2:53 *"They all agreed to preach tolerance and forgiveness. A message so important its most ardent followers would eventually start killing anyone who didn't want to hear it."* Amazing observation LMAO
Lohikaarme2 aylar önce
@Paul Russell You are right, there are plenty of examples like that. Actually much more than most realize. The fact that other people do similarly, is not a good excuse. And the fact that Christ requires otherwise, makes things even worse for them doing so. However, the usual conclusion ("Christianity is wrong") is well, wrong. I am not saying you conclude that or does so the video, but that's the impression at least. My arguments: 1. We (people in general) misuse all the time values/thought systems/worldviews. Basically every value system that was influential enough was seriously misused during history. Misusage does not judge the value system itself, just the people misusing it. All the wrongs so often cited are things one cannot take to Christ's feet and expect recognition. Christianity is not about people, it's first of all about Christ, and one can follow him despite that so many don't. (We are very conscious of the principle above in a number of cases - e.g. the idea that working class should have a better etc. life is usually not disposed just because terrible dictatorships took it as their "moral" base. For some reason, this is seldom applied to Christianity. Seems to me like double standards.) 2. We tend to talk a lot about the wrongs of Christianity. Yet there is so much good that wee seem to avoid knowing. It might help to see that side too. (E.g. one could look at biographies like the one of Corrie ten Boom or the one of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and so many more. Some statistics can also be useful.) 3. The scotsmen: there are indeed more valid definitions of who is a Christian, some of them being 1. someone affirming that he/she is one 2. someone thinking that the teachings are true 3. same as 2 + seriously striving to live accordingly (none does perfectly, obviously). Of course #1 is easiest to find out, #3 has the most to do with the core of it. It seems to me that the ones "start killing anyone who didn't want to hear it" are not the ones who are really keen to follow Christ ("its most ardent followers"), but the ones that take the liberty to not really follow him. Worth thinking through. 4. Surprisingly, the fact many Christians do so much wrong does not deny Christianity but affirms it. It just fits the picture that all of us have really, really serious issues. (See e.g. Paul's letter to the Romans 7, 17-24) And that is one of the a central observations of Christianity. One that we don't like to recognize though.
