The smartest criminal alive was caught voluntarily and also ended his life recently, of his own free will.(on June 10, 2023)
Ted Kaczynski is an American mathematician and social critic. A serial bomber also known as the "Unabomber". Kaczynski's life is quite interesting and controversial, from his mathematical achievements to his transformation into a terrorist with radical views. It was found as a result of one of the most complex, longest and most expensive studies in American history. He turned his views, which can be summarized as criticism of industrial society and technology, into a manifesto, and even the books he wrote while in prison became "bestsellers" in their own category.
The opening sentence of the book:
“The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. "Technology was supposed to liberate us, but it didn't."
Some academics compare him with intellectuals of the past.
“If this is the work of a madman, then the writings of many political philosophers, such as Jean Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Paine, Karl Marx, are no more sane than this.”
“The really disturbing thing about Kaczynski and his ideas is not that they are so foreign, but that they are so familiar,” says another.
There are also those who say, “We should see Kaczynski as an exceptional madman and genius.”
“Because the alternative is much scarier,” they add.
Many documentaries and films were made about him while he was in prison. His ideas turned into comic books. His hut, which was moved during his trial, was exhibited in museums. The belongings of the hut were sold at auction and the proceeds of $15 million were given to the families of the victims and those who were harmed.
There are those who see him as a hero. There were even people who campaigned "Let Unabomber be President" in the 1996 elections. After the series I quote in the video was released in 2017, a group inspired by its views and calling themselves "Neo-Luddites" decided to adopt a primitive lifestyle.
Yes, this true story is almost like the story of Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader. The most popular villain in movies.
Or another similar example. It's like the story of Walter White's transformation from good to evil from Breaking Bad. The most popular villain of the series.
Despite the fact that many people were harmed by his actions and the traumas experienced by these victims, his radical ideas continue to attract attention in certain circles.
His story presents us with a portrait of a complex person at the point where the border between madness and genius becomes thinner.
