than the Colorado.... It just kills you to have to admit, anything you have we have it in spades... except gun violence, racism, bigotry, dis-functional social services or dis-functional healthcare, or dis-functional government>>>>>>>>>>> Undoubtably, Canada is the Greatest Country and Democracy on the planet... sorry Yanky yahoos, try again

As a NATIVE AMERICAN Grand Canyon tour guide for over 20 years it still never ceases to amaze me of the disrespect that you colonists include in your simple minded stories. There are literally thousands of ancient indigenous trails going up and down the canyon walls since millenia ago. You newcomers need some lessons in humility. One Bad Ndn lol.

This was amazingly well done on every level. The actual canyon is amazing but the photography was off the charts- very nice combination of animals and the surreal beauty- wonderfully done. thank-you.

Do u think u cld ever take it for granted.Ever see it again painted in snow without feeling anything in ur heart? Somehow, Ur comment tells me, no. I don't think ur like that. U sound like u truly enjoy its natural beauty. Not everyone would do that in winter, most would be summer, I'd imagine. But the things u see in winter are not the same things in life u'd see in the summer months. Extremities in nature tend to do that, create unusual and breathtaking scenes. I envy u ur beautiful country as u may envy me mines? But not in a bad way. We all jst love beauty. ✊🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✊🏻

@Antonio Misel It isn't one or the other. It's both! Take a look at (and maybe read/listen to a bit about the James Webb telescope if you want your mind blown! Then consider if this is God's work, too! I grew up a nature and science person, and also in church. I question everything, yet the more I learned and saw in nature and science, the more I believed in God. That may not make sense to some, yet it does to me. The time the universe has existed, the unplumbed depths of science and its deep complexity, the breathtaking beauty--where did it all start? God perhaps?

When I see the beauty of earth and Nature. The Big bang theory explosion doesn't make any sense. God all mighty the creator makes alot more sense.

The Grand Canyon was carved out by at least 6 ice ages melting. It's sits at the edge of a massive ice age glacier 4-6 miles high. Once the canyon was started by the first melting, every melting after that sent warm air up the canyon carving out a canal in the ice that sent all of the melting water back down into the canyon, carving deeper each the until you see what we have now. But that's just my theory.
Michael Kenny
Michael Kenny 2 aylar önce
How do you know those details? You comment as if you were there when it happened. There are different explanations on how the canyon formed, each with its merits. A little water over a long time is only one of these. Alot of water over a little time is another explanation. Either way its beautiful.

I live in the U.S. and will never get to see it either, so I watch things like this for at least a tiny taste. I have seen and done some wonderful things closer by but others are just out of my reach. So I'm with ya (from Pennsylvania). Think of what people come to see and do in your part of the world and do those things. Appreciate where YOU are--and then watch documentaries. I work in a small city but live in a small town in a rural area along a very wide, but too shallow for shipping (thank God), river that is beautiful. I use my kayak on that. The river is the Susquehanna and my town is Liverpool (yes, named after yours). Population including outlying farms is about 1,000 at most. Almost no crime here. Our police for the area are 12 miles away. Thankfully, we do have a fire company and ambulance service. NYC and LA are probably almost as foreign to me as they are to you, lol! Now if we could just deprogram the Trump cultists over here...arrrgh!!! Yes, we're a bit of a mess over here. I've gotten more of an education on my own country than I ever wanted or imagined. Pretty disappointing, really. But all is not lost, yet. The majority are good people, but the rabid minority has damaged, and is still damaging, our government and democracy, thanks to you-know-who and his minions who went against their vows to protect the constitution just to keep their cushy jobs. We'll have to wait and see. And they'll always have to live with themselves when hindsight sets in.

Yes, it's quite something. Even with the beauty of the photography the most telling is in narration at the beginning where he says something about the mind not being able to comprehend its vastness. The Canyon is the center of the vortex for this continent. He said it was humbling but when you arrive there you are immediately transformed into an ant... IN GLORY. What I liked about this documentary was the footage at the end where they show the Canyon in the deep red colors that appear after a rainstorm, and the slate grey clouds. That is when the Canyon is most nurturing, welcoming, enfolding. Now, with the heat in the west, the Canyon and other desert parks are going to get deadly. With the Canyon, most people don't really know the winter is the safest time visit if you plan to do any hiking.

Tell ya a national park you don't hear about alot and was absolutely BEAUTIFUL was the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. That ENTIRE state is gorgeous. Especially the southern part of the state around Cumberland lake. Ive been to them all and the Daniel Boone was the most beautiful in the fall. ALOT of UFO sightings happens there. We saw an orange glowing spheres one night around 11:30pm and when I pulled off to the side of the road and got out to tk a pic. As soon as I raised my camera the light faded out. Imagine that! It was just hovering in one spot and the orange glowing light was flickering kinda like how a fire looks from a distance. The UFO channels have been talking about 2 that were seen entering the water at the lake I just mentioned also. Crazy!

"The mighty beasts are trampling the ancient grasslands." That's their job, as their bison ancestors did long before humans began to overrun North America. See this video for the reasons that ancient populations of ruminants evolved with ancient grasslands and in fact support the grasslands and protect the grasslands from desertification when properly allowed to graze across wide areas instead of being limited to smaller pasturelands. Of all national parks I've gone to this is the most restrictive one I've ever been to an America. You're allowed to hike around even camp here you basically pay your $15 and there's a small no more than a mile long section of the area where they really let you go that's at least how it was when I went back in like 2015

Hi Blist. If you get the chance to return to the canyon I’d suggest going to the north rim. It is higher in elevation so plan for that. But it is less crowded and there are many good day hikes ranging from easy to “why am I doing this!”
