I think people under estimate the overall difficulty of such a task that this man accomplished. The strength, the accuracy, time management (seasons, weather, daylight), the mental aspect (being secluded, wild animals, not close to healthcare, absent from family), oh and documenting all of it, editing and everything else that I missed. My hats off to Shawn. “My self Reliance” I couldn’t thin of a better title. Happy New Year!

It is mind boggling to see how an extremely difficult task was managed by a single person.His knowledge and ability to use basic tools was very impressive. What the video doesn’t show is how much mental strength he needed to persist to completion. Shawn I congratulate you for completing a monumental job. I've been subscribed to your channel going back a ways. Despite what you've accomplished in building remote cabins in the past this one is even more impressive! I was amazed how you were able to handle large, heavy logs using a block-and-tackle system and were able to scale and notch the logs using hand tools. I've been fascinated by the idea of building remote homesteads since encountering the Woodswoman books by Anne La Bastille and later the video "Alone in the Wilderness" about the cabin built in a remote part of Alaska by Dick Proenneke.

I watched your off grid build and I truly enjoyed every moment of it. You are very talented and very lucky to build your log cabin in the wilderness. Your carpentry skills is just incredible and very admirable. Attention to details and all by hand is totally off the charts. I wish I could be there but I'm in the rainy Central part of England 🇬🇧 in the big city of Leeds where people are just under your feet and really dont give 2 f**ks, and the hustle and bustle of city life is one big thing i hate. It's unfortunate that you had to relocate because of those issues. It's been a while since i've watched your videos and it's good to see that you have a quicker technique for getting your logs cabin ready as opposed to before. Hats off to you for the back-breaking work, dedication to not using power tools, and that passion that drives you to complete your projects in general. Lets not overlook the additional work of filming it all for YT. Now I need to get caught up on the rest of the homestead build. I hope you've made a full recovery from your recent ailment. I also have to add that I am grateful for the videos in which you give advice to young men. That helped put things in perspective for me when I was going through tough times.

We've been watching since you started your first cabin. It was unfortunate to see you go, but given the circumstances we don't blame you. We love THIS CABIN so much more! Possibly, it's because of the root cellar, the style and overall length. You've put yourself through some trying times and you stand by the title of your TRshow name! @Dylan Mccoy Shawn originally built his first cabin (on this YT page) and other structural log buildings way more than 2 years ago. All that tedious work, by hand, on the same property, but in a different location. That first phase had an old-fashioned laundry room, sauna, outdoor kitchen, shed, outhouse etc... Sold it. You'd have to see if the video's are still up? Then you'd understand why the relocation. But, at least, this new cabin is much larger with a huge, root cellar and he installed/built an enclosed semi-hydroponic greenhouse and shed. Shawn is a determined man with a strong disposition. He is Self Reliance. 👍

@James McCabe I believe he mentioned someone buying the plot closer to his own, and it was too much noise, interaction and proximity to the new developers. He picked a father area on his own huge plot. Hope that helps. 😊

Thanks Shawn for putting this into a single video. It’s really cool to see all the episodes that I remember condensed to be able to see how much really went into this. Yet still there’s a lot of stuff not in this, like milling the lumber and such. Blessings happen all the time, and sometimes hard to see immediately, but in my opinion this cabin and setup is way better than the first cabin! Although I really did like the first one as well. Absolutely incredible watching the seasons change during the build, fit and finish of this cabin is astounding, the will and determination is off the charts.The ridge beam and purlins and the trust you had with that cable and hoist system, it is incredible that you were not seriously injured alone in the middle of nowhere, you must have spent weeks, just keeping the tools sharp. I have never witnessed anything like this in my entire life, absolutely incredible, my friend. You have built yourself a fortress, and filmed it for all to see, what an accomplishment, hats off to ya sir, this cabin will stand for decades, all the best for you and your family in 2023, we thankyou for bringing us along.

I, too, have watched you from the beginning of building your 1st cabin. I'm in absolute disbelief that you have been able to keep up such consistent stamina in single-handedly erecting these beautiful structures. I am amazed that one man can hoist those giant logs (alone, by yourself!), high into the air, etc. How you stay after such a laborious, ongoing task day after day, month after month, year after year thru all 4 seasons (including wind, hail, snow & freezing temperatures is purely astounding and beyond my comprehension! Do you ever get sick, tired, burned out, or purely weary of such a massive task? In my book, your mental & physical endurance may make you ONE OF A KIND!! God bless you, your precious Callie & supportive family. Your massive, incredible, gob-smacking accomplishments deserve far more recognition as you work alone, isolated from civilization, enduring ALL out there alone in the wilderness. Just came across this TRshow site. I love the cabin and detail that Dick Proeneke did in Alaska many years ago. In fact I bought the DVD’s for it. Was checking it out on TRshow and came across a video of Shawn visiting the site. Pulled up this video and have watched about 4 more as he finishes up this cabin. Fantastic work and ingenuity. Cali the dog is relentless in her quest to play fetch. Still more to watch and catch up. I saw a couple sites knocking him. They haven’t a clue what it takes to do what he has done here.
