My sister and I have ankles that have NEVER been able to bend to the degree that normal people can. We can not "sit on our heels". We fall back wards. Our knees never go over our feet.

Surely there is a system out there that offers training that rehabs, through various exercises or positions, a person back to their ideal alignment and movement? It’s not yoga I’m looking for but something else - anybody have insight into this idea?

Part of the reason I dropped out of college was because we had 3-4 hour classes in the tech courses and I got so uncomfortable sitting in the chairs that I started skipping classes or half of the class and then I couldn't keep up and failed lol

They actually do teach this in fitness If you actually attend school for it. It is taught in kinesiology and physiology. If the trainer recieved thier cert online instead of actually attending school I doubt they took these classes.

I always wondered why we never had standing desks at schools. Seems like a much better way to let kids burn off energy than sitting. Lota of good opportunities to "shake it off" and wiggle and jump, etc to get them to wake up or break from mental for a minute or two so they can settle back into learning mode and retain more from a lesson overall.

I think walking after we eat is very beneficial as it lowers blood sugar. Try not to sit after eating but go for a five or ten minute walk.

The best thing my parents did for me as a kid was put me in gymnastics for fun. Because I learned all these "cool moves" in gymnastics, I have always remained flexible. I only realized how different my body was compared to others when in university.. I got really into yoga and was naturally "good" at the poses compared to my friends who seemed to struggle until they got used to it. Never had back pain in my life (besides after a serious workout), even from a bad night's rest. My husband and I used to game together a lot, and after 2 hours he would be all sore and stiff from sitting and I never understood how that happens so easily to him

This is basically a 13 minute talk that says "move like children." It really has nothing to do with sitting down destroying you. Maybe he meant sit like children sit.

I used to work at a country club in Kansas. One day a bride-to-be and her friends were decorating the dining room for her reception; her mother, a Japanese woman, was helping, too. Finding nothing more to do, the mother stopped to rest. But instead of sitting on one of the many chairs in the room, she squatted right there in the dining room. I'll never forget how odd it looked to a westerner like myself, though probably totally ordinary to a Japanese person. I know now it's the most healthy sitting position.

I remember hearing somewhere decades ago about the importance of this "childlike" sitting posture, the ability to do it or not being an important measure of flexibility. In my career as a firefighter, it was one of the first physical tests we had to do during recruitment. Later, as an instructor with the Fire Service, I was amazed to find how small a percentage of young and otherwise fit young people were capable of sustaining this posture. This is an important reflection of how the modern world has taken away something important from us; our ability to move freely and easily through our world.

Sit on the floor like the Eastern cultures. These are practices that have tested time. Sitting on the floor for eating food, passing bowels in the squatting manner, squatting down for rest (seen even by farmers) keeps you healthy and many might complain of arthritis but my great grandmother seldom did. She lived in the rural side where the concept of chairs isn’t as common as the bench where it’s easier to slouch. Crossing your legs as you sit makes keeping the spine straight less of a conscious task and a posture itself.

Oh it is possible. You need to redevelop muscles that have degraded. Firstly start by sitting on the floor and by crossing your legs, next start squatting and resting. It will hurt regions of your calf but over time it will not. Start of by first trying for 3 minutes, then 3.5 and slowly increase the timing of it. In order to not highly magnify the discomfort of the posture probably try watching a TRshow video or something stimulating. I used to go on social media and stay on it only as long as I’m squatting, so I limit myself on social media as well as gain good posture by staying on social media. But sitting on the floor by crossing your legs is something I would recommend for starters. :)
