The Ottoman invasion of Europe was truly challenged for the first time during the Battle of Kosovo of 1389. The Serbs and other Balkan peoples alongside their allies from Western and Eastern Europe fought valiantly against overwhelming odds and although they lost, the foundation of the future resistance, that continued until the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, was set. This battle was also remarkable due to the fact that leaders of both armies were killed during it. Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović died in the battle and Sultan Murad I was assassinated by the Serbian knight Miloš Obilić, who was killed shortly after. All three are considered martyrs by their people and the spirit of this battle is still part of the bitter animosity…

In Kosovo, we literally defended Christians from Islam and broke through Islam to Europe, and today the same Europe (the majority) recognizes Kosovo and Metohija as an independent state. Although it is a Holy Christian country, they are not real Christians like us (those who recognize Kosovo and Metohija as an independent state) they just want ores from the mines that were opened by the Saxons during the reign of King Stefan Uros I.

@Blockie Don't be stupid. Deretic was not a historian, neither more than 1% of the people take him seriously. He was a guy who found the way to make money of the stupid people. As I said, no more then 1% of population care about him, if even that. But I'll tell you one thing. His fairy tales are very similar to fairy tales that albanians are using as their official history.

@sphere mechanical D Martini Lol. I'm a muslim, so not a chetnik. Also i am of I2a genetics. So even if someone came to balkan, my ancestors didn't. My family comes from Crnojevic dynasty. As for arrival of slavs and our symbols, perhaps look at Triballi symbols of boar and arrow and then check out that same symbol in use by Serbs centuries later. Also explain how every byzantine scholar calls Serbs Triballi if you will. And the wolf, the same wolf that Romans used as their symbol As for Albanians, I literally cited contemporary sources saying the "so called "albanians" " came to balkan in 1043. Those are the earliest historical sources mentioning albanians. I don't see how you can dispute this. If we are from Russia, explain why the earliest Russian religious chronicle says that both they and their christianity came from the Slavs in Illiricum. Same for Slovak and same for Pole chronicles. Explain why Serbian is more similar to Sanskrit than any other Slav language. Also it was never said we came from Russia, but north of Danube, that's still Balkans as far as i've checked. Explain why the culture of Vinca 6000BC has the same symbol as the later Serbian cross? Explain why Vucedol culture has this same symbol. Explain why Austria was caught fabricating history of Albanians, saying that they are illirians, the same Austria which called Serbs Illirians for centuries? Explain why they did it prior to going to war with us? Explain why the Austrian-Serbian dictionary was called Deutsche-Illyrische? Explain why everywhere you have I2 genetics, you have Serbian toponyms, such as Sorbiodunum in England. Explain why Brutus the Dardanian names New Troy as Troia Nova, exactly the same as in Serbian? Explain how there is a city in kingdom of Macedon 300BC called Bylazora ( White Dawn - Bijela Zora in Serbian). Explain how "Slavs" (who were villagers) conquered infamous Illirians who warred with Rome for over 300 years. Explain why Anna Komnene a Byzantine empress who lived from 1083 to 1153 calls Serbian warriors of Bodin Vojislavljevic "natives of Dalmatia". Explain how 90% of both thracians and Illirian words can be translated through Slavic roots. Explain how everything illirian completely disappeared with no trace? EXPLAIN WHY GJON IS SPELLED IVANES? AND BODIN IS SPELLED BODINUS? Albanian language was created from multiple mutually non-intelligible dialects. Therefore you argument falls to water completely. Also you do understand that R1a haplotype came to Balkan and mixed with I2 in around 9000BC? Thus wherever you put "slavs" they had to originate in Balkans. Let's be reasonable, who but a complete idiot could believe that black, short, gypsy-resembling (no hate) albanians could be the fair haired tall Illirians? Do you not understand that Proto indo european culture was made of Aryan race who were tall with light skin, red/fair hair and blue and green eyes, just like todays Slavs? This same culture was present here with Vinca, Vucedol, Kumanovo and all the other civilizations, which were all found to be I2a genetics. No mention nor connection to Albanians anywhere in the Balkans prior to 11th century AD. As for the monument, we have monuments of Skenderbeg. I have nothing against Albanians, but they have proven to be bitter neighbors of Serbian people and i will not have my heritage taken from me by bigger players using Albanians as pawns to create division and war. When you can answer truthfully all the questions i posted, you will have learned the truth about the history of Balkans.

@NOUS 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 yeah bullshit Albanians are the smallest Illyrian tribe that survived their distinctive language and customs to this day You guys come to balkans in 700AD like wolfs sterling and robing as per your emblem of a wolf in your ćetnik ideology ... And you are from Russia it’s your language almost identical... ... Montenegro is also half Illyrian so are Croats and Bosnians lost their language to Slavic trading etc etc....Slavic influence was massive Albanians were more stubborn and the territory wasn’t easy to conquer ...

@NOUS 😂😂😂😂 Kastrioti family is still in Calabria Southern Italy and speak Albanian Gegë accent (northern) their decendents of Gjergj Kastrioti , you call it whatever but It was Gjergj Gjon Pal Kastrioti Gjon was the father And Pal was grandfather.... Many Albanians left Albania after 3/4 of a century nonstop wars , finally Albania was invaded in 1478...the black day fall of Shkodra.... Prior Ottoman invasion At that time there were no divisions amongst Serbs, Albanians , vlahians and Helens (Greeks) Names were common so you can’t be serious based in one name and call it a serb man 😂😂 I got nothing personal against Serbian people But against lies , nacionalism politics and fucking islamism that has ruined the region Greeks also claim he is Greek 😂 🤔 which is it now....Greek or serb? One question I have for all Serbian people Why didn’t you build a munoment of Gjergj Kastrioti in Beograd if he was a serb princ??? All the best
sphere mechanical D Martini

@Mip 😂😂😂😂yeah Alexander the Great was Serbian was it? Dude for How long have the serb being in north of Danube...I don’t believe you tube but you are certainly not saying it right...... Kosovo were Albanian Christians ,Vllah and other Slavs too once orthodox then catholic under Rome Then converted Muslim under harsh Islamic rule.......it is true that in Durad brankovic army had majority kosovar Albanian Christians but this army was smaller then that of Lazar’s....... So my man Otttoman Turks managed to divide the people of region against one onother... Fare play to serbs that they kept their identity and fought more than anyone Else in Kosovo so they deserve to live in peace in there ....... I hate the fact that the place has taken an Asian look.....or more or less Middle East...

There is a saying "Ne daj Bože da se Srbi slože" witch translated "Dear God don't let Serbians unite", was a best description for almost every war. The biggest mistake in Serbian mentality is really deep stubbornness, witch is why this battle was lost. Many lords didn't joined the battle of "Kosovo" because some of them had personal opinion and greed. As for Vuk, it is debatable some sad he saw a battle was lost and pulled back to regroup and defend in near future, some sad a traitor which is mentioned in video etc. Also, when Ottoman sultan was killed, it was kept as a secret so the army don't panic, that was a great tactic if I can say. So this is my opinion, and thank you for video. E enjoyed every moment of it.

@Edy Bosniacs didnt exist bud Bosnians did. Bosnians were mostly Christians but they also were pagan. They didnt wanted to take Christianity from Vatican so easily. And Vatican tried to force them. They took Orthodox Crhistianity from us because we didnt have aspire to conquere them. Or fight them. So we had good relations. And in that period we became brotherhood neighbours. Tvrtko did relate himself as Serb since he was Serb. Sadly, ottomans came later and they turned Muslim. Rest all we know...
Edy

Bosnian is a teritorial denomination of Serbian land like Bavaria - part of Germany. Tvrtko was a Serb. Bosnians as etnicity didn't exist until mid 1990-ies when the muslim Serbs called themselwes Bosnians.

Kings and Generals This battle is usually bullshit. No one has ever heard about this battle, and the only thing known about this battle is that Sultan Murat was killed by a cowardly man. The Ottomans had a human habit to treat and cure all wounded warriors after the battle. When the sultan Murat came to wounded serbian Milos Kobilica (as they call it in the Ottoman scriptures), Kobilica cowardly kiked Sultan with knife. From the entire battle, only this detail is mentioned in the Ottoman scriptures. The rest for the Ottomans did not have any significance. Serbs are pumping this unknown battle like all the other lost battles. Ottomans hit Serbia as a green grass because the Ottoman empire was a science fiction for these small and quenched lands.

Is USA English? That`s the parallel of what you`re saying. Eastern Roman Empire was never "Byzantium" or "Byzantine" as they never call themselves that. One of the characteristics of Roman Empire (both initial one and Eastern and Western ones) was assimilation of different nations or tribes in to Roman citizenship much like the USA is doing today with incorporation of rules and lows of majority of subjects in to a set of rules and laws called "Roman law" (base of modern legislative even today from a simple reason-it was applicable to all different cultures existing in the empire itself). So to call Eastern Roman Empire just Hellenic is just simplifying things and disregarding certain facts.

Ottoman and Serbian soldiers fought together like lions against the Timurid army in the Battle of Ankara. The Serbian prince fought heroically on the side of his brother-in-law, Yıldırım Beyazid, until the end. For centuries, Serbian soldiers fought alongside the Ottoman army. Serbs and Turks have not always been enemies throughout history.

@Sonja B. bruh/ Sis, Arab mostly enslave the eastern africaners from Ethiopia and Zanzibar. Im not trying to justify their policy, they bought slaves but lot's of their slaves were also from POW. I don't need to talk about how the west enslaved the African but in southeast Asia there was also slave labour in plantations and mines.
Sonja B.

@im a worm before i am man I don't justify slavery of any kind but what I don't like is that people are always talking about what western countries have done but they are not fast to inform what Arabs and those from the "peaceful religion" have done trough history. They are not talking about those white slaves and that's not fair. That's why we today have black people who think that they were the only ones who were enslaved and those white people who have suffered from oppression in hundreds of years well nobody is talking about their suffering.

It dosent matter if your Serbian or Turkish. You have to respect the fact that both sides went into battle with swords, spears, bows and axes and fought in close quarters combat, and their leaders died fighting as warriors.........and now in 2020 we have men in the world that need safe spaces, hugs, and soy lattes...... The Serbs had the tactic that during the fight, a group of armored knights made an attack with the goal of reaching the opponent's head, and capturing him, or killing him. They did that to the Bulgarian tsar in the battle near Velbuzhd. They did the same to the Turks in the Kosovo battle. The Turks were too serious an empire to let Miloš approach the emperor during the battle to kiss his hand.

Excellent video, only a slight detail the two Byzantine civil wars of 1341-1347 and 1352-1357 that with Hesychanism and the invitation of John Kantakouzenos to the Ottomans made a Turkic invasion of Europe easier, and the Serbian knights proved their worth again in the battle of Ankara, where the Thunderbolt Bayezid so great in this battle would be so outmached facing Tamerlane, so many great stories in the balkan region, so few books about these epic balkan wars. How great was this battle, and how it gets overshadowed by the hundred years' war. Congratulations on your video and your channel.

There is a book about this battle, the writer is a historian Momcilo Nastasijevic, was published sometime in 1978 and does not deal with the myth but the facts he collected during his lifetime. Your video is quite accurate according by this book (thank you). The winner of this battle is not known and the Vuk Brankovic did not escape from the battlefield judging by recent research. Relations between (balkan) families of that time are difficult to understand as well as in general territorial or national divisions. In fact Lazar family was not the strongest family, he only managed to put together these families to the same battlefield (there are more families at the battelfield). Again, thank you for the video.

Great video, really informative and right to the point. Keep up the good work. To does who argue in comments I say, you praise yourselves on achievement done by someone else in the past like they are your own, it's nice to have heritage and to be proud of it but to disrespect others based on a "glory" of others is something, as I see, underachievers do not having something own to "brag" about and to form a valid argument about.

King Lazar’s daughter: Olivera was taken into the Turkish Harem which basically means she was taken as a prize to the Prince/Sultan. Sources say that she was a woman of immense beauty, many even comparing her to goddess Aphrodite. It said that with her beauty and decency she was able to persuade Bayazit to spare her Serbian people. With unsettling eyes and quivering knees she pleaded with Bayazit and he essentially put her brother Stefan, in charge of Serbia making Serbia an ottoman vassal for the time being. I think this shows the desperate situation of the Serbs and their every last effort to preserve their people. Maybe it also shows that the ottomans weren’t such blood thirsty rulers after all and had a small bit of heart.

In fact, they welcome it. The last true warriors in Europe and just like in the battle of Kosovo in a distant and recent past, to only be defeated by dirty politics, deciet and domestic treachery. I haven't visited Serbia in a long time so I can only hope that this new generation of young serbs hasn't gotten soft by foreign influence because as we are all watching the whole world going to shits in front of our eyes, the time to dig up the war hatchet is getting near yet again. They teach us in lectures that Murad died by 2 different scenarios first one is after the battle is over as tradition Sultan walk along the battlefield while he passes near the dead bodies a injured soldier tried to kill him and succeded other scenario says that a captured knight was brought before him and he quickly charged at him and killed him in his tent so basicly they tell us Murad died after the Battle

Brilliant video; very commendable. It is not an often sight that events from these regions are presented in a foreign documentary with such care and attention to historical detail. I would like to point out just one minor mistake; it's due to the map and not anything said. The territory headed by Prince Lazar's familial alliance is represented in the video as if a restoration of the Serbian Empire, which it had not been. The southern territories were already under the sovereignty of the Ottoman Empire, which is also the reason why the battle was fought right there, in the lands of Vuk Brankovic and not somewhere to the south. While we have no specific historical account to serve as proof in order to confirm their presence in the battle, it is unlikely this was just a right-of-passage for the sultan's troops; probably at least some tokens of forces of those Christian lords were probably present in the Turkish battle lines.
Srdjan Kalanj
Srdjan Kalanj 5 yıl önce
Which of the 4 sources you used claims that the southern lords (beyond Kossovo's Vuk Brankovic) had accepted Lazar's suzerainty after the 1386 clash?
Kings and Generals
Kings and Generals 5 yıl önce
+Srdjan Kalanj possibly, not arguing. :-) however 3 of 4 my sources claimed that it was the battle that gave Lazar great prestige. There is one more that claims that Tvrtko was the overall leader. I have never seen so many depictions of one battle.
Srdjan Kalanj
Srdjan Kalanj 5 yıl önce
If that were the case we'd have at least some source (whether direct or indirect) of the presence of the southern feudal lords in the battle - nobles who, I may add, all survived the battle as Ottoman vassals afterward. As for the Battle of Plocnik, I won't get into detail since it is latest research and thus irrelevant in the context of this video, but that battle was most likely a very minor clash; contemporary sources indicate so, whereas the whole story of a big battle is an evolution of the story from subsequent sources. But like I said, I won't get into it (there are even some, albeit few, who would state there was no such battle after all); one thing that can be said for sure is that it was not a major turning point.
Kings and Generals
Kings and Generals 5 yıl önce
Thank you! Yes, our map is debatable. It seems that most of south was under Ottoman suzerainty, but some accounts claim that battle of Plocnik changed this. Yes, Ottomans had at least some local aristocrats in their army. Thanks for being attentive.

Seeing how some of the events unfolded in the following years, i think it should be pretty clear that Vuk Brankovic did in fact not run away/betray other rulers, but simply got such reputation because of propaganda. He was the most successful of the christian leaders, so it would make very little sense for him to retreat for no reason, especially after sacrificing so many of his people. After the battle, Vuk became de facto most powerful of christian rulers of those lands, but Lazar's son, as well as late king Vukasin's son Marko became Ottoman vassals, and refused to aid his continued fight against Ottomans. I guess the fact that he survived make him look weak in the eyes of the people, considering it was seen as kind of a holy battle, so every man was expected to fight until the bitter end... Either way, he proceeded to keep resisting Ottomans for as long as he was alive, being aided by Hungarian king, joined the alliance that was similar to those of crusades, and died resisting the Ottoman invasion, all while Stefan Lazarevic, son of Lazar, kept being loyal to Ottomans, and actually apparently played important role in breaking said Christian alliance.

Pasanik Cerriku It is apparent that you didn't really mean to add anything to what i initially commented on, and you're persistent about spreading hate about Serbs and me personally for merely talking about them, all without at any point considering i could not be a Serb, but just someone who happened to find particular topic interesting. Either way, as much as i am certain there is no point in my typing, i could write down some things, just to set you straight, if you are looking to add to your knowledge, which honestly to me seems rather scarce. You are mixing up some major things, but the most outrageous thing is that period of events you're mixing is over a century. Again, my point was aimed towards the political state in Serbia and in Orthodox Church during the time of battle of Kosovo and afterwards, not at all at aftermath and what came half a century later. Vuk Brankovic proceeded to form an alliance with Venice, and join the "Crusade", if you can hope to call it that against Ottoman. It was indeed done with support of Hungarian king Sigismund. He joined the "Crusade" which was formed after battle of Rovine, where Marko, son of Vukasin Mrnjancevic (king before Lazar) and Konstantin Dragas (you mentioned someone of his kin) died fighting for Ottomans, and actually lost. The Crusade was finished by Battle of Nicopolis, in 1397, where Crusaders suffered horrendous defeat, and Vuk was indeed a participant, and he got captured and died not even a year later while imprisoned. Vuk's son Djuradj did indeed proceed to become a vassal to the Sultan, and his daughter would marry one of sultans, but that doesn't relate to the fact Vuk fought them until his dying breath. Also, another thing you're apparently ignoring is that Djuradj was not fully on Ottoman side, as he married his another daughter to Ulrich of Celje, a Hungarian nobleman and relative to the king. Another rather important thing you seem to ignore is that FOR THE ENTIRETY OF HIS REIGN, DJURADJ WAS BALANCING BETWEEN HUNGARIA AND OTTOMAN EMPIRE, and while he did on several occasions, when forced to, aid Ottoman conquests (like one to Constantinopole), they jumped on Hungarian side as soon as they had such opportunity. I have NO IDEA where did you get information about him not letting Skanderbeg help Hunyadi, as few years before the Battle of Belgrade and all the battles before it where Hunyadi won, he had very little influence, and was an ally to the new "Crusade", against the Ottomans and triumphed. He died just a year after the battle, at age 79. I wrote a fuckton, but let me go back to where i started. The whole idea was that both Vuk Brankovic and Lazar Hrebeljanovic were Serbian nobles who had great power and influence, both died fighting the Ottoman, both had successors who at some point were in vassal position to Ottomans, yet one is a great hero, while the other is great traitor, and that's just nonsense.
Joximm
Joximm 2 yıl önce
Pasanik Cerriku You should get your facts checked, friend, but i suppose it's difficult to do so when you're blinded by hate... Mara Brankovic did indeed marry Sultan... except she is daughter of Djuradj, Vuk's SON, making her Vuk's granddaughter, and she was BORN 20 years after Vuk's death. If there was some other Mara that married to some other Sultan, i would love to hear about that.

@Kings and Generals - Hey guys, thank you for covering the topic on the Battle of Kosovo. A few details here are debatable, though I would say on the subject of Vuk Branković that he can't outright be considered a traitor, as he never swore allegiance or switched sides over to the Ottomans. At best, one could consider him a deserter maybe, since he did indeed pull out of the battle ... however, he did continue to fight the Ottomans for years later until his eventual capture and death in an Ottoman prison. It may not have been an easy decision for him to make and see his brethren get slaughtered, though pulling out of the battle did preserve his forces to fight another day, and considering that it took the Ottomans another eighty years till they eventually conquered Belgrade, I believe Vuk's struggle contributed much to that as well. It may seem like a small footnote in history, but I'm sure you guys also know many instances were smaller details have greater impacts than people realize. The outcome of the battle itself, of course, was catastrophic, yet the fact that our ancestors managed to slow the Ottoman onslaught as much as they did with their sacrifice was a clinical moment in history, and definitely worthy of remembrance. Thanks again for covering the Battle of Kosovo! "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." - John 15:13

I have complaints. 1. The imperial government of the Serbian empire was very weak by 1371 and king Vukašin was just a minor lord who decleared himself king. 2. Serbian empire didn't collapse because of the battle of Maritsa, it collapsed because the emperor(Uroš V) died without an heir. 3. The Ottoman army at Pločnik was 20 000 troops. Not exactly small. 4. Lazar's alliance was muuuuuch smaller, Marko Mrnjavčević didn't join, Dragaš family didn't join(their territories were in Macedonia and Bulgaria), his son in law Balša didn't join(duke of Zeta, modern Montenegro). Only Vuk Branković, lord of Kosovo, and Tvrtko I, king of Bosnia joined him. 5. It's highly debatable wheather Branković left the battle or not, I don't think so, he was just used to blame the defeat on someone. 6. Lazar was captured and executed.

Who dared to betray a fucking Dracula, lol? Just kidding,I have much respect for a man,Serbian national hero from folk stories Marko Mrnjavcevic died in the battle of Rovine fighting as a turkish vassal against Vlad Tepes.May he rest in peace even though he fought for a wrong side,it was a very unfortunate time period.

kiril marinov We have great legacy in the Balkans, saying that we don't is just a plain disgusting lie from you. You should pay more attention to people leaving your legacy filled country to go to other, better EU countries, or legacy is gonna be the only thing left. And we have to do the same. And stop using some distant history to fuel your hate. I would give you Macedonia, but it's not mine to give, and Albanians would rebel, and Greeks maybe...

kiril marinov First off all Serbs frown upon our king that attacked you, he was an Austrian puppet later that dynasty was taken of power. I don't see Bulgarians frown upon attacking Serbia, but you justify it... I can also say your kings and tsars attacked Serbia and occupied and so on, in the middle ages and pre middle ages. And about First and Second Balkan war it is more complicated. First off all we helped you reach Constantinople, we helped you take over Yedrene (or whatever it's name is) even though that wasn't in the deal, and you on the other side didn't send the agreed number of troops to help us, and Austria sent us an ultimatum to stop getting our empire's pre ottoman lands. So it was decided that cause Bulgaria didn't honor the agreement we should take the lands our troops have taken from Ottomans. And in the Second Balkan war everybody was against Bulgaria (Bulgaria initiated the war), that shows what they thought about Bulgarian territorial claims at the time. Nonetheless, Serbs, again, think taking Macedonia was a mistake. And stop that bullshit about genocide and ethnical cleansing, where are your sources on that even? Some obscure sites? I can probably find what you did to Serbs during ocupation on English Wikipedia. All fcking countries committed genocides and ethnical cleansing from USA, UK, Belgium, Germany, Croatia, Turkey to Bulgaria and Serbia, some committed bigger, some lesser... And Belgrade was an old city, it was a roman city called Singidunum, and it existed even before that, so stop your bullshit... And here you talk about like I said only Bulgarian aggression, I said German, Austrian and Bulgarian aggression, and what is attacking a country if not an aggression? And for me stating that you went angry...

It's such a great job but I have a small note for you guys: Ottoman Empire had never been called or used the title of "emirate" like any other Turkic beyliks in Anatolia. Same for royal titles: Instead of royal titles coming from Arabic/Islamic culture (except Sultan), Ottomans had also used a mixture of Persian/Old Turkic titles like Padishah (Persian), Sehzade (Persian), Khan (Turkic).

Thanks a lot for the prompt reply :) You can check Korkut Ozgen: The Ottoman History or probably Jean Paul Roux must have mentioned that Sultans used various titles in addition to Sultan including: Hakan (Khakan in English written form) which means Khan of Khans, the highest royal title in Ancient Turks + Emir-ul-Muminun (Commander of Muslims) and Caliphate + and one more surprisingly Kayser-i Rum which means "Caeser of Rome" after Mehmed the Conqueror :) After the fall of Constantinople and even before, not only Ottomans but also other Turkic beyliks always are very fond of having brides from the Byzantine Royal Family because this way they thought that it'll justify them as the successors of Romans and give them the official right to rule as new Roman Empire in Asia Minor :) like Frederick III who called himself as Caeser of Rome. So it might be a strange/funny analogy to hear it from a Turk but our ancestors took the same strategy of Roose Bolton from Game of Thrones to have a certain legal claim on the lands which they had taken by blood :)) Again thanks a lot for your great videos, keep doing the great work !! P.S. : I always supported House Stark.

Thank you! :-) Allow me to copy my previous comment on the matter: You are obviously right, Turks usually used Beylik/Khanliq/Khanate/Sultanate. Problem is, mainstream history calls this period "emirate", which is technically wrong, but it is an accepted terminology. Don't we constantly call Ottoman Sultanate "Imparatorluk", despite the fact that they never called themselves Emperors?

An idea about why the cavalry charge to Ottoman left flank ceased and retreated, a phenomenon observed in situations (like happened to Armenaian heavy in Manzikert) and stands as a warning to heavy cavalry commanders NOT to chase the light cavalry even if enemy is giving you the ground (explains why Byzantine cataphract remained idle during entire battle of Yarmuk which looks totally foolish today) - Heavy cavalry with European horse after even a medium distance chase, may become extremely difficult to regroup. Heavy cavalry requires really a lot of time and skill to return to a wing, while light Ottoman cavalry can expand, retreat, and regroup into formation easily. A heavy cavalry commander who continues his move behind the enemy line deep into the light horse, risks to enter into a bag that he cannot retreat later, and if he wants to stay clear of such risk, must retreat, put a great distance between his units and the enemy, and do his best to gather his horse into a defensive formation way behind his own infantry line. Therefore, as the Europeans learned in later centuries, the presence of a crowded enemy light horse in battlefield, means that your heavy cavalry charge must NOT be conducted before being sure that it (preferably combined with infantry charge) effectively ends up with breaking the main enemy line (preferably infantry line included) so that you will have a broad field under your control where you can regroup your heavy horse back in formation. Any partial gain at this flank or other is invalid, unless it actually finishes the battle. It is a huge risk for Serbain right to return and flank the main Ottoman force without making sure Turkish light cavalry will not return to field and outflank their move, and even if they chase the light cavalry for no hope to engage them, while Turkish main line is still strong, it is huge risk for heavy cavalry try to regroup over there or continue the chase. Probably, when heavy horse started to lose pace, the cavalry commander wanted to pull back to a safe distance, knowing that any further move will not bring any further benefit. It does not have to be a "secret agreement with Turks" as there is neither an evidence, nor any rational motive for him to do so. It is very natural military issue. He did what he expected to do, and retreated to safety at the point he can't do anything better. Actually, in such a battle, against an enemy with superior light horse, if you open with a heavy cavalry charge, and cannot break the infantry in middle, it means you just wasted your move, and there is nothing else but retreat your tired horse.

Great video guys! However there is a mistake in this video - Serbian Tzar Lazar was canonised to saint by Serbian Orthodox Church, but Milos Obilic was not! In an orthodox church tradition one cannot be canonised to saint if he commited murder regardles if he killed an enemy or a friend. On the other hand Tzar Lazar took part in the battle of Kosovo and posilby killed someone but its hard to prove. The main reasons for canonisation of Tzar Lazar is because he was the commander of the Serbian army that resisted much stronger Ottoman empire and because he was captured alive and beheaded after the battle by an old islamic tradition that we can see even today in so-called "islamic state". Good job guys and best of luck! Greetings from Serbia!
